GoTV Shield: Gor Mahia take on Shabana

Gor Mahia will resume their GoTV shield campaign against Shabana of Kisii at the Nyayo stadium on Wednesday September 11. Gor Mahia will be defending the title they won in 2011 and 2012 when it was known as the Presidents cup.

Shabana who play in the FKF division 1 zone B are not expected to upset Gor Mahia. Had this been say 1989, there would be a significant amount of trepidation amongst Gor Mahia fans. Shabana was formed in 1980 by Kisii based businessman Dogo Khan. They were promoted to the top tier in the mid 1980s and immediately became one of the top teams. In 1987 they finished 3rd in the league and represented in Kenya in the Africa champions cup. Many of Kenya’s best players in the 1980s started their careers at Shabana; Henry Motego, Henry Nyandoro and of course Mike Okoth Origi, the first Kenyan ever to play for a top tier European team. In addition, back then, Shabana boasted a number of Tanzanians who had defected to Kenya;  Their home field in Gusii was a true fortress with many teams dreading to play there. The crowd was intimidating and visiting players were often threatened. At one time, KFF barred the stadium due to lack of safety for away players.

Shabana was disbanded in 2006 and are only now trying to reclaim  their old glory. They will be hard pressed to beat Kogalo.  But Shabana Coach Rashid Omar has said his players will not be intimidated by the big club syndrome when they face Gor Mahia.

“We have been waiting for this match long enough since 25th August when it was initially meant to be played. Gor is a big club but we shall go there to enjoy our game.” he told michezoafrika.com.

Gor Mahia cannot afford to take Shabana for granted. They will be determined to put themselves back on the map and will thus be a tough but to crack.

But Gor Mahia will be buoyed by the recent form of David Owino and the return of winger Innocent Mutiso. The latter is back in full capacity after he underwent a successful minor surgery to remove a metallic device implanted in his left thumb. Mutiso who has been enjoying electric form at Gor Mahia had been playing with the metallic support in his thumb for the past four years.

“I feel much better now and I have started training after it was removed last week. The metallic device had been displaced during our match against Tusker and I was feeling very uncomfortable during training and matches but I am glad it is now out and I am recovering well.” He told michezoafrika.

The winner of this match will play Thika United next.

Gor 3 Shabana 0 and then Shabana lets out a yell: “Ayaaayayayaaa you sl..beat me Gor, Gor you sl..beat me? The only thing I have never tasted are three clean ones like these. I will never joke with you again, now we know who is boss around here”. Borrowed from Bw Wembe.

A question – after the verdict to award Gor the Awendo match, what happens to the roudy Sony players cought on camera roughing up match officials?

All the best GM we expect a convincing win.

Fellow bloggers allow me to digress INTO MATTERS ELECTIONS.

The conditions for the last GM elections. Pretty cheap isn’t it.

1)Candidates will have to pay ksh 10 000 for nominations to the various elective posts available.

2)The vacant posts will include Chairman,Snr vice chairman,2nd vice chairman, secretary general, assistant secretary general, treasurer, organising secretary and assistant organising secretary. “WE CAN DO WITH ONLY 4.

3)Branches have been called upon to submit their lists of registered members to the secretariat by Nov 21st with mandatory identification numbers.

4)The elections will not be done by the secret ballot but delegates will que in line to vote for the prefered candidates.

5)All members will have to pay a ksh 100 to be allowed into the venue of the elections at City Stadium. TO ME THIS IS THE BIGGESTEST PROBLEM. MONEYED INDIVIDUAL CAN BUY INSTANT MEMBERS

The pledges of AR, Bwana & Roselinder were impressive but what happened?
Were these pledges just empty hype, never to be implemented or this there a problem at the EC?

How can fans, nay members hold EC accountable? We need a more structured membership. Without this GM is going nowhere!!!

According to Bwana, it is time to have generational change at Gor and this can only be done through visionary leadership and transparency at the club.

A summary of pleadges. I have provided the links for verification.

    1) Bwana is currently the vice chairman of the Gor Mahia facebook branch and has consolidated support from over 7000 members on this branch. WHY CAN’T HE MOBILIZE THIS CAPACITY/RESOURCE INTO A STRUCTURED MEMBERSHIP.

    2) He says that he is ready to handle the pressure that comes with the post and will make the running of the club more professionally and with utmost honesty.

    3) “My candidature is purely on grounds of honesty and integrity; a test that most fans feel some current and former office holders have not met as per their expectations. When I get into office my first aim is to ensure that the secretariat is set up and fully furnished with the latest technological devices that will enable fans access the club’s accounts upon request,”

    4) AR promised to build a stadium (could have at least improved the seating at City stadium), houses???, win the league among others.

    5) Roselinder pledged Setting up efficient short & long term marketing strategies to promote GM both locally & beyond the borders, improve the merchandize tendering & distribution, PROMOTE EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVE MATCH TICKETING AND ISSUING GATE COLLECTION REPORTS TO ALL STAKEHOLDERS,identify other avenues of resource mobilization for GM by exploring various investment opportunities, EXPAND AND STRENGTHEN GM FC MEMBERSHIP.

MY SCORECARD A,R 20% COZ OF SPONSORSHIP AND THE LEAGUE,

BWANA AND ROSELINDER 1% COZ YOU CAN’T GIVE SOMEONE A ZERO. THE REST DIDN’T EVEN PROMISE ANYTHING.

MOST IMPORTANTLY I AM MORE INTERESTED TO HEAR FROM BWANA & ROSELINDER WHAT PREVENTED THEM FROM ACHIEVING THESE NOBLE GOALS.A.R’S WEAKNESS IS LACK OF TRANSPARENCY. THE QUESTION IS WHY?
ITS A FEW MONTHS TO THE NEXT ELECTIONS LET US KNOW YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS OR WHAT HAS HINDERED YOU.
Over to you bloggers someone may have some insights.

  • Whenever GOR mahia does a small mistake they are heavilly punnished and due to that many teams have taken advantage of that by hiring goons by the name of gor mahia so as to benefit from it,but this time they have made a right choice

match has ended 6 nil. shabana were just to tired to go anywhere. anyway i congratulate them for trying. gor had nothing match to do but i liked the way we played. i thnk b.william has hastened the pace of the ball. the players were not necessarily running fast pace but no player stayed with the ball too long. that is a good change and if the accuracy can just increase kidogo then i thnk gor will go places. i cannot wait for those tusker guyz, obviously they will all of a sudden wake up from their slumber for ‘bonga points’ just coz it’s gor. i hope they get a beating of life. if gor wins i am starting my celebration na sitaki kujua. god bless u all.
