Who is Frank Nutall ?

Nutall with the Chinese side

There is scant information about prospective new coach Frank Nutall who is said to be taking over as Gor Mahia coach as reported by various media outlets. The 46 year old Nutall comes recomended by the immediate former Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson.

“We asked him (Bobby Williamson) to recommend a good coach. An understanding person considering our financial situation. We did not want a Logarusic (Zdravko) type that would give us ultimatums,” the source revealed to the Daily Nation.

Also according to the Nation, Nutall is set to join the Kenyan champions on a ‘trial basis’ until the end of the current league season, and then, depending on performances, either be awarded a longer contract or done away with.

It appears Nutall is currently employed as a fitness coach at Chinese side Qingdao Hainiu. Some of his past positions include being an FIFA instructor. Indeed his linekdin page lists him as a UEFA PRO Licence Coach, FIFA & AFC Instructor, Fitness Coach, Football Consultant available.

There is no evidence that he has held a head coaching position before. He has mostly been a fitness coach. In 2008 he worked alongside coach Gareth Southgate for premiership side, Middlesborough. Below is his coaching history.

Given his vast fitness experience, one can expect the fitness levels of Gor Mahia players to improve significantly and they will be less injury prone . What is not yet clear is his tactical acumen.

His lack of experience will be mitigated by the fact that he has worked with some top teams and presumably with some top class coaches. And Bobby Williamson must have seen some potential in the Scott. It also helps that because of his short contract, he will be highly motivated to prove doubters wrong.

Iddi out, Ottamax in

Former Gor Mahia and Harambee stars goalkeeper Mathew Ottamax Owino is now the new goalkeeper trainer at Gor Mahia. He replaces long time goalie-coach Iddi Salim. This is the second time Salim has been removed. In 2013 he was accused of conspring to sell Rama Salim to a Tanzanian side and was briefly sidelines. Salim expressed no regrets at being replaced.

We held a discussion with the club management and it was decided that I should leave on Monday 1 September. I am content with the move and I am wishing Ottamax all the best, he told futaa.com

Ottamax expressed his happiness on his social media pages. “The prodigal son is back home at The Mighty Kogalo… Am technically GREEN!

Tom Ogweno, Jolawi Obondo back in

In what is perhaps the most obvious evidence that Logarusic is not coming back, Tom Ogweno has been hired as the physical trainer at Gor Mahia. Remember it was Logarusic who instigated the firing of Ogweno at the end of the 2012 season. At the time Ogweno was team-manager and when Gor Mahia lost the league title in their last match of the season, Logarusic accused Ogweno of among other things, mismanaging the team’s meal times.

Jolawi Obondo has been Gor Mahia team manager before. But he was sent packing along with Anaba Awono following the club’s disastrous start to the 2012 season. At the time he was accused of inciting players and benefiting financially from their sale. Obondo vehemently denied the accusations.

Frank Ouna has been appointed as assistant coach where he will work alongside Bob Ogolla who has been retained.

Let’s give the new coach and new technical bench a chance.
That said I cannot help but note that the technical bench just got bloated and ati the club is “broke”
In my view only Ottamax should have replaced Iddi.
Ouna can easily double up as assistant coach cum TB if Sir. JBO has been retained.
I hope the new coach has a strong personality and will quickly rearrange his TB if the usual ‘fitina’ from the usual culprits (especially Jolawi)rears its ugly head.
My policy and belief is that you can’t judge a coach who has inherited someelses squad.
So until Jan when F.Nutall has had a chance to fill in the gaps by bringing in his own players I will hold my peace and hereby wish him and his new bench all the best.
On fitness EC surely how to expect players to be fit physically & psychologically when they’ve not been paid for upto “3 months”. These lads could be skipping meals!

Being a Scotsman, I hope he will not let Efusi go scot-free like his cousin BW. All in all I’d rather have him for now than go through the troubles and expenses of purchasing a ‘sedhengeng’ (military belt) to secure Zdravko’s trousers. It is good to note that Sir Bobby has not been discarded. I pray they bring Odhis Dube back. The playing unit needs his maturity and leadership in the pitch.

@ODUOR12, I echo your comments. We want a top notch player yet we cannot even pay the players adequately. Those for Loga should know that we were unable to increase his pay to 750K when we had a sponsor. How about now? I hope Porto fans didn’t say that they needed a coach and not an interpreter when Mourinho joined them from Barca as Robson’s interpreter. By the calibre of the KPL all we need is someone who can instil some discipline on the EC, TB and players. With Ouna as his assistant there is still institutional memory from the BW era. If the large TB will provide results then the better. By the way even Loga when he joined some of us labelled him a tourist/journeyman. Let’s not forget that Frank has the highest qualifications in coaching that you can get in Europe and now is his chance to put that in practice and we hope he succeeds.
On finances, let’s not forget that if we win the leagure we get close to 10m and this can help clear the backlog of debts.

When former Uganda Cranes Coach Csaba László, left for greener pastures he seconded Bobby Williamson for the Cranes job. Bobby did not disappoint. Now BW has done the same at Kogallo and I expect Frank will not disappoint. Let us give FN a chance. Let us support him 100%. Karibu sana.

When Alex ferguson seconded Moyes to man united we all know what happenend. This business of secondment is not good.Is it a coincidence that scotts like seconding their own,i thought its only in africa where we have tribalism and nepotism, kumbe hata the odieros have it.

@ombeng ombeng many organisations hire based on secondment or what I call a through pass. Moyes failed with Man U, Williamson succeeded with Cranes. Who on earth does not want to work with somebody he knows and trusts.

It is definitely foolhardy for Loga supporters to begin badmouthing new people even before beginning work.

Its time to mature up and accept GM is a very big entity with so many interested people. Let us not take our emotions too far..this is a public area.

At least i’ve seen the Zico group toning down and reasoning sports manly. It will be good for us keeping it Gor for all of us, if anything we all want to win the league and no coach guarantees a way to the trophy.

ZICO himself has done himself the most honourable thing.

I much prefer foreign coaches because they bring new ideas and are impartial. This fellow Nuttall is likely the only one who can work in the current financial state. And its true that in the current financial state, Loga was not an option. Under these circumstances, we have no choice but to give Nuttall a chance. Lets see

I want to request EC to give FN full power to select playing squad or first eleven

Also i thank Ec for bringing back ottomax and ogweno i belief the dead minute goals we have conceded will be a thing of past as ottomax will teach jerry what to do also have been stressing that our boys are not physically fit and with coming of ogweno boys will get their fitness.

Above all i want to thank EC for hiring FN and since he will not be asking huge pecks, part of what we could have paid him will go along way to paying playing unit

Now there is no reason as to why Gor cannot play beautiful game, THE EC have done their part.

The news of Gor playing Simba sc here in dar es salam is spreading like fire a friend of mine has informed me, infact tickets are overpriced i.e for kes 500, kes 1000, kes 2000, kes 3000. How i hope Gor fans can be patriotic and pay gate collection without bribing there way into stadiums.

I urge all Gor mahia playing units who happen to visit this site/blogg to swallow their ego and do as they are instructed by the new coach since he is highly qualified.

Also i want to request the new coach to guide and coach timothy owino personally on what to do when he approaches opponent goal post and also how to score goals. lASTLY i urge FN to coach our defenders how they can defend when we scores
