High flying Gor Mahia leads league in all statistics

Kogalo ended the first leg on a high note beating traditional rivals Tusker 1-0 at Kisumu Moi stadium. The win over Tusker encapsulates the kind of season Gor Mahia are having. Tusker is usually a difficult team for Gor Mahia yet this time Gor Mahia outplayed Tusker in all facets of the game.

As the first leg of the season ends, Gor Mahia have a commanding 12 point lead atop the standings. They have also scored more goals than any other team. With 30 goals, Gor Mahia have scored 8 more than second best Sofapaka. Gor Mahia have also conceded the least number of goals, having conceded only 6, which is 5 goals fewer than second best Ushuru FC.

At this point last season, Gor Mahia were atop the standings but barely. They led by one point. They had lost 3 games and drawn four including a shock loss to bottom placed Nakuru All Stars, a loss to Bandari and a dissapointing loss to arch rivals AFC.

This season, Gor Mahia have won 12 matches, which is 4 better than Ulinzi , the next best team. And Gor Mahia has only been forced to 3 draws and is the only unbeaten side so far.

Frank Ouna, a member of the technical bench for the past two years, says it is a team effort that is responsible for Gor Mahia’s good season.

“I thank the team, from the management, technical bench, players, fans and all those who have contributed to our success so far. It is a feat which cannot be achieved by one party rather it is a collective responsibility. We are happy finishing the first leg on top of the table, unbeaten and we hope we can maintain that in the second leg,” Ouna told goal.com after the match.

Every team that plays Gor Mahia works twice as hard in preparation as they would against other teams and Ouna is perfectly aware that the second leg will be challenging.

“It will be difficult to finish the season unbeaten for sure; however we are halfway done on the part of defending our title. We just need positive mind going forward and be focused for the entire second half. We have a chance of making it three titles out of three, something we are keen to achieve.” continued Ouna.

Finishing unbeaten would be a good feat but Gor Mahia players should only focus on winning one game at a time and not put undue pressure on themselves.

The man whose strike secured all three points Meddie Kagere has promised more goals.

“I came here to score goals and that is what I want to continue doing,” Kagere told Goal on Saturday. “I am a striker and the work of a striker is to score goals. I will work hard and continue to score goals because I want to help my team retain the Kenyan Premier League title.” said Kagere to goal.com

Kagere also praised the team atmosphere in the team which he said made his transition from Albania to Kenya easy

“I must thank my teammates for my short success since joining this great club. I have settled in well and I have no problems at all. My work now is to continue talking and walking on the pitch by scoring goals and assisting this club.”

Aside from the second leg of the league, Gor Mahia will be playing in the CECAFA club cup in July as well as the KPL Top 8 and FKF cup. Gor Mahia players will also be busy with international duty. Already Ali Abondo, Olunga, Collins Okoth and Boniface Oluoch have left to join the national team in Rwanda while Dirkir Glay has traveled to West Africa to team up with the Liberian national team.

  • ‘KOGALLO invocinbles ‘ , mayienga yiengo piny…..simply emulate the class of 1983 , score over 80 goals in one season and ice it with the triple – the league, CECAFA and GOTV cup. That will be the hallmark of greateness. !!! yes, legendary stuff.

Here are some even more shocking statistics from this season …..

    1. Record – the longest unbeaten run in the league – 15
    2. Record – the most consecutive clean sheets in the league – 10,
    3. Record – the highest scoring team in the league – 30
    4. Record – the meanest defence in the league – 6
    5. Record – the most number of players in the national team – 15
    6. Record – players with the highest number of assists – 3
    7. Record – the largest ever gap in the league leadership table – 12
    8. Record – the coach with the best league statistics ever – 79% success rate
and we are still counting the records ……….

am still waiting for two records to be broken – LOGA’s 27 match unbeaten run in all competitons in 2013 and class of ’83 – record average of 3 goals per game.

Bloggers and we still complain ! ? Count your blessings and Give us a break.

Congratulations to team, can the EC calm our nerves that they are keeping the core of this team intact for CAF Champions tournament next year? If so then they are the best bet to reach the money round and who knows, we could be African champions again.

Something special happened at Ingwe yesterday, all three goal keepers stayed away,Loga in his wisdom selected one Karim Ndugwa as stand in goal keeper and didn’t the Ugandan striker perform miracles, saving a penalty from BARAZA and earning AFC all three points. The fact of the own goal to me does not matter, it is this man Ndugwa who mattered all afternoon, MOVE OVER KASAYA, a new star has arrived in town. Congratulations Ingwe, now the small cat knows who is the bigger cat.

  • Kimanzi’s second half plan was simply perplexing. How does a coach go to a league match with a fixed mind to draw a match. Tusker only got into the match after Gor scored. Knowing the lethal Gor attack and the ‘Israel Border’ how was Kimanzi expecting to achieve his goal. This guy is not a fighter. The only player who wanted to win that match seems to be striker Were. However I must commend Tusker for turning A.Omar into a W/striker. This guy is lethal and reminds me of the Gor duo fullbacks. Unfortunately he is in a team with no ambition. Tusker just like the rest of the league only train for two matches. Tusker has no excuse to be at the position it finds itself in. That they only wanted to draw is shameful for the entire team.
This time last year we were craving that Gor should master the big teams in KPL with victories, what we are seeing now is that coaches have lost confidence in facing Gor and many are simply wailing about refs. Gor has become so lethal that every attack is turning into potential goal. I’m afraid that the rest of the league matches might end up being training matches for Gor. I cannot wait for east n central and the Africa champions league. Gor will meet agemates in these tournaments.
As for the mid season recruitment I ask the scouts to go for Olunga et Kagere replacements. At the moment there is none.
I also want to commend Logarusic for his kind heart. The guy has no business in AFC Leopards but that he has sacrificed his reputation to work with such chaos is simply amazing to say the least. This is a guy simply encouraging a dying horse to move on. And to anybody calling himself AFC Leopards fan, shame on you. Most of you a busy blasting the players who boycotted the match yet you have no idea how these players survive. I urge Raila to AGAIN come to the rescue of this club. It’s seems your only person who can rescue this club.

Yes I agree with you 100% All I hear is ‘the old players of Gor and AFC never minded about money’. Guys conveniently forget that during the era soccer was not a profession but rather a pleasant pass time as most of the players were employed elsewhere, notably Kenya Railways, Posta and Power, even KPA. Can we say the same today? NO. These guys are career footballers., pay them! By the way I fail to understand this hatred of Gor by soccer commentators in Kenya. Gor has had no sponsor for longer period than AFC, now that we are winning, they say ati its not local talent. Honestly if we want to export our talents EPL, is it fair not to expect others to do the same here? Why say we are hooligans? Celebrating our team is hooliganism? For your information most of soccer commentators in our FM stations know nothing about soccer. I can attest to this.

        • If it is going to take foreign players for Soccer in Kenya to go up so be it. At least they are coming here to sharpen us. Who for example saved AFC it was a player who is not even a Goal Keeper…

    • i disagree with two of your points (though i concur with the rest)

      1. Tusker did not come for a draw. In the 1st half they were the better team, the passed the ball well, were the calmer side, created 3 clear chances one of which could have seen Gor reduced to 10 men (We were lucky).
In the 2nd half our coach changed the tactic, we played our passing game.. attacked with zest, the fans were electric… we were simply unstoppable and theres nothing Tusker could have done.. I cant count the number of chances Lwanda Magere missed before he scored… even Abondo tear-gas

      2. Loga is not sacrificing anything… he has no choice… he cant quit and be jobless can he?

They can’t come out to rescue Ingwe. It’s apity if Club like AFC, can fail to raise a team to honour just a Match even one Goal-keeper. Ndugwa congr. you just another Bufon of Italy few keeper do save Penalty as you did it Man.You are areal player keep it up. Akina Chiko Lawi na Gilbert Selebwa, they only know how to sing AFC Leopards on the Media. From today onwards you should stop comparing Gor Mahia with AFC,it’s like comparing DAYLIGHT & NIGHT.

Ingo cannot talk now, he is still looking for some negatives to say about Kogalo. He is having difficulty finding any.

Nobody has stopped anybody from scouting top talent from out side the country,so that is to me a non issue, after-all some clubs are just swimming in money

We should all know that we are currently not beyond what happened to Ingwe yesterday. The reason I am saying that is because we still have financial issues hanging on our necks. So for those of us praising Gor (me included) on this forum try and have a way of lessening the financial burden on the EC by either:- using the PayBill number, joining the SACCO, buying the Gor bread, adopting a player and all the other initiatives. Also ensure that you genuinely pay to enter the stadium whenever we are the home team.
Other things include respecting our potential sponsors (some of them we meet them after a Gor match), Not invading the field after the match since this is the time for the players to warm down, thank God for the game as well as have the media to interview them.

  • Just imagine Tony Kwalanda of K24, did a ledge yesterday that GM, are also in problems like AFC Leopards, that GM,Officials did ask DP for help,to buy them Airtickets to Kisumu in order to honour Match between them and Tusker.Should somebody tell Tk that GM has got (1) their own Club Bus (2) If you are broke as he has aledged then you ask for MONEY NOT AIRTICKETS, DP, associates himself with the CHAMS not FOOD MONGERS!!!!!
