Gor Mahia vs City stars on Saturday

Gor Mahia will play Nairobi City Stars this Saturday at the City Stadium from 4pm in a bid to help raise funds for their Confederations Cup budget which is estimated at 60 Million Kenya shillings. Apart from raising funds for the club’s budget, the match will also help the technical bench gauge the team and the new signings on how they blend in with the other team members ahead of the busy season ahead.

“We want to help raise funds for our Continental duties whose budget is approximated at 60 Million shillings. We will put a gate charge on the match and the proceeds we get from this will help in stepping down the budget”, Bwana told Michezoafrika.com

City Stars has been a thorn in the flesh for Gor Mahia in the recent past and according to Bwana, the match will be very important to gauge their level of preparedness. Former City Stars coach Ken Odhiambo’ is the current Gor Mahia assistant coach while on the other side of the bench coach Gideon Ochieng was at one point in charge of the Green Side.

Gor Mahia are set to play Mozambique’s Forroviaro in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup on the 18th of February as they seek to stamp their lost glory on the continental scene.

This is just a friendly not an official match. So they can field “Oga” and “Otieno” who has not signed either. For that matter they can use this to see how much value Jerry Santos adds to the team.

I am skeptical about this star studded Kogallo. It reminds me of mid 90’s team comprising of Frazier Ochieng, Otamax, Okatch biggy, Ogada dunga, Odiaga Brigadier etc. Too much was expected from them but ended up disappointing. I just pray and hope that will not be the case. All the same, I wish them the very best of luck, but I dont expect too much from this squad. For God and my club Kogallo

  • Just as much as we are saying that the star-studded team might not deliver I also remember the team of ’87 with all it’s stars giving us the only continental trophy these sides of Africa. Whoever watched Sofapaka last year in the CAF cup will agree that their experience helped them go that far. Let’s give the team the benefit of doubt and do what we do best and that is to support them. With all these stars the onus is now on the coach to bring out the best in them, both in terms of team work and also personal performance

LET US MATURE WITH THE TEAM DURING THE 2012 SEASON

@ 5 Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch Kampala) stop being so yesterday and pessimistic with your past reference as regards the current k’galo players. Just play your role as number 12th player and let the technical bench prove their worth on the pitch. You guys at times you sound very interesting and funny; we are yet taste the team and here you are crying foul like cry babies.

It goes on notice that previously, we have highlighted our expectations from the Executive Committee. May I take this privilege to highlight what our club admin under the charismatic leadership of Wakili Ambrose Rachier, David Kilo, George Bwana and other EC members that should be pursued for our club to move to a higher level.

@10 kONGONDA DALA please can you for once realize that this blog is not “RAMOGI FM” where you communicate in your mother tongue without noticing that we have people from all walks of life supporting K’galo as die hard fanatics. I doubt if you are not a fresh blogger down from the village.

@11 jakojera 9 Stop glorifying the past like one @ Albert Kosero and sounding defeated yet we have not show-cased our current talent both locally and continentally for you guys to justify the teams under-achievement.

  • There is no problem in having a star studded squad. Barca is star studded. All great teams have been. The only issues which make some teams fail is big egos and selfishness. Fan favorites grow Big Egos and make it so difficult for coaches to bench even when off form. We can only hope that Awono will be able to stamp his authority and make his selection from all the players based on performance.

Kenyan soccer will only get back to its right place through Gor Mahia and AFC. People always wonder what became of Kenyan soccer but they fail to look at what was happening at Gor and AFC. It is only by playing for these two teams that a player plays for pride too and feels the pressure to perform. The heart of the national team must be made in these two clubs for success.

I see a fruitful 2012 for Kogalo. Let’s meet at City Stadium.

It will take time for these players to get used to each other, build cohesion and realize their full potential. But they can start winning immediately. This team is strong by Kenyan standards. But when compared to teams in the CAF cup they are average. This friendly is a good way to start developing systems of play. Let the fans turn out in large numbers, cheer the Naija boy and crack @ #10 Kongoda’s head even more.

@10 Kongoda Dala, what happens if the Nigerian is signed and he turns out to be a big hit? Will you change your allegiance to Gor Mahia or shall you be forced to eat humble pie?

As to whether you are a blogger straight from the village, that I may not know: what I know for sure is that the world has become a global village hence we are all villagers.
Secondly, football is a universal language and whether a goal is scored by Daddy Omondi or Baldwin Ngwa or the Nigerian it still remains a goal for Gor Mahia- our goal, our win!

@8 and @12 Ogango Trailer, happy new year and welcome back to the blog! There is nothing wrong with Jakojera and Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch Kampala)reminiscing about the past and our past heroes: every successful and progressive human draws inspiration from the past. When history is made it becomes a point for future reference and nothing is wrong with that, sir.

And lets also give financial support by attending fund raisings and donating generously. Avoid trying to get in to match venues free of charge especially our home matches. Let us not be mere lip supporters.

To the office, what happened to membership drives? This could be a major source of funding. You see now we have the players, we will want them to perform and you know the expectation at Kogalo is way above the rest; the difficult part is how to pay them in order to keep them.

Lastly with expectations so high lets also learn to be patient and be ready to take loses in our stride.Matches can be won or lost and thats the beauty of sports, it is NOT and CANNOT, SHOULD NOT be war.The bottom line is YOU CANNOT WIN ALL THE TIME.

@Creative Village, you said the truth. Kenya soccer will revolve around Gor and AFC. When AFC were in the lower league and Gor not performing so well, you saw the stadia were empty; and the National team rating went low and is yet to recover. As ever, Gor work hard not only to beat AFC but also finish the league ahead of them, AFC does the same. I remember when it was rumoured Allan Thigo always strategised with Kisumu Posta on how to beat AFC, and AFC worked with Nzoia amd Kakamega Ministry of Woks (Later MOTCOM) to ensure they beat Gor. This way, those ‘lesser’ teams also benefitted from tips given and therefore improved their skills. So every team upped their skills. I want to see the rivalry between Gor and AFC revisted but no stones to the stadium please. Sisi ni Vakhwasi (mashemeji) kali sana. After I test missiles from Russian side of Gor, it is Atieno at home to make Ugaki na ngege; if I am injured she has the task of nursing me.
