KPL coaches conspired to deny Sserunkuma

Gor Mahia striker Dan Sserunkuma had a phenomenal season in which he finished atop the Tusker premier league scorers chart with 16 goals. He was consistent throughout the season and when he was not scoring goals, he was setting up his strike partners with scoring chances. It stands to reason that he would be considered among the candidates for the player of the year , a title he won in 2012.

Sserunkuma at the awards ceremony of 2012

When the list of nominees came out however, Sserunkuma was not even listed among the candidates. A report on goal.com suggests that some coaches conspired to lock out the Ugandan talisman apparently because of what they called “the controversial nature of his goals”

“He (Sserunkuma) may have emerged top scorer but we also looked at how some of the goals were scored. Out of 16 goals, he scored three penalties and in our opinion some were not genuine. Furthermore, we felt that some of the goals he scored were from off-side position. If referees did not see it, we did and took note.” said a coach who sought to remain anonymous.

These kind of wild claims are reminiscent of Chemelil coach Mike Mururi who claimed that Gor Mahia wins because they get help from referees. At this rate it would have not come as a shocker if they gave the golden boot award to someone else.

Sserunkuma and his team-mate Goeffrey Kizito did not attend the ceremony as they were away with the Ugandan national team which was attempting to qualify for the Africa cup of nations. Unfortunately there was further disappointment as the Cranes once again fell short at the last hurdle.

Gor Mahia must find accommodation for Frank Nuttall

Frank Nuttall is away in Scotland for a 6 week holiday. The Scottish coach has been living in a hotel since his arrival in Kenya. The house he is supposed to occupy is still being occupied by former coach Bobby Williamson while Nuttall’s hotel bill is paid by the FKF.Williamson for his part cannot move because the house he is supposed to occupy is still occupied by former coach Adel Amrouche. Its is a mess at FKF.

However reports suggest that Nuttall is tired of hotel life and says  he will not live in a hotel when he returns.

“Nuttall has made it clear that he does not want to stay in a hotel when he comes back. It is a tricky situation for us because we cannot evict Williamson.” said a Gor Mahia official.

I think everyone agrees that the whole process was shambolic and it’s a good lesson for us to improve it future by expanding the selection panel to include other stake holders. Not only Danny’s non-selection which was controversial but also Walusimbi’s as well as Timbe’s.
But that is now water under the bridge and we should look into the future as Gor.

To me he is Dan ” Flava” Sserunkuma.
What I admire most about “Flava” is the quiet way he handles such controversies.
He remains unshaken and goes on about his job with amazing humility. Remember:
    1) The transfer saga last year which he overcame by scoring crucial goals that won us the league especially against Sofapaka.
    2) Not a “favourite” of ex-coach BW who is even on record saying that he preferred Timothy Otieno who is a harding working player but “Flava” put all these behind him and kept on pumping in the goals for us.
To me his is “Flava” because not only does he bring flavour to Gor Mahia with his sublime & crucial goals but also with his focused unassuming and humble character.
    Thank-you Ssebo.

Interesting logic. If we use it then since CR7 scores many of his goals from penalties, some of which he wins himself after “diving” (other pple’s opinion not that of the Ref. of the day), he should not b short listed 4 the FIFA awards.

    Re Pmawego & GM Sacco.

If you truly believe what you have written & I quote ” Sustainability is the key to any project you start. My solution to this problem is that we should sit down and develop the Gor brand to a bigger level, rid off Gor of hooligans and attract a minimum of 30,000 for every Gor home matches (they are a minimum of 18 home matches in a season and assume home matches are played at Kasarani or Nyayo). This coupled with strict financial accountability at the EC will net us at least Kshs 10m per match.

Now kshs.10M per match for 18 games means gross gate collections of kshs.180/season for TPL matches alone. Given the current scenario means GOR MAHIA WILL PAY 50% STATUTORY DEDUCTIONS / STADIUM HIRE FEE I.E KSHS.90M PER SEASON.

IF WE MOBILIZE 12,000 MEMBERS AND FORM A SACCO GENERATING KSHS.72M PER YEAR WE CAN BUY LAND AND BUILD A STADIUM FOR GOR MAHIA CLUB. I HAD SUGGESTED EARLIER THAT SINCE THE CLUB IS ALREADY PAYING 50% OF ITS GATE COLLECTIONS FOR HIRING THE STADIUM THE GM SACCO CAN CHARGE GOR MAHIA MAYBE 30% OF ITS GATE COLLECTIONS.

****NOW PMAWEGO 30% OF KSHS.90M IS KSHS.27M. DIRECT INCOME TO THE SACCO FROM ONLY ONE REVENUE LINE.

****MR. PMAWEGO KSHS.27M/KSHS.72M (OUR CONTRIBUTION COLLECTIVELY PER YEAR) = A RETURN OF 30% SIR ON ONE REVENUE SOURCE ALONE.
PMAWEGO IF THIS REVENUE TOGETHER WITH OTHER INCOME FROM OTHER SOURCES DOES NOT TRICKLE DOWN TO YOU & ME THAN THAT IS DUE TO MISMANAGEMENT OF OUR SACCO.
GETTING RID OF HOOLIGANISM WILL BE SIMPLIFIED SINCE GM SACCO MEMBERS CAN BE MORE EASILY INDENTIFIED AND GIVEN SPECIAL (PRIVILEGED) SEATING ZONES.

    2) Regarding your concern,
“On the issue of Sacco, I beg to ask one question? How will this sacco be of beneficial to the members. Can someone (Oduori 12 et al.) list down a few benefits of the Sacco to me as a contributor so that we can have a meaningful engagement on this issue. My take is that whatever a human being does must have a benefit to him/her.”

Pmawego please refer to my post of “• ODUOR12 posted on November 2, 2014” where I attempted to answer yours queries and apparently thought I had allayed your negative feelings about the GM Sacco / Cooperative.

****ALL THAT IS REQUIRED IS ADHERING TO THE SIMPLE PRINCIPLE OF ENSURING THE YOUR EXPENSES DON’T EXCEED YOUR REVENUES AND DIVIDENDS WILL NATURALLY FOLLOW.

****ATTACH TANGIBLE BENEFITS TO GM MEMBERSHIP AND YOU WILL SEE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE UPTAKE OF MEMBERSHIP. MEMBERSHIP WILL BE A RESPECTABLE % OF THE CROWDS THAT ATTEND MATCHES.

@Oduor12 – Just rename the whole thing to Gor Mahia Chama or Welfare Society or something like that. What you have described up there is not what is ordinarily known as a SACCO.

12,000 chama members contributing Kshs 500 per month for one year cannot even build a proper playing surface of a stadium. What about players salaries etc. Will you borrow a loan to fund this stadium? I don’t have estimated figures of building a 20,000 capacity stadium or one like Machakos but I still believe it is quite high. Meanwhile, do not misunderstand me on this issue. I would like to go by your SACCO idea, it is only that you have not convinced me and your numbers still don’t make sense to me.

Guys , the following needs to be done :

    – Gor Mahia to be an Investment ltd company which becomes the holding company , then underneath the following will be registered :

    – Gor Mahia Foundation
    – Gor Mahia Cooperative ltd

NB : The BIG issue is the submission of TAX returns in future so the names have to be carefully chosen .

I wish the Executive Committe could have a FORUM on some of the IDEAS we float on this walls ….

Reigning Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia have lined up a swoop for one of Tusker FC’s goalkeepers.

A source doing the scouting has revealed that the 14 time local champions are after either Kenyan international Bonface Oluoch or Captain Samuel Abawa Odhiambo.

    Professional outfit

-We are preparing for a big stage at the continentals hence need strong departments therefore are considering roping in either Bonny (Bonface Oluoch) or Abawa (Samuel Odhiambo). These are experienced custodians who can add value to our club, the source told futaa.com

-Four goalkeepers’ suits a professional outfit since the management might loan out one. It will also be good for a health competition in between the sticks.

    24 appearances

Odhiambo made 24 league appearances; conceded 20 goals and kept only eight clean sheets while Oluoch only played on one occasion – the last league game against Sofapaka FC.

Oluoch has been a Gor Mahia target for some time now.

@Pmawego 12,000 Sacco members contributing kshs.500 per month will raise for Gor Mahia kshs.6M per month or Kshs.72M per annum- Nothing to sneeze about!
Don’t be blinded or cynical about the kshs.500 per member/month look at its MULTIPLIER EFFECT MY BROTHER.

I REPEAT IF YOU TRULY BELIEVE GOR MAHIA CLUB CAN ATTRACT 30,000 PAYING FANS FOR EACH OF ITS HOME GAMES THEN SURELY THE CLUB CAN GET 12,000 SACCO MEMBERS CONTRIBUTING KSHS.500/MONTH. ALOT MOCHA EMA TIEKO KUON!

This is not the kind of money you want to entrust to an amporhous welfare society or a chama whereby you cannot hold officials accountable for their actions like in the past/current situation.
We need the strong structures of a sacco/cooperative to move Gor Mahia forward. I will be giving small extracts of CAP 490 (Cooperatives Act) illustrate this.
Fellow bloggers these provisions are really strong.

Pmawego remember a certain blogger Ambrose (hopefully not Jakom Rachier) and his Goldenberg/Anglo leasing estimates of Kshs.1billion to buy land & build a stadium.

Well here is what Gov. Kidero had to say about renovating City Stadium which is inclusive of a new playing surface.

Standard Digital Report by:By – Gilbert Wandera
    Updated Thursday, May 22nd 2014 at 00:00 GMT +3
Nairobi City Stadium will be renovated at a cost of Sh87 million.

The country’s oldest stadium is set to be closed from July for the renovations, according to Governor Evans Kidero.

Kidero revealed the county government has partnered with a major donor whom he did not name to undertake the upgrade that promises to turn around a facility that has been neglected for a long time.

“I can confirm that we have finalised plans to renovate this stadium with the donor contributing a significant amount of the required money and the county government topping up the rest to the tune of Sh87 million,” he said.

Kidero revealed that under the planned renovation, new terraces will be built as well dressing rooms and parking and a new turf to replace the already worn-out one that was laid down by world body Fifa.

Machakos stadium renovations costs were about kshs.10M. And that was from and I quote ” an empty dry piece of land to what is there now in a record 6 weeks”

Pmawego I await your opinion on Gor Mahia paying kshs.90M as statutory deductions/stadium hire fees year in year out. Please respond Sir as it is from your own estimates of GM raising kshs.10M per match for 18 home games.

Brother Oduor12. I see how easy you can be fooled. When you hear a section of the EC announcing that 50% of the collection goes to statutory/stadia management, please take it as a ploy to swindle the gate collection. They are simply justifying why they are broke but forgetting to let you know that the 50% is in their pockets. The money they pay is far much lower than what they announce. The money they collect from the gate is far much higher than what they announce to you.

On Kidero’s statement, he has categorically said that the money US$1m to be precise) is for renovations and not to build new stadium. For your information, the renovation he talked about seems to be putting the new astrotuff surface, which was done some time back. In Machakos, Mutua welded some metals and put them as stands. For your information, Machakos stadium is the most unsafe stadium to watch matches because those metals can cave in under pressure. Secondly, each stand has only 2 exits and in case a teargas is thrown in any stand, people will die when trying to use the two exits at the same time. Is that the kind of stadium you want to build.

Lastly, I want you to spend more time convincing me and others that this is a worthy cause. You are spending a good chunk of your time and space fighting instead of playing the diplomacy game. I am already converted, I just want the numbers to add up which at this point I can confirm to you that they are not. Before I close, stop calling us bloggers. Get another term because a number of people here including me are better than that description.

1)Fooled? Nay just helpless given that the reality is that the Societies Act under which Gor Mahia Club is administered allows the ills mentioned above.Under this Act THERE IS NOTHING ANYONE CAN DO ABOUT THESE ILLS EXCEPT SEEK REDRESS THE K’GALO WAY IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
    2) 1 USD=KSHS.90.14 AT TODAYS EXCHANGE RATE AND KIDERO SAYS “under the planned renovation, new terraces will be built as well dressing rooms and parking and a new turf to replace the already worn-out one that was laid down by world body Fifa.”
YOU’VE BEEN TO TOKOWANDA THIS ESSENTIALLY MEANS REBUILDING THE STADIUM.
A NEW FACILITY WILL COST HOW MUCH? DOUBLE, TRIPLE EVEN FIVE TIMES THIS ESTIMATE. STILL AFFORDABLE WITH A SACCO AND QUITE EASILY WITH ATTENDANCES OF 30,000 PER HOME MATCH.
    3)FIGHTING WHO’S FIGHTING???
4)WHAT’S IN A NAME? Blogger(person), a person who writes a blog, or web log. A blog (a truncation of the expression weblog)[1] is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web.
    HOORAY
For many, it was disbelief. A few managed to get excited. Then it was ululation wololo wololo uulala points no.1-4 are irrelevant, immaterial I may add.
WHAT’S IMPORTANT IS THIS AND ONLY THIS STATEMENT “I am already converted”.
ANOTHER GM SACCO MEMBER I’M OFF TO CELEBRATE.
