Kenya Premier League to start with 16 teams

The Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) has given directive that the 2017 Kenyan Premier League begins on 25th February with 16 teams initially. The status of Muhoroni Youth, Sofapaka, KCB and Vihiga United is pending.  A decision will be made later on to determine which two out of those four teams will be added to the league.

Rachier defends himself

Gor Mahia Chair Ambrose Rachier has been accused of fomenting the current chaos along with the other KPL brass.  Rachier has however sought to clear his name.

“We are subordinates and the federation which runs football in the country has authority to do that. He (Nick Mwendwa) is the president of football in this country and we will honor what he wishes. We will not defy him,” said Rachier to capital Sport.

They have also been accused of refusing to meet with the FKF to resolve the issue. But Rachier says there are genuine reasons for not having the meeting.

“We are not trouble makers as many people out there have been made to believe. The chairman is genuinely sick. He has been unwell since he came back from Germany and we can’t set an exact day for the meeting. We will just wait till he feels better and we make a date. We are not against the meeting,” Rachier told Capital Sport.

However FKF dismissed such talk as “delaying tactics”.

“It is becoming tiring now. If he is really unwell, I think he can still send a proxy and the meeting goes on. We had also agreed that if there are two people from either side, that’s enough for a quorum,” FKF Executive Committee member Chris Amimo said to capital sports.

Rachier has no problem with the 18 team format but he has caveats.
“We have no problem going to 18 once the dispute of the six teams who all want to play in the league is resolved. Promotion and demotion should be determined on sporting grounds and we also need to be engaged as per the agreement we signed. “They want 18, and time is running out. When and where will they play?” Stadia are being closed for rehabilitation and time is also running out. On our side, we are ready to solve this,” he continued.

This off field antics is what drags Kenyan football behind.
Last year we knew Ulinzi and Tusker would be playing continental football. What has the federation done to assist these clubs in preparing for the same?
Had our league started when it should have these two teams would have built the necessary momentum to compete effectively.
As it is Ulinzi have a 1 goal deficit to overturn when they meet their opponents in the return leg.Good luck to them and Tusker today.

If KPL and FKF need more time to talk at each other (not with each other – they don’t now how to do that), how about the league be postponed till August? Talk of killing two birds with one stone. We get to align our league calendar with the mostly internationally favoured August- May calender and at the same time KPL and FKF get all the time they need to fight. This way our clubs will not suffer lack of match fitness when playing CAF and The confederations cup.

To kill the boredom while waiting for August, we play the GoTV and Top 8, and also the juniors competition from now till then.

@ Jasego, is this idea sellable?

@ marto original the idea would have been thinkable in other scenarios but this being an election year which is furthermore taking place in august of all months becomes a high risk period which might throw the league in an indefinite state of limbo depending on the outcomes of the presidential contest.Let us just start in earnest so August finds us somewhere Safe in league terms…

  • AR tred carefully lest it be perceived that one community is scuttling football progress in the country (Rachier,Oguda and Adagala) Anyway I can see light at the end of the tunnel in two week’s time.We look forward to enjoy watching kogalo’s matches very soon.Ulinzi was beaten 1 0 by Al hilal Benghazi, hope that our boy Baron did not run aimlessly without looking up to pass the ball. Will Tusker game be live on supersport? I can forgo Arsenal game to watch our opponents play against that Mauritius club.

  • Tusker draw 1-1 with st. Louis, they still have a chance away but a game of football requires that players run and think at the same time just as Loga used to say infact this is what differentiates a game of soccer from athletics. There are times that you play the ball out intelligently to safety and there are times that players make intelligent runs and passes into spaces. In short a game of soccer requires alot of thinking a part from the physicality. In Kenya we still have lots of ground to cover but we are trying. My appeal goes to FKF and KPL to end their wrangles and let soccer be played on the pitch, so many families depend on this beautiful game

  • Let us just start the league in August/ September like other major leagues. In the meantime, we can play FKF matches based on a group system. The matches should also be home and away.

At AR please do not give these Mwendwa a chance he is Drunk of power , he cant be the referee and the manager let him go back to his JDs and learn his roles . Managing KPL is is for the KPL CEO and the clubs themselves he should provide referees Role not management.

I hate to confess this Jasego wuod Kanyada, nevertheless. i will confidentially tell you that GOR’S other name begins with an ‘O’. I feel so bad to confess this but we have to live with it…. Mwendwa is tyring to show us who has the powers however brutal and awkwardly. And he is doing it most unfortunately. Ne forgets that the other teams have bribed him heftily to be there. He forgets , forgets and forgets.

Mwendwa was supposed to clean Kenyan football but is faring worse than Nyamweya. Receiving 10 million from Nakumatt to ease their promotion is blatant abuse of office and avenue for conflict of interest. Technically that makes Nakumatt co-sponsors of the league. I have seen people applaud Mwendwa here for relegating Sofapaka and Muhoroni. What they forget is that the rules indicate a team should only be relegated for SPORTING reasons. If he gets away with this UNSPORTING relegation of the two then what stops him from relegating Gor say for hooliganism? We already have a precedent in the point deduction!!! In as much some of us hate Rachier and will automatically support his nemesis Mwendwa, let us think carefully lest the rule we applaud now come back to bite us in the a**

would it be appropriate to deduct 6 pts from the proposed teams for bribing the executive with 10 million Kshs? Would it be prudent to ban the officials from soccer? Had it been Kogallo, the answer to these questions would have been definitely yes…i am perturbed.

Guys, apart from the 17 rules of the game which remain constant the other rules can be crafted by the local FA to help run their game. E.g. the red card is treated differently by different FAs. For some it counts for both the league and Cup competitions , for others not. When Milan and Juventus were relegated for betting/bribery cases were those SPORTING issues? Portsmouth was threatened with relegation if they went into administration ( broke) . So what I am saying some rules might be unfair but our soccer administrators also need to stand out. The way clubs in SA are run is so professional. why cant we do so locally.
As a brand we need to guard Gor from issues that might drag us behind. It’s obvious we are the most successful club locally and also the most hated and loved.
I can only say that if we don’t prematurely stop matches and be rowdy then we don’t have to fear the new laws. As it is Tusker or Ulinzi will never be a victim of points deduction due to crowd violence because they don’t have those fans in the first place . For Gor until the season ends you cannot know what us fans have in store.
By the way I have seen Arsenal score more that two scores using the hand and they ended up winners. The reference to this you will only get in the papers. No violence

@Jasego, i’ve weighed in on the Sundown’s issue but i don’t when my views will be uploaded coz usual my posts have to be moderated. That aside the possibility of a Zico(a legend as a player) comeback has giving me malaria when i remember the rot in GM that led to his ouster despite having his own personal vigilante crew. Why are Mugabe and ZM taking us round in circles always excuses and recycling. What does the brazilian asst. coach do? Isn’t ZM just looking for a scapegoat by insisting on a local as an asst. coach? Yawa at this rate will GM make an impact regionally or continentally cum 2018 or even 2019?

For me i still believe Nick mwendwa is taking kenya football nowhere until he leaves that post. He cannot manage anything , he rigged himself in the position rigged kariobangi sharks into the league and also rigged out Gor from the tittle and now he is trying to rig out Sofapaka and Muhoroni. This person must be fought from left right and cent re until he fails. Nyamweya raised kenya league and despite his late hrs corruptions he did well and we won many trophies out of fairness he ensured in the Game. Mwendwa is just talking like a chartter box doing nothing
