Gor Mahia vs Tusker in crucial encounter

Will Gor Mahia celebrate on Sunday?

New Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall could not have asked for a more difficult in which to make his local debut. On Sunday Gor Mahia take on Tusker, in a top of the table clash at Kasarani.

Tusker has been a tough nut to crack of late. It was Tusker who eliminated Gor Mahia from the KPL top 8. The first leg encounter between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw. And in 2013, it was Tusker who almost derailed Gor Mahia’s match to the title when they beat them 1-0. You might have to go back as far as 2012 to find the last time Gor Mahia beat Tusker.

And Tusker coach Francis Kimanzi is promising Gor Mahia another torrid afternoon.

“It will be a tough game and we are promising them a real battle which we are ready for. Being a match that involves the leading pack, fans should expect to be entertained as both sets of players will give their best on the pitch,” said Kimanzi to goal.com

But coach Nuttall is unperturbed. He says he cant wait to lead his charges against Tusker.

“I’m really excited and cannot wait for my first league match. I know it is going to be a difficult match on Sunday because Tusker also want the title,” said Nuttall to the Nation.

Nuttall is using the 3-0 loss to Simba as a teaching moment for the players.

“The friendly was an eye opener. At least it gave me a good view of the squad I have in the team and the areas that I need to improve on. Generally, we have quality players who I do believe can win the league for us,” continued Nuttall.

A win for Gor Mahia will put Gor Mahia firmly in the driving seat. A draw keep the status quo over Tusker, whereas a loss will be disastrous as it will mean Tusker is now technically ahead of Gor Mahia. Coach Nuttall knows how crucial this match is.

“Gor Mahia has very talented boys. It is for me to ensure they turn that talent into success. Sunday’s match is very crucial because we are up against one of our biggest rivals so it is quite important that we give our best,” he said.

Gor Mahia will also be looking for a positive start to their stretch of 4 matches in 10 days. On the positive side, Gor Mahia had 7 days in which to rest, work on fitness and fix the issues that were exposed by Simba last weekend. Gor Mahia fans will be hoping for their first big win since June. During the past few months, they have lost to AFC and drawn with them, finished last in their group in CECAFA, been eliminated from the GoTV shield and lost to Simba.

One player Gor Mahia used to count on to beat Tusker is George Odhiambo “Blackberry”. Who can forget the goal he scored in 2010 when he dribbled past three Tusker defenders then fired with his left foot. The ball ricochetted of Tusker defender Shikokoti before sailing into the net.  If Blackberry could rediscover his old form, Tusker would be in trouble. On Sunday however, Gor Mahia are more likely to depend on Sserunkuma, the leagues top scorer and Timothy Otieno for goals.

Together we shall overcome, our second leg encounter with Tusker has not been very impressive.all the time we have laboured and remained exposed.my piece of advice,go into this encounter with a positive attitude and tighten our midfield and defense-only then can we lock out Monday,Osumba,Aucho and others from feeding dangerous wingers like Were and Omunuk.you will emerge victorious.we will be there to give the much needed support.

Tusker are good physically and quick, they have an advantage over us.They also have tall strikers who are good at aerial balls.

@Ingo, thanks for telling him!! Some people are capable of telling their neighbours how bad or average their wives are. They can even tell the world how hopeless their children are.

  • It is about testing Frank if he can reverse the 3-0 loss to a 1-0 win against tusker. If he does that then I will be sure that he can go all the way to win against the big teams in the league. If he wins on sunday it will give players much needed confidence to go on & beat the likes of sofapaka ,chemelil KRA ,ulinzi & other small teams. But if they loose or draw then the probability of loosing the next match will be higher than winning.
I do wish u Frank the very best in ua debut on Kenyan league.

Michael Odhiambo Ogolo you are free to rate a coach but pinning him down in that manner in his first match? isn’t that a bit unfair? Lets not put the coach under pressure so soon

tusker game is mutually exclusive of the other games, and you cannot use the game as a basis of probability of winning or losing the next game. In KPL each game is unique and requires different approach and luck.
The team just need to be confident and give all they have to, after all we win and lose some, go out there and have fun guys. If you give us a win, accolade! If you draw fair, and if you lose- get over it fast and focus on the next task.

    Long Live Kogalo

gor has good players but are generally weak minded. most have no ambition and think that by playing to the crowd they will easily make to pro ranks. players like sserenkuma seem to be falling to this trap. goals that he could put away have ended up being wasted coz he thinks he can do a ronaldo. many times he fails to pass the ball when a teammate is on clear. the coach shud think of giving these guys confidence more than anything. the match between zambia and cape verde shows what ppl playing with a purpose can to even to so called giant teams. if gor loses this match it simply will be as a result of panick. the last two matches have clearly showed that the gor players have no confidence while playing tusker hence tend to play to the crowd more than against their opponents. playing to the crowd only means that you use the crowd to protect against ‘biased decisions’ hence the reason why many teams would prefer not to meet gor at city stadium where intimidation has been the order of the day. so more teams have discovered that gor on a neutral ground is simply an ordinary team.

I can only wish you GOOD LUCK pals, we have ten hectic days which will determine whether we retain the cup or loose everything this season. Frank and players should be made aware of this. The fans I believe are aware. Let’s support, support, support nothing but support.

  • I insist that the match btwn Gor & tusker will determine how tactful Frank Nuttal is after loosing 3-0 to Simba. If he wins he will improve from the match but if he looses then he will think that what he taught has not worked & he will want to start afresh to try another method. To win league u must beat the big teams which are tusker, sofapaka, ulinzi, chemelil & also KRA.

@Ingo, things are bad from your end. Results are not forthcoming and you are yet to play Chemelil and SONY at Kisumu. I pray that you break into the TOp 8 as we wouldn’t want you guys to be lumped together with City stars and Top Fry.
We are also praying that our team navigates these tough and congested fixtures ahead

Ooh Laa la..!! GOOD MORNING GOR MAHIANS…. AMUKENI KUME KUCHA..,,!!!

The focus is on K’Ogalo and it can not be any better than the current congested fixtures that have the bearing to win the championship in style. Where as most teams will be aiming at scooping all the points against us, little do they know that they are forgetting about facing the same opposition.

Am happy that Walu Walu and Baba Kizito (Gor) are back rejuvenated after the cranes successful campaign in the AFCON qualifier matches. Gattuso also have some scores to settle with KIMANZI which is a plus for the cracker. This match will showcase the best KPL teams in the midfield battle which is eminent as well as rocky defensive display and not forgetting the marauding forward lines with prolific and precision driven triking force.

I call upon the 12th man both from within and without this blog site to stand up and be counted. The new kid in the block TIMOTHY OTIENO needs us badly to rise to the occasion and do wonders. All in all TUSKER stands tall in front of us but GOD can do wonders the same way we had the DAVID Vs GOLIATH story. I REST MY CASE….!!!!

Over to you @Apostle MWAKIO and @ The Barefoot Bandit , please say a word of prayer
for bloggers to respond with a resounding AMEN in anticipation of today’s victory.

    AMINA,
Under the circumstances if F.N pulls off a win against “brewkenge” and even takes the league then he’s an exceptional coach. I wish him the best.
The other matter will be the style of play an entertaining one will bring back the fans even if results are not immediate.
This match & others are a litmus test.
