Gor Mahia to face New Star Douala in playoff

Gor Mahia have a chance put aside the disappointment of not making the champions league group face. They will play New Star Douala of Cameroon in the playoffs to determine who will qualify for the group stage of the 2018-2019 CAF Confederations cup.

The Cameroonian side eliminated Vital O of Burundi 4-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round. In the first round they eliminated Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya on away goals (1-1 and 0-0). They are currently fourth in the Cameroonian league with 49 points which is a good 20 points behind league leaders Cotonsport.

Gor Mahia will host the first leg which will be played during the weekend of January 11. The return leg will be a week later.

Let Zico manage the return leg….we definitely need a 1-0 specialist at this level of competition

Ladies and gentlemen, this New Star Doula is not a big name in African football and Kogalo should go through with proper preparation. They drew 0:0 in Cameroon against Vital O of Burundi in the first leg of their preliminary match and won the return leg 4:1 in Burundi. This big loss may be attributed to overconfidence in the Vital’ O camp after pulling out a draw in Cameroon. In the first leg of their round one match, they started away in Libya and again drew 1:1 against Al Ahly Tripoli of Libya. They followed this with a 0:0 draw in the return leg played in Cameroon and thus qualified on away goal rule. The crystal ball is very clear: this team is beatable as compared to the giants of African football that we have missed. Think of Asante Kotoko of Ghana, Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa, Petrol Athletic of Angola, Rangers of Nigeria or even Hassania Agadir of Morocco. We have dodged some bullets my people. Let us prepare well and we will be in the group stage.

Underrate this Cameroon team at your own peril.Even Lobi stars was beatable but eliminated us due to our psychological unpreparedness and overrating average players who lack quality and fighting spirit.

Actually I was very tense before the draw but it appears that the God of African football is still smiling at us inspite of what Odhis Muga thinks. Think of all the big guns we evaded in this draw, I think we have landed fairly softly

I have looked at the Cameroon 2018 league standings. This team ranked No.4.In Africa, Cameroon is one of the highest FIFA ranked countries, quite above Kenya. Therefore, this is a good team.

In summary, any team can be beaten but since last year, we have lost 2 matches we would have won due to overconfidence. We were beaten in Kenya by Rayon Sports last year and away in Nigeria by Lobi stars due to overconfidence. Football is won on the pitch, moving forward, let us not try to underrate any team or delude ourselves with unnecessary overconfidence. I rest my case.

JUST BREAKING….last evening, St George’s made a six figure offer for the services of Humphrey mieno. The player is currently weighing his options……..more to follow !

    • Mieno take the offer if it comes, Gor policy is to enhance development of players, given your age I think 6 figure us a good opportunity

I am negotiating a deal for Dennis Odhiambo of Sofapaka who i have wished to see in GM colours as our central midfield is weak. Muguna will replace slow Mieno very well if he leaves so those are not news to me. Our weakest link has been that midfield pairing of Mieno and Wendo..He has one year so yhey pay up and take him we buy Dennis N’golo Kante

Le Pastre, from your analysis above, it seems the team that you rate as not so good has a penchant for scoring away goals. That’s a dangerous team if you ask me.
