Gor Mahia vs Power Dynamos preview

Gor Mahia are still scheduled to play against Zambian side Power Dynamos on Sunday. This despite some media reports that the match was being rescheduled. The match will be played on Sunday starting at 4 pm at Nyayo stadium. The choice of Nyayo makes sense given that Gor Mahia will play CNAPs of Madagascar at Nyayo.

Gor Mahia have learned the hard way. Rather than play easy friendlies against teams like Supa Loaf as they did last season, Gor Mahia have decided to sharpen themselves against higher quality friendlies as coach Frank Nuttall continues to work towards gaining a measure of cohesion.

Skipper Jerim Onyango was upbeat about the friendly

“I would like to thank the management for organizing such a high profile friendly match. We need more of such games to ensure we prepare fully for the CAF Champions League and other competitions ahead of the new season.

The match against Dynamos will tell us how much prepared we are ahead of the new season. To be the best you have to gauge yourself against the best teams in the continent” he said. to futaa.com

And Power Dynamos will indeed provide Gor Mahia with a challenge. In 2014, they came within two points of winning the Zambian league, losing narrowly to Zesco. For the CAF competition, they have maintained most of their 2014 squad and added players from arch rivals Nkana FC: Defender Masautso Zimba, midfieder Claude Bwalya and 2nd choice goal keeper Charles Mweemba. They have two players who featured for Zambia in the 2015 Africa nations cup: Chris Munthali and Joshua Titima though the duo will likely not travel.

Gor Mahia have yet to impress in 2015 but coach Frank Nuttall appears positive with the progress the club is making with the exception of the attack.

Loss of Brian Umony

Coach Nuttall lamented the fact that Gor Mahia were not able to sign Ugandan striker Brian Umony.

“Umony is one player I wanted to bring in. But unfortunately it was not to be,” said Nuttall, adding, “I knew Danny (Sserunkuma) was going to leave, he had intimated to me and I believe Umony was going to be the perfect replacement. But I am told it was difficult getting him.” said Nuttall to Supersport.com

Both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards pursued Umony but his demands were too high.

Previous Encounters vs Zambian sides

Despite the extensive record Gor Mahia has in CAF and CECAFA competitions, matches between Gor Mahia and Zambian sides are few and far between. In 1977, Gor Mahia lost 4-5 on aggregate to Zambian representatives Mufulira Wanderers in the second of the Africa cup. In 1981, Gor Mahia beat Kabwe Warriors 2-1 in a CECAFA cup match played in Kisumu. And in 1986, Gor mahia outplayed Mufulira Wanderers  but still lost 0-1 at the CECAFA cup in Mwanza Tanzania.

According to the club site, charges for the main stand will be Ksh 500 while charges for the terraces will be Ksh 200.

Mambo ya testing combinations, formations, gelling and fitness levels are the preserve of daily training.
TB / players have 24 hours every day & each day every week to thoroughly go the paces.
Friendlies such as these are serious dress rehersals and we expect GMFC to put up a good show not neccesssarilly win but put up a good show.
    All the best K’galo.
2015 TPL tick , Top 8 tick, GorTv at least the semis knock out tourneys are unpredictable, CECAFA possibly a semi & more, CAF hii ni ngumu.

If only it was that easy. Sometimes it takes several months before players learn to play with each other. Last season, Sserunkuma and Blackbery only started to play well together around July or August.
And remember, some players shine during training but they simply cannot play well under pressure when the crowd is shouting at them. You cannot simulate the effect of 10,000 angry fans shouting at a player during training. You will only find out during a game like this one.
This is the first big test where Nuttall will find out who can produce under pressure and who cannot

Hallow bloggers, I think we r doomed. Nyamweya has just decided to kill our league that we’ve tried to build for several yrs. He is cheating us that he is bringing a sponsor which nobody knows & cannot help the players to find lucrative deals. What shud we do.shud we just keep quiet & see kpl dying. If we do not do something then we shall not have anything gud as kpl from nyamweya

  • Sure we are in a dilemma how can nyamweya pupport that he can run the league I am shocked beyond words Kenya never moves fowArd let the kpl clubs minus s habana run. A parralel league some teams like sofa paka,Tusker , thika, bandari, have sponsors who are eyeing the greater African market the government should ban FKF

It’s unfortunate that when KPL cannot even determine the winner of the Nationwide Group B winner they want to run a league that KPL has managed to make the third best in Africa. With their vested intersts how will they run this high-tension league.
I remember when Hon RAO and Balala lobbied FIFA and set our soccer back on track. Can’t the CS do the same noting that even FIFA is not very comfortable with FKF despite this being the year of elections.
Why is FKF reluctant to mention this sponsor they are talking about and which broadcaster do they have in mind to show and market our game in Africa and world-over as Supersport is doing?
Which corporate sponsor will associate with this team whose members are not trusted?

Is the game still on Sunday or has it been pushed to a later date because Dynamos are arriving late(Sunday) and cannot play the same day(as reported in the Star article).
