KPL Top 8: Kogalo sink Mathare

In  a well attended midweek match, Gor Mahia comprehensively outplayed the slum boys aka Mathare United to beat them 2-0 and sail into the semis of the newly inaugurated KPL top 8.

A power blackout delayed the match for more than half an hour as fans waited calmly for the power to be restored. After a quiet first half Kogalo went on the attack. 20 minutes into the half, Tony Onyango latched onto a loose ball to score the first goal.

The second goal came via a counter attack. The speedy Edwin Lavatsa made one of menacing runs and was fouled by a Mathare defender. Collins Okoth stepped up to take the resulting penalty and converted for a 2-0 score.

The winner of the all-expenses paid tournament by the KPL will ultimately win a cash prize of Sh1 million. Teams participating are those that finished in the top eight positions in last year’s Premiership.

  • Wonderful, quite enjoyable, tighten up on finishing especially following up on loose balls at the opponents penalty area (Remember Abdalla Shebe & Hesbon Omollo).Zico jana ua imput as coach was evident unlike in the past one could see a pattern and tactical approach in Gor’s style. • Happy with kogalo winning but we need to sharpen the striking force and make them even sharper this am saying because we create alot of chances upfront.what am trying ton say is that its a beauty to see kogalo build up an attack and frustrating to see it go begging i agree with a follower who talked about a striking trio of Lavatsa, owiti and Kitawi i wish zico could look at what he can do with the three youngstars in the field at the same time.Kogalo mambo bado i dont think we are have reached our best yet Zico has still got a handful to work on and being the coach he is i know he is aware of that.

Sisemi kitu but the game was so entertaining, all those that played were fine and we should now concentrate on league this season. We still have a chance to be the best team this season. Congrats Kogalo and more so Ziko the coach.

Bravo to the youthful team. BTW Should Jerry rest 4 at least 2 matches 2 give Ronny and Gradus a chance? I feel Jerry is overworked.

Yes Oti, what are the other keepers for; they hardly feature for the team in competitive matches? why bwana Zico? Otherwise weldone for sinking Mathare.

  • I just think th@ Gor seriously need to improve on dribbling the ball. last year they came close to winning the league cup becoz of the dribbling skills of C Wekesa and black berry and others too. so they have to really improve on th@ coz dribbling open up the game. so all players must learn th@. then passing the ball will just become effective coz of dribbling
