It is official: Were will not play this season

Despite valiant efforts by club officials to register Paul Were, the player will not be available to play in the second leg of the 2015 season.

“His application was lodged two minutes after the deadline and the system rejected it. Therefore, I want to confirm that he cannot play in Kenya,” FKF transfer manager Ronnie Oyando told goal.com on Wednesday.

Oyando further went on to say that they requested FIFA to make an exception but the request was denied.

“Fifa have replied back saying they cannot help solve this issue. They have insisted that it would sound like they are bending transfer rules to suit one party and that cannot be the case.” he continued.

The delay was partially caused because it took too long for Gor Mahia to agree to terms with Paul Were.

Were will now need to look for a club outside Kenya. he expressed his disappointment over the issue.

“This is obviously bad news for me because my mind was already fix on playing here in Kenya. I, however, understand what has happened and my agent is due to arrive from South Africa so that we can review my options,” he said to the KPL site.

The move comes as a dissapointment to club fans who saw Were as adding another attacking dimension.

  • There must be some forces which didn’t want Were to play for Gor Mahia, I heard Chiko Lawi said in one his talk-show that Were was not willing to play for GM? Anyway GM will survive without him, good luck for him!!
