Its down to the last day again

The last match against KRA ended in a tie

Once again Gor Mahia are in a do or die situation. On the very last day of the 2014 Tusker Premier League, they are one point ahead of Sofapaka. Though they hold their own destiny in their own hands, they have no margin for error. They simply have to beat Ushuru on the last day.

Gor Mahia’s record on the last day of the league has not been stellar. In 2011, they needed to beat Sofapaka and hope that Ulinzi lose. And in 2012, they needed to beat Thika United. Both matches ended in a draw. The latter game then current team manager Tom Ogweno his job when coach Zdravko Logarusic accused him of mismanaging team meals on match day. Nobody knows the truth but the team did seem sluggish on that day. In the end a sombre mood engulfed the stadium with players and fans alike weaping.

Gor Mahia will have learned from their lessons from the past. They will know that Ushuru might come to the game ready to park the bus and frustrate Kogalo. Coach Nuttall will therefore need to come up with a plan that can counter thi scenario. An early goal will help remove Ushuru from their defensive shell.

The last time the two sides met, the match ended in a draw and Gor Mahia can actually thank keeper Jerim Onyango for that because there were several defensive lapses which Ushuru, then known as KRA could have capitalized on. Kogalo cannot afford a repeat of the same.

Fans must be patient

Fans are tense. They badly want to end a difficult season with the league title. However they must show patience with the players. The team may even fall behind during the match. Fans must show patience and not put the players under pressure. Some of the inexperienced players will only get more nervous and make yet more errors. The 12th man must make their presence felt and cheer the team from minute 0 to injury time.

Three cheers to the fans on this blog and elsewhere who are doing their part to financially motivate the players. This is the time when the playing unit needs its fan base.

Yes, its down to the last day, is history repeating itself ? the last day is jinxed . statistics don’t lie !!!

    2009 last game …gor mahia 0 Veg Pro 1
    2010 last game….Gor mahia 1 City Stars 1
    2011 last game….Gor mahia 0 Sofapaka 0
    2012 last game…..Gor mahia 1 Thika 1
    2013 last game…….Gor mahia 0 KCB 2

I remain bitterly ‘realistic’. Good luck boys and please work on your mentality, personally I will not watch the game out of sheer disappointment of 2012.

Have a ‘realistic ‘ day bloggers.

I have no fears but as Jakoyo says lets be realistic but optimistic. History has no room here this time round although everybody would want to disappoint Gor. Nobody wants us to win except ourselves,so lets be very careful as we approach this game; lets not put players under pressure, they already know what to do.The KRA that will turn up is certainly not the one that has lost 10 games in a row but so I believe there will be a very determined Kogalo.GO FOR IT boys.

God willing I will watch this game and go home peacefully irrespective of the outcome. This is going to be high octane game, very tense; Three things I want to emphasize to the powers that be: 1.Security 2.Security 3. Security

Four things I would like to tell our supporters
1.Good behavior, decorum 2. Accept the results, whatever it is 3.Your family will still need you after this game
    4. We will need sponsors, let us not spoil our chances 5. Gor Mahia is a brand, lets not spoil the brand.

Peace, peace, peace.lets keep calm and cheer the team, they will deliver.Lesson learnt-we did not see the Kisumu fan base turn against the team after conceding the goal or when Eric was introduced in the second half resumption.Instead, they cheered and two goals came in quick succession.point is;let us not put undue pressure on the players when they are on the pitch. They are capable of retaining the title.
This league is not for the faint heearted,if you cannot withstand the pressure or heartbreak(God forbid),kindly stay at home and watch on SSE9.For me and my young family,we will be at the stadium to be part of the history, irrespective of the outcome.

Guys, This is the same thing they used to say that we cannot win against Ulinzi in Nakuru until we did it this year. Even Ingwe beat Chemo of all places in Ksm and last year when Bandari was at its strongest we beat them in Msa.
I can assure all that we will win convincingly on saturday. Sofa MIGHT not even beat Tusker despite their current form.
KRA can be good on their day but we have more to fight for than them. By the way lose or win their position on the log will not change and they are no longer fighting for a Top 8 or against relegation. This is the same with Tusker unless they are docked the Muho game points their position 3 is guaranteed.
So patience and more patience is what is required on that day. Personally I’m not worried for nothing (to quote Kosero) because the MIGHTY GOD once ‘punished’ us and we learnt from that and became good followers

  • Its becoming very popular with our haters that gor never wins its last game.
This should not get into anybodys head, its a psychological strategy by our enemies to disorganise the mental strength of our players.
I want to tell them that it wont work, our players are mature enough and wont saccumb to their tricks.

Gor has asked the game to be moved to kisumu.

@Ombeng, it is just a request to KPL which has not been granted yet. The excuse that there might be hired goons in Nairobi to cause chaos is not a very water-tight one since Nyayo and Kasarani are more secure than even Kisumu. The advantage is that this should give Kisumu fans a chance to cheer their team to victory as well as taking football to the grassroots.
Knowing how such a game can be volatile I think Kisumu is the right place for it

Tusker has sold the match to Sofapaka how can such a high magnitude match be played at Ruaraka surely anyway once again welcome Back Kisumu for the Match of the year.

That one of Kisumu I am not sure. Too much travelling can ruin the team. What is the advantage of Kisumu? Are the fans there more supportive? Maybe Nairobi fans make players too tense.

@Dan its best to have nothing to fight for… remember Thika had nothing to play for in 2012. What am saying is we are already putting pressure on the boys, look at the writer saying ‘there’s no room for error’. This only makes the players tense…no room for error made players like Ali Abondo and others not even want the ball passed to them… Guys we should make the boys believe there’s plenty of room for error, that we are already proud of them regardless of the result. Only under such environment can we win… the boys will enjoy the game, they’ll be creative and the fans will go home with happy memories

  • @JABILO, i will make my contribution by tomorrow noon. Please keep the fundraiser on till after the cup coz if i don’t travel i will add the money that i would have paid at the gate.

Personally i was for Nyayo Stadium. It gives the club a better avenue for bigger collections at the gate. VIP 1,000 and terrace 300 would be my suggestion. The league may resume in August and the officials need to think of solutions for post season now more than ever.

I hope the Kisumu move has nothing to do with the ‘final game jinx’ being written and discussed all over the media. If we are going to Kisumu for fear of the jinx, then i believe it will continue.

Lastly, the coaches need to work on the mental strength of Shakava. The last two games have shown a player feeling the weight of the occasion. He is playing with too much pressure. Such a time last season he was relegated and now he is looking at the cup.

Pressure is already there.since Gor Mahia have left it to a must win last game in order for us to lift any silverware this season.
There are no 2 ways about it the coaches know it, the players know it, the officials know and the fans know it,
ONLY A WIN AGAINST USHURU WILL GUARANTEE US OUR ONLY TROPHY IN 2014 against all odds.
Anything else we may come out second best in a difficult season.

It’s unfortunate that Baba Kizito is out for accumulating 5 yellow cards and Timothy might not make it. That’s a good chance for Daniel Onyango to prove himself in his home town as well as Eric to bring the cup home. That issue of last game jinx is just that. The players and fans should turn a deaf ear to it. There even used to be a talk of us never winning our first game or beating Mathare Utd or City Stars. We have done all that in the past. And we will continue proving the haters wrong
