Kevin Ochieng in action as Stars go down
This time there was one Kogalo player who saw action as Kenya took on Namibia in a 2014 World cup qualifier played in Windhoek Namibia. Kevin Ochieng was primarily deployed as a defensive midfielder as Stars coach Francis Kimanzi opted for a defensive unit packed with defensive midfielders including Collins Okoth and Victor Wanyama.
The tactic worked for 77 minutes as stars staved off attack after attack from the Namibians. The deadlock was finally broken when Henrico Boates beat Arnold Origi in the stars goal from close range. Namibia then held on to win 1-0.
Namibia with a population of less than 2 million has proven a tough nut to crack for Kenya. They have almost always beaten Kenya 1-0 both home and away. Stars are now bottom of the group.
Anyway I expected Kenya to lose by at least 2-0. The narrow 1-0 defeat shows that we defended well throughout the match. Kimanzi prepared the team with a defensive minded formation but he should also have thought on the attacking options which could be easily provide some speedy counter-attack options. Chelsea did very well with Di Mateo as coach, against BARCA and BAYERN.
If I was Kimanzi I could have opted for AFC -bound PAUL WERE to provide the counter attack instead of Kevin Ochieng or Nzomo. It’s high time also he should consider recalling Kevin Omondi of GOR , Stephen Waruru of ULINZI and Innocent Mutiso of KCB who are talented ball dribblers capable opening up defenders and providing killer/split passes to the strikers. I think FKF are pondering on hiring a foreign coach ,Kimanzi tenure will come to an end after he fails to make past TOGO for the AFCON qualifieand knock out stage and our world cup hopes are thrashed here at home against NIGERIA and NAMIBIA. All this is because of his bias selection of players , over relying on his overrated foreign based pro’s cum buddies. Why sideline Boony Oluoch from lineup after his sterling performance against Malawi and prefer Duncan Ochieng as the substitute instead. Can one lose form in a week.
and lack of fresh ideas. He behaves like he owns the national team as a personal property.
@pareyio – previous blog. u quoted me commenting on ur English. even though it (i believe)was a compliment, it was not from me. i will not take the credit for that… but to add that i do not mind who(tribe) heads gor. in short my friends come from all across kenya and it would be silly for me even to thnk that only luos must lead gor. i have in one of my earlier comments commented on my desire to see a NATIONAL gor.
having said that, our friendly team lost. yesterday i had someone on radio comment that there are only two weak teams in africa now. one is kenya and the other is somalia. i’m not here today to comment on kimanzi, i thnk his ability has been well discussed, my problem is what is TO BE DONE NOW before the whole UGALI BURNS. ok changing coach now can be a disaster but we are already heading there. my advice is same as before. get to africa thru’ the clubs. my best bet afc n gor. here it’s about gor… spend ur money on gor home matches, raise gor home matches to 500. forget the gor away matches. build gor coffers and see results. i am not out to punish the other clubs, pls note how football in kenya is already going nowhere… something has to change. the croat HAS A JOB TO DO…YAANI CUT OUT! i hope one good mid-fielder and striker can be found but this is no excuse for the coach. if he is as good as he claims then improve the gor game, the players he has can do the job.most of these countries rely on one or to clubs for their national teams. lets do it thru’ gor and we will not be asking why gor players are not in harambee stars, the harambee stars coach will be demanding. for the writer of this article, counting how many gor players that were in action does not help, right now its not about how many gor players are in harambee stars. pls take note that it’s our technical inabilty that is doing us in… the croat has started well, lets show thse fkl and team what gor can do…i’m demanding only the LEAGUE, e n central and a fight in the champions league. i believe this is one easy way of improving the kenya game, THROUGH GOR. way 2 – get those good coaches from elsewhere and change the structure of kenya football. only that this approach needs tons of money. i’m talking about youth structures , football academies etc. right now harambee course seems lost but i still wish them the best in the remaining matches. remember that this is the team that adidas wrote to not to continue wearing adidas apparels which it had earlier donated! is harambee stars that lousy?
Very aptly put @Okoth Jabilo. Kenya is back in its familiar terrirory: at the bottom of the table and will not make it past Togo. Chicken’s droppings (baba Jimmy et al, 2004)
Our brothers in Nairobi please confirm to the blog that the inter branches tournament scheduled for 10th June did not go ahead following the tragic events of this black Sunday.
The loss of our gallant leaders and heroic officers merited the last minute cancellation of this worthy K’Ogalo event. However, if at all it went ahead despite the calamity then I appeal to the EC to organise a friendly with perhaps Tusker or Ulinzi (since Ole Magelo vowed never to play us) in honour of these leaders and the fallen officers later in the year. The proceeds from the gate takings of that friendly should be shared among survivors of the departed. (Remember the humble gift of cattle as condolence from the Maasai to the American government after September 11?)
R.I.P. our heroes and heroine.
Guys i dont think Kimanzi is such a problem, i don’t think Kenya has zero chance the much we want to say it and wish the whole world to believe! There’s a time Kimanzi performed so well maybe he’ll do well with time. I wonder how we would others to treat us if we were in the same position..we would pray for more time. Let Kimanzi be given a right each of us deserve, a chance. Remember its the same craze of each game being a must win is and remains a wild ghost at K’ogalo. Its a horror we’ve courted and made a part of us to the extent that we feel players can only be bought at perfect form. Lets leave Kimanzi alone, Fkf must be man enough to support kimanzi and his team without bowing to pressure from wannabe coaches and reckless noise makers bent on public worship of whitemen. Kaanjuka of Namibia and keshi of Nigeria are local coaches and have won one nil respectively.
The real test will be against Nigeria both at Kasarani and in away, where they are used to beating us 3 goals for a very long time and I doubt if we’ve ever beaten Nigeria in recent past! I think unless Kenya goes away with attacking mentality we’ll never win any away match. Here is not a question of how many Gor Mahia players are fielded but how many points we’ve come back home with. Any Kenyan coach who is man enough should start winning away matches. Otherwise it may be too early to judge Kimanzi but I know we are climbing very fast in FIFA ranking because unlike Antony Hey,Twahih Muhidin & Zico, the Kimanzi I know avoids international friendlies but when you judge Ziko’s away record and Kimanzi’s then Ziko did well against Angola where we were robbed of goal by Keven Ochieng’ and against Uganda we really played well. We still have a great chance of qualifying for World cup and African Cup of Nations; let us not lose hope. The only difference between us and no. 1 are three points.
kimanzi is only playing sofa paka players so as to boost his job there and his old freinds no wonder results are bismal because he is serving other mastere, how do gattuso and jamal make it to any serious national team after giving themselves holidays for most of the season
all has been said.however, the puzzling issue here is,how was boniface oluoch not even on the bench against namibia after being named man of the match a week ago against malawi??…please somenone answer me!!!!
Tell us the truth.Has the coach deserted us? We are worried and the EC should be transparent and tell us the truth. This will help us identify another potential Coach in time before the start of the 2nd round of the league.Otherwise we shall find our self in the same as those witnessed during the start of the first round of the KPL league.
R.I.P PROF SAITOTI,ORWA OJODE, CAPTAINS LUKE OYUGI AND NANCY GATUANJA, INSPECTOR TONKEI AND JOSEPH MURIMI
Comrades,
Allow me to use this esteemed blog to convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and indeed Kenyans for the untimely demise of the above Kenyans through a helicopter crash at Kibiko area of Kajiado county.
The late Prof Saitoti have represented me in Parliament for the last two decades since 1988. I feel extremely proud to say that Kajiado North have made unprecedented strides in terms of development. He has helped open up new roads, built new schools, safe and clean water, dispensaries among others. On education, he has been in the forefront to advice the Maasai to embrace education.
Perhaps the single most thing Saitoti can be remembered for is his love for harmonious co-existence between different communities. Kajiado North is a relatively cosmopolitan and somehow he has managed to balance various competing interests. He died without ever declaring his ethnic identity. Maybe this has all along been his greatest weapon.
Nationally, we know for sure that Saitoti has served this great nation with distinction and loyalty. He holds a record as the longest serving vice president under president Moi.on march 18 , 2001 at Kasarani, when KANU merged with NDP, saitoti made this immortal words, ‘there comes a time when the nation is more important than an individual’. This was in reference to the way he was treated at the NDC by omitting his name on the list of candidates. On that day, a nationalist was born.
Going forward, we have alot to learn from the life and time of the late M.P. Yet again, death has robbed us very dedicated Kenyans. Where have gone wrong?
May the Almighty rest their souls in eternal peace.
I wish to pass my condolences to the family of Prof G Saitoti, Hon Orwa Ojode, 2 Helicopter crews and 2 bodyguards. May Almighty God rest their souls in eternal peace.
God has a plan for everyone and knows our fate in earth. We just need to love God with all our hearts and might for He is our keeper. With the little resouces at our dispals, we need to help mankind in all forms of assistance such in school fees, orphans, widows and poor at different points in needs as these vulnerables are always with us in the our daily walk. We have to touch the lives of mankind in all forms that will show our love to God, whom we do need but but man we see always.
@ Pareyio 09 it is my humble opportunity to join hands with you while our country is officially in a sombre mood and mourning not only your departed MP and our minister for internal security but also a national leader of his own standings , together with his able comrade and assistant minister who represented NDHIWA constituency that also happens to be the origin of our beloved GOR MAHIA f.c.
Honorable George Saitoti , Joshua Ojode, the Pilot, Co-Pilot and the two body guards meet their death in a very saddening, horrific and tragic plane crash in the wee hours of the morning barely less than an hour after separating with their loved ones.
As much as we have no where to appeal to as regards the untimely and painful death of my fellow kenyans i would like to convey my personal condolence, sorry and sympathy to their beloved families, friends, relative and constituents on behalf of myself, family and friends of this wonderful blog site namely http://www.gormahia.net .
I would also like to commend the effort Professor GEORGE had in helping promote football by giving financial support to OLE MAGELO that worked wonders to revamp the AFC LEOPARD club back top flight football. That was truly a gentleman attitude worth appreciating to us soccer lovers besides educating and promoting many KENYANS.
My almighty GOD rest your souls with eternal peace and give courage to your immediate depend ants during this difficult moment. AMEN.
Fare thee well Sirikal
Matters of football aside let the truth unfold as to why we had to experience this awe-inspiring experiencing and life-threatening socio-political and life threatening episodes at this time when we are facing security intimidating acts in our country based on the current economically and safety challenges within and without the our own borders.
@Pareyio 09 I stand to be counted just like MWAKIO and OKOTH JABILO that I am saddened and equally bluffed by the unfolding events that has happened to our hero’s in the current government! WHY THEM and WHY IN SUCH A MANNER?
Surely this was my black Sunday? Is an act of NATURE? OR GOD? OR MAN MADE HUMAN ERROR OR SATANIC POLITICAL COMPETiTION TRYING TO SETTLE SOME POLITICAL SCORES? Time will tell otherwise my condolences to all and sundry!
And I reckon “There comes a time when a country is much more important than an individual” and lest I forget ” Al shabab is just like a snake whose head is in EASTLEIGH and the tail is in KISMAYU” REST IN PEACE “PROFESSOR GEORGE and OJODE SIRKAL. We for ever remember YOU guys as the best partners in grand coalition government under then stewardship of his excellency OBAKO and the right honorable PM.
Sorry for the users name @ post 12.It’s none other than OGANGO TRAILER! My heart felt condolences to KENYANS at large and sympathy to the bereaved family. It’s very saddening to lose a minister and his deputy in such a manner! Please GOD forgive us KENYANS!
How about the pilot and body guards…or are they lesser kenyans?
@Opuk Raronge please refer to my comment at post 3.
There is a dearth of talent in kenya right now. If players like Mieno and Jamal are our best hope now then Kenya is in trouble
