Gor Mahia vs SoNy to be replayed

The match pitting Gor Mahia against SoNy will be replayed at a later date. According to futaa.com the KPL reviewed  all the reports from the match, and ruled that the match be replayed.

We have looked at both reports- the referee’s and match commissar’s- and we have also considered the fact that no team has been blamed for the stoppage, the KPL CEO Jack Oguda told Futaa.com.

As confirmed by Oguda, SoNy could not be held accountable for the security breach, as they had put in place acceptable security measures before the match.

-The match was almost ending with no issue. When the crowd invaded the pitch, we had to give preference to the security of the officials and players, Oguda further told futaa.com

Refereee Speaks out

Referee Nasur Doka who officiated the match has broken his silence over whether the goal was genuine

“The ball hit the cross bar and my assistant (Leonard Oyiengo) said it had crossed the line. It was a goal and that’s the conclusion we arrived at”

“As a centre referee the most reputable person I can rely on is my assistant because he is best placed to make the call” He told michezoafrika.com

“The stadium was packed with over 10,000 fans and after that they invaded the pitch and the perimeter fence down, there was no way we could continue the match though both sides were in agreement to have it resume. We did it on security grounds”.

SoNy have been adamant that the ball never crossed the line and only a case of poor officiating allowed Gor Mahia to equalize.

Update

KPL have now sent a communique which indicates that the match will be played at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Wednesday September 18, 2013 starting at 3:00pm and that KPL will take control of the match. KPL have also exonerated both teams from responsibility.

At least now Zico has a chance to vindicate himself. I wonder who will be the home team in this case and how they will handle the security better than they did before. This is the second chance to pull away from Ingwe and the rest of the teams

Its all about milking GM fans.
    Will this cow ever refuse?
EC has just undertaken in writing 2 pay SSMB 2M 4 the Kasarani chaos where GM was again the away team.
In Kasarani only chairs were at risk but players were safe. In Awendo where there r no chairs, players were @ risk yet 2 KPL Sony provided adequate security!
    Thats pure B.S
EC don’t agree 2 the replay no matter the consequences, have a backbone 4 once like Gladys Boss Shollei.

############just knew it from the begining where there is oguda and the march commissioner the otieno guy .nothing good coud come our way,but the people who were at awendo witnessed what happened,if it could be proper ruling first and foremost before replay kasaya could be suspended from active football for his pathetic behaviour.secondly who is the home team and would there be gate charges?thirdly who will cater for the gor mahia expenses eg players and the technical bench allowances, bus fuel and the rest..my proposal is if it is areplay no cash should be paid at the gate because we paid entrance fee at awendo unless the likes of oguda want to milk us.

    To Gor players:-

The die is cast.a rematch is now in the offing.its only a question of when and where it will be played.my advise is-do not let Sundays events get into your heads.undertake a progress report for match you played in Awendo and identify and rectify areas of weakness esp defence and striking depts.

You are well aware of the task ahead-To deliver a league trophy this season.these sidedhows can divert our attention. As fans we can say anything but as players you should talk less and do more on the pitch-i have no doubt whatsoever that YOU .To Sony Club:

He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day.Be prepared. We r more wounded and stronger than you thought.whether we play in Awendo ,Msa,Nakuru or even Nrb we will come out guns blazing!!!!Over to you KPL to give the date and venue of next match against Sony!!!!!

if the match is to be replayed, the gate collection should be shared. Or all those who paid to attend this ill fated match should be allowed to go in free.

Secondly, FKL or the referee should refund Gor the expenses for the players etc.

I see workings and formulas intended to deny us the league. Remember when Nyamweya saw that Gor could possibly emerge as winners in 2012 he shifted the improved league winners prize money to start this year.

Kora wamenyo prize money to gigi ochako.

The ruling is biased as per justice based on rules. But the people who invaded the pitch should also learn that at a serious level SoNY could have lost all the points for pitch invasion as it could have been construed their fans caused the abandonment. I wish all our people would get to understand the importance of keeping off playing grass.

The match will be played at Afraha and KPL will be the hosts. This is what I refered to as Solomonic ruling. No one is descriminated against though we need to curb hooliganism by players, officials and fans as witnessed at Awendo

A pertinent question is raised by some bloggers that needs an answer!
Who will refund GM the expenses 4 the ill fated Sony match in Awendo?
Like SSMB our EC should follow suit & make out an invoice of 2.8M 2 KPL.
2ndly GM should demand a 1M bond as a surety for the safety of our players/property e.g bus frm KPL.
There is also no reason 2 replay the whole game but JUST complete the remaining 4mins.
Why should our players b forced 2 play 33 matches in a 32 game league?
I agree with Kosero on this.

@7 Oluoch i concure with you, if the rules were to be followed then Kasaya was supposed to be red carded on that day then banned from local and international foot ball for a given period of time. Gor deserved to be awarded the match.

Yes, not only are we behind in the league but also in the GoTv Cup.
There’s deliberate fixture congestion against GM by KPL/FKF.
We are being fixed and later we’ll be told ACCEPT & MOVE ON!
Also since EC blundering over the Kasarani debacle it seems that the club is now being held accountable for the misdeeds of anyone wearing a GM jersey. A pandora’s box has been opened.
Why is our EC so desperate that it accepts decisions that r against agreed rules more so when they r detrimental 2 GM.

@dan what do you mean by telling us that kpl is the host?those are errors of futaa.com ,with us what we know sony is the home team and entrance is free because after all i could not carry my ticket from awendo to nairobi we had paid for the game final.it is only the venue and the day that has been altered everything is in hand of sony even my security as afun.to our players this is asecond chance that we have been given,it is always rare in the game of football,i have only seen it in kenya lets go there guns blazing and get all the three points forget about the past.what we have to know is that there is no tactics that zico will use against gor mahia apart from parking the bus and killing us in counter attacks.the zico guy is very bitter ever since he was chased away from gor mahia so it wont be very easy ,the guy know how to play defensive game so let us forget the zicos/kasayas stupidity and disaprove them in the pitch.but the issue of telling us that kpl is the host mr dan hiyo ni yako the host is always one and idont remember any team called kpl.

the only thing gor mahia has going against it are it’s fans and past player behaviour. if you punish kasaya they will ask why not punish gor for their fans invasion of the pitch. it does not matter that gor was the away team. gor is paying 2.5 mil for kasarani on an away game fine. gor ec giving excuses that the security lies with the away team is not an excuse for it’s fans to misbehave.
    – gor should forget what happened and look at this as an opportunity to recover two points that could have been lost.
    – gor players should look at this as a character builder coz sony will come back even more ‘stupid’ than before. this is why i advocate for foreign coaches. the coach should now prepare the boys mentally. what sony is doing is what gor will be facing when they play around africa so they should look at this as a lesson on hostile hosts.
    – gor EC should wake and start educating it’s wayward fans.
    – kpl should reprimand these WEAK kenyan reffs who basically have no guts to make any decisions. unfortunately with ppl like ogada around this is hard. gor players do not escape blame coz all have seen Jerry’s and kiongera’s behaviour when they drew their match, after a rival team scored from what Jerry believes was an offside. the goal stood but what jerry was doing at city stadium is basically what kisaya was doing in awendo. kpl should enact laws that make sure that touching the ref gets one an automatic yellow card .
so as match as gor fans might say it deserved the match, gor players in such situations in the past vindicate sony’s behaviour… for the simple reason that in africa and more so in kenya TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT.

  • I wasn’t in Awendo so I dont have the facts. But given that KPL concluded that no team caused the abandonment of the match and they also side with zico’s version that his players were willing to continue with play. To me its right to assume that Sony accepted the goal. So the match need to be finished not replayed.

  • The problem with bloggers here is that they are always complaining the ruling was fair guys you dont expect Gor to be given three points….they are leading with 6 points and Sony will be relegated if they lose the three points,it was Solomonic justice.
About anything else its the bad reputation of Gor GOONS who some of you defend to the hilt. And Oduor @12 is lamenting about the perception on a Kogalo shirt wearer not prestigious …those are the consequences of a bad reputation .

  • I usually read all the comments by other bloggers before posting my own. It is fair to state tht a variety of issues have been raised and address by the various bloggers. Whether adequately and conclusively or not is for you to judge. On the ruling by KPL ordering for a Replay, I want to posit as follows-
    1. KPL must be called to account for their rules governing abandoned matches. Because you find neither party guilty of causing the abandonment, why then are you proceeding with a Separate disciplinary action against an unnamed SONY official and player??? If whtever they are being disciplined for is related to this particular match, then I urge KPL to use these same reasons to find them guilty of causing the abandonment and award this match to GM. Its clear KPL that the SONY official and Player had a hand in causing the abandonment of the match, otherwise why are they being disciplined if they are not guilty!!
2.(i) There had been three goals scored in this match prior to the 4th one and I believe the fans on both sides must have celebrated each team’s goals without bringing the perimeter wall down!! So what Was so special about this 4th goal? Tht the fans from both side should celebrate it to the point of crushing the perimeter wall and running into the pitch? We have been told tht both sets of fans stormed the pitch immediately the 4th goal was scored!! Really, can this be true? Wht about the referee admitting that he gave the “goal” as a genuine goal after consultation with the assistant referee!!! Moreover this is wht the law requires him to do if in doubt. So he did well up to this point. But both the match commissioner and the referee need to tell us why Gor Mahia fans would storm the pitch just after their team has scored an equaliser instead of celebrating on the stands!!! How and why!!. Wouldn’t it be right to say tht as SONY players were disputing the goal scored by GM, its their fans who Stormed the pitch to “help” them protest!!! This requires very minimal intelligence to deduce Mr Oguda. So stop covering up for your incompetent and compromised officials by ordering for a replay. Àll logical facts and conclusions points to a strong SONY FC protest hence they should forfeit the match and Gor be awarded the points on the basis of 2 goals and 3 points. Bite the bullet now Mr Oguda and do the right thing. Your diplomatic way of choosing the lesser evil of ordering for a replay is not anchored in any law governing our football. Trying to appeal to the conscience of the 6 or 7 teams fighting with GM for the championship will not wash Mr Oguda. If you don’t award this match to Gor Mahia, you will lose the little remaining moral authority and credibility tht you still have to run our football affairs. You must always demand for proper, truthful and correct reporting by both the match commissioners and referees. Especially on the very sensitive matters of officiation and abandonments.

(ii) Fans are equally important for the growth of our football and if in doubt, ask the Egyptian Football Federation how it feels to play in empty stadiums.
So for a match commissioner and a referee to give false information about the fans is quite disheartening. Why didn’t you ask for video evidence of wht happened from any of the many fans tht thronged the Awendo Green Stadium? Yes, the fans may have misbehaved in the past but they should never be used as a scapegoat to wash out the misdeeds of others. All and Sundry, present in the stadium on the fateful Sunday, watched in awe as SONY players and their officials cajoled, pushed, threatened and even slapped the match officials for allowing the 2nd GM goal scored by Owino. How then does a match official turn around to give a seriously doctored and misleading report absolving SONY players and officials from the blame of causing abandonment!!! What about a KPL office, so inept and gullible that they swallow hook and sinker such reports without reprimanding their match officials!!!! Mr Oguda, your company is heavily funded and its a high time you invested in modern training methods for your officers. With a parent body like KPL would you begrudge our football for being off the map internationally? Its the Same KPL office which recently allowed clubs to field visibly over aged players in an underage tournament! FLASH BACK-: How old is Mariga and Mugubi anyway? Mugubi joined World Hope FC now City Stars straight from 4th Form in 2006. We assume he was 18 then. So 7 years later how old should he be? 22 years old as we are told or 25? Your guess is as good as mine. This is not a personal vendetta on anyone but just an article to point out the rot in the organisations running our football. Do you know tht the Kenya under 17 football team was banned from football activities in 2003 for age cheating? Do you know tht one Mariga was one of the over-aged players then and he was also the captain of that team. Honourable Najib Balala the then Minister for sports disbanded the team following complaints from Ghana U 17 and FIFA. So if Mariga was 18 years old then (2003) how old should he be now, 24 years as we are told or 28! No wonder the endless injuries. And you want to grow our football!! How, by helping our sports men and women cheat! No wonder our referees, assistant. referees and match commissioners rarely features in major tournaments like FIFA world Cup And Africa Cup of Nations. KPL, together with the equally yoked, discredited and moribund FKF led by Nyamweya and his group, will only succeed in stagnating the growth of our football. Our National team’s achievements in 2012-2013 is 3 Draws and 2 loses in a World Cup qualification Group of Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria and Kenya. I rest my case.

  • Can Gor Mahia players use this chance to get the three points? Indeed the ruling is a shame indeed, a sham, a facade, however, can we kindly advise our “boys” to reap the maximum points and at the end leave Oguda & co wishing they had not ordered a replay?!
I just cannot comprehend why Gor always come close but yet so far from winning the title! The threat has tripled in the form of Sofapaka, Tusker & Ulinzi, and the pressure is now even more. . . . . .can the “boys” be talked to?!
