Late Penalty sinks Sharks

A 92nd minute penalty converted by Dan Sserunkuma enabled Gor Mahia to edge second tier side Kariobangi Sharks 1-0.

The first half was evenly balanced as Kariobangi gave as much as they received. They kept Zachary Onyango busy in the Gor Mahia goal. Samuel Murungi was twice denied by Onyango. The first was a swerving freekick which Onyango punched over the bar. Full back Yusuf Juma responded with a similar effort in the 24th minute which was saved by the Sharks goalkeeper.

In the second half, coach Logarusic made 8 changes. Gor Mahia started to pressure the Sharks goal but the Sharks defenders held them back. In the 92nd minute, a cross from Innocent Mutiso was handled by a Sharks defender causing the referee to point to the spot. Dan Ssserunkuma stepped up to convert the penalty and clinch a win for Gor Mahia.

All in all, it was not a performance that will inspire the confidence of Kogalo fans especially with only one week left before the start of the league and the start of the CAF cup. However it is worth noting that Gor Mahia fielded an experimental side.

Gor Mahia will next play Posta Rangers in a midweek friendly

  • It’s better to struggle now in scoring but do it in the CAF matches. The problem is when we beat such teams by good margins only to fall short at the hour of need. I still believe that we will make it past the first round but all the same we need more depth at the striking department. Loga and Sec Gem promised us a lethal front man before the transfer season ended but nothing materialises. Locally we also lack strikers as a country. Anyway we will be there for the team and do what we do best

ingo , this team has so much that u cant avoid it, and u know why? cause this is the only team in the region, 1987, the mighty KOGALO, it pains you that u will never achieve that, hence ua hatred and sarcasm.

Abok, 1987 is when the python Omweri appeared on the scene. The entire team slept at the home where Omweri and her eggs were in Nyanza for good luck.Ploiticians from the area said that the nyoka should not be touched if the community wanted a bamper harvest…..Bila JUJU Gor hawashindi Kitu. That is why the team is vying for the Omweri cup this year

  • Abok,

the man GOR who the team was named after was a JUJU man…below is an except from wikipedis

…”The club is steeped in Luo legends and mythology. Gor wuod Ogada nyakwar Ogalo (Gor son of Ogada grandson of Ogalo) was a medicine man from Homa Bay, Nyanza Province who was believed to possess mystical powers…” Hi ni team ya majuju kutoka siku za kale

I watched the match and I can confirm that our players fitness, morale and coordination lacked in the entire match. Sharks were the better team possession wise, shorts on target, creativity , ball control and accuracy in finished passes.

I do not know how we recruit , but I spotted like six wonderful players in the sharks squad that has been raided to the last man in concluded transfer period. Unless loga and Bobby out this guys in a weeks residential camp with serious business, am worried GOR might just embarrass us again. Let us be truthful to ourself. Tuko Chini SANAAA!!!!!!!

I think that the team is good and we will see that when we shall play tusker on Dstv supercup on sato. Let as not be like arsenal fans or chelsea funs.It is a well known fact everywhere that lower tier team normally give big teams problem and it has always been evident when Gor is playing small teams just like muhoroni and oserian last season. The fact that we could not give sharks a thorough beating doesnot mean that the team is bad. If you are not a k’Ogalo fan then you should be in a possition to know

that every team wants to beat Gor. Let us not be the fans and at the same time we want the team to be beaten as I wittnessed from a section of fans at tok komwanda when we were playing sharks. Some of us who do not like Loga are also of the opinion that TOM OGWENO TO find a way in which Gor will be beaten 4 consecutive times so that loga can be sacked. What a shame of those who think that they are more k’ogalo than others.U must not get things going your way all the time as a k’ogalo fan.

That Ogweno they love so much have not declare his love for K’ogalo bcos I Know that at one he did say that he cant play for a team like gor and when he joined gor he joined as an employee but not because he loves this great club. There are people in other clubs who do not shy from declearing there love for k’ogalo. Pple’ like pamzo , bob mugalia & others but some of our great sons who r good players dont want this team.

Administrator of the blog kindly save us from the kind of crap in posts 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7. It is in the interest of Gor Mahia that you must just act and I know it is within your ability to do something.

@Okoth Jabilo you are damn right. I would like coach Logarusic to state his take regarding the marginal and below average performance that the team is posting lately. Do the boys need to take some swimming or water sports?

To the Tom Ogmeno protagonists please that is not the course to take. If anyone wants coach Logarusic out then they should convince us they have a better replacement who most certainly cannot be Tom Ogweno. I hope I am wrong but I have a feeling that soon there will be talk of camps and sabotuers. Now that kind of thing will only take us down the path that is so familiar: a path that has always ended in chaos and disappointment.

It is evident that our head coach is a man who relies on the finished product and cannot develop talent in the manner of Siang’a, David Otti or Len Julians, but then he has his own very unique strengths and that is what we should focus on at this time. Let us weigh seriously the consequences of replacing the Technical Bench at this time. I fear we do that and we shall sink much deeper than we were at around this time last year.

I Agree with barefoot totally. I think this blog is for gor mahia fans who are only willing to give possitive criticism but those who hate gor and the adm. of this blog should review comments before posting. we love this team but any attempt to change the TB will only sink this team and the Ogweno protagonist will not gain anything bcoz Ogweno will not be back at all.

@ 1 Dan – you are right. It is less painful losing in a friendly match than actual match.

@ 2,3,6 & 7 ingo – I think you could be wasting your time in this blog since I’ve monitored your postings (about 3 times and seen you are AFC Leopards fan, which is not wrong at all. As such, this GM blog will not help you since you are just a spy or a spoiler

@ 4 Irichiryinduvatiru – in several postings you’ve been talking about Jabrazil (Giovanni). Do you think he is better than all these players we have? you have been mentioning about AFC Leopards whereas this blog is meant for GM, so kindly cross over to AFC side since they equally have a site or facebook and you are welcome there to give them your ‘good’ ideas.

@ 8 OKOTH JABILO – I agree with you we approached the match too casually and seriousness was lacking throughout. However, judging by the Charity cup, this current squad we have is very good. Only combination is still not working.

@ michael odhiambo ogolo 9 – I agree with you the team is good but we’ll judge with our match against Tusker FC

@ Barefoot no.13 – let the admin give these pple chance to comment but if surely we realize they are not GM fans then we dont need their advice

Could the problem be the attacking midfield??

Anyway Charity Cup was the 1st wake up call and this is the 2nd.

I hope we get it right in time.

Wakina @2,3,4 we should respect ua opinions, but it can’t be because you don’t respect ua postings. Concerning our current form, please let us be patient. We have not started competition matches exept the charity cup. You have only judged from friendly matches. Know that friendlies of this kind r approached in a euniqe way by coaches. The aim not only to win. Some coaches also dont like exposing their real tactics in pre season friendlies bcoz arch-rivals r also watching those matches. GOOD LUCK KOGALO!!!
