Logarusic exudes confidence of continental glory

Droves of fans showed up at the airport to meet the team in a scene reminiscent of January 1985 when Kogalo returned from a glorious CECAFA cup campaign but on a smaller scale.

Following Gor Mahia’s empahtic away win over Anse ReUnion, coach Zdvarko Logarusic is now expressing confidence that the team can regain the continetal form of past years.

‘Did you ever doubt we will not win,’’ he asked. ‘’We are now thinking of the title,’’ he added.

‘’Of Course winning the title will not be easy but take it from me, Gor Mahia will be a contender,’’ he told the Daily Nation.

Gor Mahia seemed to have lost their scoring touch after being held to scoreless draws in two succesive matches. But they found it in sensational fashion. Mungai Kiongera pried opened the Seychellois defense as early as the 1st minute and immediately broke the dam allowing an avalanche of goals to flow through.

“The way we played clearly shows the team has fully matured and we can take on any team in the continent,”said Logarusic to the Nation.

It marks the highest scoreline that any kenyan team has ever recorded in a continental event and bodes well for the potential success of this team.

Some may say that the win is not noteworthy because Seychelles is not a footballing powerhouse. However the scoreline shows that Kogalo are back in business. And it is just in time because the next opponents will not be a walk in the park. Up next will be Egypt’s representatives , ENPPI. Egyptian teams are always a tough nut to crack. In at least seven encounters pitting Kenyan teams against Egyptian teams, only Sofapaka have succeeded in winning, when they beat Ismailia in 2010.

The 1st round 1st leg is on March 15 in Egypt so Kogalo have a limited time to prepare for a tough away encounter. Seeing that the bumpy surface at Nyayo stadium does not suit Gor Mahia’s short passing play, I would urge them to consider Kasarani instead.

We will make it. This team can really go far.

Get it from me that as long as we are not conceding very easy goals we will go far. the squad looks ok except we need one more speedy attacking midfielder.

  • With good preparations i’m certain we shall beat the egyptians. Remember since the fall of Mubarak Egyptian teams have not been doing well in the continental matches. We should be worry of their hooliganism especially in their country
