Jerim explains absence

courtesy of the Standard

Eyebrows were raised when Gor Mahia goalkeeper Jerim Onyango appeared to have been overlooked prior to Sunday’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match against Ulinzi Stars which the champions won 2-1 at Afraha Stadium. But the goalkeeper has come out to explain that he had asked for permission to be away on personal issues, but he will be available for Sunday’s KPL-Top 8 match against Thika United.Onyango was heavily criticised after the team’s 3-2 win over KCB for conceding a simple goal and his absence from the Ulinzi game had been a subject of debate among the fans. But he has come out to clarify his absence insisting he had asked to be away. “What happened against KCB is normal and the coach cannot use that to sideline me. I was away on personal business but now I am back and ready to get back my position in goal,” he said.

“It will be a tough match and we expect Thika United to wait for us to attack. But we have a good record against them and this should motivate us to win the match,” said the top goalkeeper. On the other hand, Thika United coach, John Kamau, says the team are bracing for a tough battle on Sunday.
Kamau led his side to a final appearance last year where they lost to eventual winners Tusker but believes they can do better this time around but must first get over their league champions opponents. “Gor Mahia have picked good results on the league front recently but we are also doing well. Furthermore, being a knock-out tournament sets the stage for a tough match,” he pointed out.
Kamau believes the most prepared side mentally and tactically will carry the day on Sunday and not even the presence of the dreaded ‘green army’ will rattle his players. “I have been focusing on preparing my team tactically and mentally for the game because this is what will determine the final results. “As for the expected huge turn-out of fans, we are not intimidated. critical moments “Gor Mahia fans always bring a great atmosphere to the stadium and only a weakling can buckle under the weight of their taunts. It is something we are used to and always look forward to play against them,” he said.

Jerry forget abt those records and explanations abt your absence and deliver us xonvincing victory come sunday. You couldnt force yourself into the coach’s lineup even if you didnt have those personal commitments.accept what happened(which can definatly be used to sideline you during future crucial matches),sharpen your goal keeping skills to win the coach’ s confidence.

Jerry has been away delivering a Tusker bottle to Khayange in London.I do not see anything wrong with that for it has also given the other goalkeepers a chance to prove themselves.
Jerry,s dedication to the team is known to all and he does not owe anybody an explanation!
We also need to understand that in sports ,players undergo a slump at times before they rise again. This we have seen with Jerry so many times and its normal.
    We are behind you jagoal.

Appreciate what…..? someone cant continue allowing easy goals then you tell us to appreciate if sserenkuma missed one penalty ever since he came to gor ,it is something that we can understand but this is a case where someone continue diluting other players effort then he tells us that it is normal. To the fans who does not know jerry and his movements with kenya premier league coaches are the ones who can be behind him.i will be couregeous enough to remain alone on my stand, jerry is a flop and it is high time the guy is released in june to search for another team but not gor mahia. Can he deny that the year he sold game to tusker when he allowed easy goal during our last match with thika he was not seen with Matano a day to the match. The guy has to go, there is nothing like he went on his personal business ,just tell us that you went to your home to collect your black magic you are always injuring your competitors with.i don’t fear telling you that this is not your year in gor mahia with your black magic,it has expired and the time has reached for you to be shown the door.Your comrades you were sabotaging the team with are nowadays warming the bench oboya, daddy and akumu it is high time you follow them. And you know very well that oboya and daddy were thrown away from the training ground the other day when they came drunk in the training ground.we will not allow old guards like yourself and retirees like oboya to come and pollute the small boys like calabaar, wanyonyi ,shakava, bataro and the rest ,go your way man.

Records count for nothing if we play without commitment and purpose. No player has a permanent position in the team and I urge the TB to be courageous and stick to the team that won in Afraha.David Juma has proofed that he’s more composed and confident and therefore deserves to be in 1st eleven.

@level mind you don’t seem to have level mind as your name states,am with jack omollo jerrys comrades of Daddy and oboya whom he was grouping with to sabotage the team are nowhere nowadays and if you can know what Rachier went through on the issue of jerry after kcb match last wednesday you could have kept quiet.Rachier was held in the stadium upto 7 pm to explain why jerry must always in the goal,so mr levelmind you should know that there are people who are laggards more than you and are following gor in each and every step it makes,so you better keep quiet my friend .Jerry never had any commitment truth be told, the pressure was too much on him and i even propose that the guy should be out until further notice he is a let down our game with thika is a knockout and the guy is an m-pesa guy and he can be bought easily so let him continue warming the bench, juma continue with your good work.Jerry to jajuok and we cant hide it truth be told.

  • @ Dan Original i still believe the admin of this site is the one encouraging all this i can authoritatively call nonsense n av no apology to make, people can pretend here to be loving GOR than others,if we could av been addressing serious issues that can make this great club go some one or two steps ahead like we av passion when talking about the black magic n how jerry is doing to other player we could be far,the other day we were crying for a way to help the club out n when the office came up with one i did not see the serious bloggers who always talk passionately about black magic contributing to that idea some even started criticizing saying the EC r begging for help,me i would just pray that lets be positive when blogging here, the satan called jerry is the same guy who saved 4 penalty kicks when we were in gabon, the same satan is the one who kept a clean sheets in 2012/2013 hence getting the goal keeper of the year n in 2012 he was the runners up,the same man now we r calling all names is the same guy when they used to encourage some other players on when we were in need when people used to contribute as little as 10bob for the players fare home after game, jerry pro, awilo n jakambare these r some of the players me as a person will point a finger at coz of the loyalty they av been to this great club less we forget,i think the best thing to do is for the coach to do a rotation on the goal keeping department n see what impact the other keepers can offer but not to realize some as some of u tend to blve, look at a team like real madrid IKE Casilus there 1 keeper is on the bench same to arsenali they av not make noise for them to be sold so plz plz for the sake of the team n the individual players we always call names here lets desist from all this,n i rest my case

Is it green bloggers or blockers…..? please note that this is not an issue of green bloggers, it is gor mahia fans contributing about the performance of their club.so the issue of green bloggers should not appear anywhere since we believe that everyone here is gor mahia fan and is entitled to his own opinion.so to the kaminogembo guy withdraw your words, the issue of pretending to be opinion leader or the gate keeper of this blog had been put aside and here we discus gor mahia issues ,so if someone can say the mistake of this guy called jerry so be it, so long as it can develop the team.of late the guy has been out of form and i will not be left out of the people who are against him.And know again i have become very bitter with him ,how can he tell us that the goal he was scored during kcb match was normal…?,We don’t want side shows and you should know that you are not kit mikai to be in gor mahia goalkeeping position forever.Cheap politics of demoralizing your fellow players morale every know and then wont be accepted.Jerry must change and if he is not willing to change then he better search for another team but not gor mahia. The guy should not appear anywhere within the lineup during thika match since this is a knockout game,we are tired of excuses and blame games .

  • We have a good record against them….my foot…Jerry you must be a very big joker, and as others have said you have to change .i don’t want to dwell so much on this guy since we are the people who removed him from KRA When he was coming to gor and i know him inside out,at this moment he should not even talk of being within the sticks.Jerry don’t tell us that the kcb goal was normal with a goalkeeper of your caliber,no wonder you are always warming the bench in harambee stars. To the people who like sweeping things under carpet and are always neither here nor there and cant take there stand like the dan original guy, stand aside and let the bloggers who can contribute to do so, and air their views.Last week i can remember when ogango trailler and omollo were mad in this blog about the players who were sabotaging the team(jerry, oboya, kevo and akumu) and the likes of dan were the ones who never wanted them to speak.know the team has started performing and congratulations are coming from all bloggers.Little did you know that the things that omollo and trailer guy was saying here are the truth and that is why some of the mentioned players does not make it to the bench….? so if someone is exploding let him do so, the guy performance has not impressed almost 90% of gor mahia fans and it is something that is being seen by everyone ,so let him not try to be relevant because the team performed in Nakuru and he was not there….Let him continue warming the terraces, owino calabaar is leading the team well and we are ok with juma between the sticks.politics aside Mr jerry give us some space.

@Titus Odhiambo, sorry bro, I meant ‘bloggers’. Its just my feeling that we have gone too much personal and this does not look good. Its also obvious that some of you know Jerry on a personal perspective and the attacks will never build Jerry but will end up demoralized. I do know that some of the things Jerry does are very wrong and unprofessional but there is a better way to address them. I agree a goal of that magnitude negligence can never qualify to be termed normal. But we have to understand that not all pple know how to use the write words to describe things. To say ‘normal’ is a mistake but lets give this guy a break, lets encourage and support him to be better again. About selling the match, I highly doubt but again I don’t deny but I hope the entire management are also reading these posts. Titus, don’t hang me bro, its just we react to issue differently.

obondo,my comments were about jerry, and i only posed a question to omollo and maybe you also could answer since you guys seem to know a lot about jerry and black magic. How come his magic hasn’t propelled him to be Kenya’s No1,does it only work in GM.?Many are the games we won thanks to some daring saves made by the keeper,i never heard such comments-black magic or is a case of double standards, its only bad when it doesn’t work for you.
May i inform you that if you are a laggard,am sorry AM NOT,so the issue of people being more laggards than i is a non-starter.i wasn’t coerced to support GM NEITHER am competing with anyone in supporting GM.
Unlike you and your like-minded,i do appreciate whoever has done duty for GM as a player, regardless of a loss or a win.
Am in no way supporting jerry’s blunder, but interestingly he is being demonized for less than ten matches that he didn’t play well, but how many matches has he played for our beloved kogalo?let’s be fair to the dude.
i personally think juma could make a better goalie than jerry, but am in no-way going to abuse him on the basis of that.
Suppose your boss or friends or even your family members could only look at your short comings and give a blind eye to whatever sacrifice you have done to them or all the hard work you have put to work. How would you feel.MY PLEA IS LETS APPRECIATE OUR PLAYERS.

Guys, sorry. As much as much as some of us villify Jerry I have watched his deputy even over the weekend and i can say authoritatively that we don’t have the option Mapunda gave us. Now we are on the players yet a few weeks ago we were on the coach. How things change but a reminder is that this is Gor and we have our own ways of doing things.
All we can do is to support all the players and TB in order to deliver

Yes Jerry has been performing below par but we should not view him negatively.I‘m challenging my fellow bloggers to compare the positives and negatives of Jerry‘s input for the team and see which side outweighs the other. Honestly the guy has sacrificed alot for the team that we cannot hide away from even ManCity defender made a blunder against Liverpool that might cost them the league but he‘s not being villified . Let‘s criticise with decorum that doesn‘t demoralize one. Even in our work places we don’t get such extreme criticism from our bosses.
Does it mean if Juma will experience dip in form then insults will be thrown at him? LET‘S CRITICISE CONSTRUCTIVELY!!!!!!

  • Insults aside, i think having watched Bataro in one pre-season friendly match, i can confidently say that he is our best bet on goal. One day it will be proven.

Jerry is an equally good keeper but lately looks uncomfortable. I’m not sure if he is scared of making mistakes, he still has an injury or is reading this blog which is causing his tension.

Juma too is a good keeper but against Ulinzi looked shakier than i have ever seen him. Is he also playing with an injury?

Bwana Iddi Salim, look at the goals we have socked in compared to last season and you will notice that our goalkeeping levels have dropped. We conceded 15 goals the whole season and now have conceded 8 goals with nine games played.

Jokanyanam,You are burning our house.Allow me to reiterate that I am a non-Luo-Gor fan. Some of us don’t subscribe to this School of thought.Black magic?Any proof?Causing his competitors to be injured? This begs the question:Jerry has been at Gor close to ten years. If he was a juju believer,Gor couldn’t have waited this long to be champs.Jerry juju could have done it much earlier. The juju could have given us a sponsor by now.The juju could have landed Situmbeko, the Sudanese guy,Kahata,Atudo et al at Gor.Jokanyanam you are burning our house. Please be reasonable.

  • Gor Mahia duo of Jerim Onyango and Dan Sserunkuma have expressed their delight at being appointed the brand ambassadors of the 2014 edition of the COPA Coca-Cola Under-15 youth football tournament.

The tournament which was launched April 5 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County, features both boys and girls team who are below the age of 15 years and will be competed in ten countries in the continent.

The Gor Mahia captain couldn’t hide his excitement, but urged upcoming players to take football seriously.

“I am honoured to have been appointed as the brand ambassador of this great tournament. I am happy be associated with this noble cause of developing and searching for football talent in the country. But let the young players give their best in everything they do because they can also earn a living from football,” said Onyango.

His sentiments were echoed by Sserrenkuma, who’s also a product of the tournament.

“I am proud of what Coca Cola are doing, without their support I couldn’t be what I am today. It’s through this same tournament that I managed to improve my football skills,” said Sserunkuma.

“I hope this year’s edition will see more talent unearthed in the region. I am pleased that through Copa I am now able to give back to the society,” he added.
