Kerr confident ahead of Everton friendly

Kerr at Goodison Park

Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr is in the UK on a scouting mission. He is there to scout Everton FC whom Gor Mahia will play in a friendly.

“They are very organized and disciplined, they work hard not to concede and patiently build up their goals unlike us who go all out from the word go aiming to score,” Kerr told Nation Sport

The trip has been funded by Sportpesa and Kerr was appreciative of the sponsors.

“It was good experience for me to watch them play thanks to SportPesa, that’s part of my job and they must be careful when we meet because we equally have a good team with players able to match them.” he said.

Gor Mahia are due to start training for the Everton match on Tuesday. Leading the training sessions will be  assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno and goalkeeper coach Willis Ochieng.

I’m confident with my technical bench, we will work on speed of play and agility when they are back in training, Zico knows how we do it, he knows the tempo I need so that is sorted,” said Kerr to the Nation.

Gor Mahia last met Everton in the hot and humid Dar es Salaam. This time they will face Everton in conditions that favour the Merseyside team.

“I just want my players to enjoy the experience of playing a team in the EPL, it’s going to be cold, wet and probably windy but it’s a dream and absolute pleasure playing here,” said Kerr.

When the two sides last met, Gor Mahia lost 2-1. Jacque Tuyisenge scored Gor Mahia’s goal with a well taken header. That Kogalo side was somewhat stronger than today’s side. But then again Gor Mahia players tend to rise to the occasion.

On social media, Kerr compared facilities available at Everton and urged the Ministry of sports and FKF to wake up.

No i support you my friend we said Ze Maria cannot succeed much anywhere since we had analyzed his tactics and found that he is a builder of youth programs but delivering urgent big stage accolades is not his thing…

Lose, win , draw no matter, we are making a big statement. Which other Kenyan team has played an EPL team?in London? None, so this match is not about winning or losing but it’s about its big statement.

Obviously the momentum will be with Everton. The season in England is gathering steam, they will be playing at home, the weather will be in their favour and they are generally performing well in the league.

So in my opinion, let’s not put our team under unnecessary pressure to win.We are going there for the experience and exposure and to savour the atmosphere that is Goodison Park.

Go Go boys.. enjoy yourselves, mingle with the locals, enjoy good football, sample the delicacies there, visit the scenic sites, sign autographs,be signed for, gather merchandise for yourselves etc and come back home richer with the experience and all!!!

Gor Mahia FC are set to host Brazilian giants Santos FC at the Kasarani Stadium on December 1 in yet another high-profile friendly for the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions.

According to Gor’s Secretary General Ben Omondi, Santos made the initial contact at the start of October through a formal enquiry addressed to the club Chairman Ambrose Rachier.

It could mark a third friendly with a non-African team for Gor who also hosted English Championship side Hull City in May at Kasarani and are set to play Premier League club Everton FC at Goodison Park on November 6.

In accepting the request from the Brasileiro giants, Rachier has constituted a team to work on the logistics including ticketing information and will soon issue a public update regarding the historic match.

“We are telling Kenyans to expect a big friendly never before staged in East Africa and this will be a good experience for our boys and for our fans,” Omondi told Ramogi FM.

Santos is the former club of PSG’s Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr and is one of the most successful clubs in the Brasileirao, becoming national champions on eight occasions.

The last time a Brazilian team was in Kenya was in 2009 when a select squad of former internationals from the South American state lost 1-0 to Harambee Stars during a charity tour organised by the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA).

In an earlier interview, Gor team manager Jolawi Obondo had indicated the club is expecting more friendlies against European sides after plans for a clash with another English championship side Bolton Wanderers next month fell through.

Sheffield Wednesday, where head coach Dylan Kerr started his senior playing career, and Reading for which the Englishman made 89 appearances for as well as Glasgow Rangers are among clubs likely to also play against Gor.

  • Ziko must emphasize on speed, resilience and agility before facing Everton. After beating Leicester and crystal palace in their last two league matches, those boys may humiliate the Kenyan champions. High fitness level and concentration will play a key role for Gor. As much as we are the underdogs but we must also prove to the world that we are the undefiable Kenyan football champions.
