Logarusic: It was unexpected

Courtesy of futaa.com

Gor Mahia Head Coach Zdravko Logarusic says the team did not expect to drop points in their match against Thika United on Saturday 10 November 2012.

Gor Mahia shared spoils with Thika United in a one-all draw at the City Stadium on Saturday 10 November at the City Stadium.

Hard Work

-We were prepared to take the maximum points and win the league title but the final results disappointed us, Logarusic said.

-My players really worked hard and winning the title would have been the best payback. Anyway that is football, very unpredictable, he added.

Tusker thrashed Nairobi City Stars 3-0 at the Hope Center on the same day to retain the Tusker Premier League title.

Logarusic I hope you will stay one more season to consolidate the team. Remember we are still unbeaten in over 20 matches, we are only victims of our poor run in the first half of the league where we lost to the likes of muhoroni youth, oserian e.t.c . nevertheless, we need to release some players and buy more players with east african exposure………lets use the upcoming CECAFA to boost our squad particularly the central defence, defensive midfielder, a creative midfielder and two natural strikers.

  • I am thrilled at Loga’s response to the Saturday’s result. It is encouraging and i think it would be very important to hing on his words. The team worked hard but he concludes that”that is football” In this way one can easily manage disappointment instead of going into a stress mode. I was really hurt but i encouraged myself by looking back at where we came from to fight in the final battle. Let us lift ourselves and live to fight another day. Kudos to the Team and to the Fans.

Dear brothers and sisters, we lost, we fought a good fight but in the end God has the final say.. The pressure was so high on our players, it was so evident.. Anyway we’ll fight another day.

I’d like to take this opportunity to condemn in the strongest terms those of us who caused chaos, killing innocent kenyans including an infant, vandalising vehicles….. They have tarnished our name further… guys here in the office are on my neck calling us all manner of names…

I am proposing that we form an anti hooliganism squad.. we see you throwing stones, we descend on you like bees… its time we took matters into our own hands

logger; recruit from wider e and central if possible. right now the calibre of kenya players is becoming questionable! even breweries will not go far with that squad. they are now claiming they are eyeing africa but it’s all for show. i guarantee no further than second round then we will be back to the same excuses. simba, el meriek, yanga etc are going for very good players. but this needs money. gor can get money but the LEACH in gor’s back will never let go. this leach is called hooligan. sponsors will keep shying away when they see characters like JARO soldier and the likes. the russian side is a bang smoking haven. but my blame is going still to EC , what have you ever done to educate these gorrillas who call themselves fans. these characters need to be denied entry into the stadium. one way is to increase the gate fees. let me put it simply; any which way that you try to remedy this situation, gor will loose money. so why are you waiting. start early and let it be seen. be warned that one day gor players will be targeted in an hostile area simply because of hatred generated by these so called fans. gor must top bang smoking in it’s matches even if it means that the match is postponed. go even to the point of playing on empty stadia on request. you will for-go money but u will be sending a loud messg. you must show the hooligans you do not need blood money. but unfortunatly EC simply gets into ectasy with the gate collection money that and simply ignores the blood that is coming with it. but for how long BEFORE THE REAL TRAGEDY HITS GOR!

@dinga, as much as I would like to agree with you on the bang smokers, your accusation on the EC is misguided. Is it written on some people faces that they are bang smoker. Kindly tell some of us how the bang smokers can be stopped from accessing the stadium. To me I think its the fans themselves who need to police one another. Simply don’t allow any bang smoker next to you. The EC can only succeed if they introduce “bang detectors” at the gates if at all such gadgets do exist. Otherwise your blames on EC are baseless.

Its very sad we drew the match and lost the trophy i’am now encouraged to realize it was just a game of football.

On the Bhang’ smokers and smoking, i have the following to say.

    1. The EC as the leadership should give a notice to these good for nothing adults and persuade the GM fans attending the matches not to help them in resisting arrests by the police.

    2. After the notice fans should help the police in identifying the smokers for timely arrest by the police.

I believe the two steps are enough to eradicate GM matches of Bhang and Bhang smokers/smoking.

On Hooligans banging vehicles, its even more simple. The EC as leadership should simple hire plain clothes Police men to walk with fans after two or three matches with an aim to arrest them. Again we fans should not protect the hooligans from arrest.
The end of these vices shall have been defined without much hoola baloo

    2.

this is simply done by getting cameras on a prev match. all hooligans and smokers can be identified thru’ cameras. i don’t thnk identifying such ppl is a problem if you put the effort. hooligans and bhang smokers are well known. concentrate cameras on them and get their faces. try it out first. russia side is a bhang zone so fan policing is simply asking for trouble, take pictures and play the nxt game on an empty stadium. gor will be sending the mssg. i suggest that supersport be brought on board to help. employ anti-riot on the russia side with very specific instructions on bhang smoking. the bottom line is that it will cost money but it’s worth it. all i can say is that if the EC wants to get rid of such vices and hooligans they can, alternatively is to go to the press and deny that it’s not gor mahia’s fault. in europe clubs are held responsible for racial chants, the clubs know how to deal with such characters.

    hi ding,

Some interesting points you have raised.

We have a problem in understanding and looking at ways of managing hooliganism in Kenya.

    1. Cops should be trained in managing football crowds…throwing teargas to fans in the stadium is unacceptable as this assumes that everyone is a hooligan and only offers the enemies of football an opportunity to create chaos

    2. We have thugs who like taking advantage of confusion to benefit themselves… after the draw yesterday 95% of the fans went home sad…

    3. Cops need to arrest thugs mascarading as GOR fans…we are yet to hear anyone been arrested for this acts of hooliganisms.

    4. Leave Jaro alone… these guys entertain us in the stadium and they form part of the GOR community. We can use the likes of JARO to educate some of the unruly people to style up

    5. Kudo to the players, EC and the technical bench… Let’s focus on the FKF cup and next year.

Hi Guys I was heart broken when we drew the game…Perhaps it away GOD means to speak to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Bang smoking is really bad some bang smoking almost confronted me in one of our matches at Kasarani when I asked him why he thought it was great smoking weeds in the stadium….We will get over it for sure.We have to hire police dogs to sniff and smoke them out before entering stadium and announce in advance what awaits the trouble makers in the name of fans.Surely why bang someones car for GOD’s Sake?Oh!!!!!!!
Otherwise lets live to fight another day

  • Regarding hooliganism and bang smoking in the stadium it is very simple to stamp out. Before every much and before teams get onto the pitch to stretch take people through different topics on good sportsmanship, sponsorship, negative and positive impacts any related subject. We know that some us of us have the privilege of attending seminars and conferences at the office and other place that address these issues. This will reach out to many people. Take these supporters as professionals and I promise you, you will see good results.Condemnation is not the answer it is simply a reaction to a problem. The latter is what we must address. Professionals in different relevant fields are there to help solve this situation. Do not ignore this please try it. I Love the Club and we can not allow image to be marred with things that can be changed.

Why did Lugarasic abandon the players after the match. A good coach does not do what he did. I liked what Sir Bobby did. He entered the field and was seen consoling the boys. That was a sign of a very good sportsman. Lugarasic even went ahead throwing his note book/files. I think that was a very bad gesture. I think the boys needed everybody’s support than ever at that moment. In my opinion, Lugarasic’ behavior was not different from some hooligans we are condemning here. He needs to style up.

We lost the match because our boys could not withstand the pressure and expectation and Thika United came with one mission – to spoil and work out ways for Tusker FC. After all what was Thika United going to gain directly by denying us an opportunity to lift the trophy yet they already qualified for the top 8?

Next season – we have to start winning on day one of the TPL so that we dont wait for the final day to determine as we did in 2010 and 2012; these boys cannot deliver under pressure and you saw it clearly from goal-keeper and defense how they were shacky yet we’ve never had any problems in these departments.

Still I feel when the Thika goal keeper held Rama Salim’s feet that could have been a penault and a yellow-card but it went on like business as usual.

On the substitutions I think Mr. Lugarisic could have retained Abondo especially when Thika started defending since we needed one man who is accurate in long shots like Abondo and Anguyo…but all thesea re just wishfull thinking as we are now left with replica trophy and have given out actual.

To the coach and technical bench – you’ve done as proud; to players, EC and fans we say thank you let us take it easy.

True Gor fans..went home sad. We have not recovered. It will take time to come to terms with this.

Those who create mayhem are hired thugs to tarnish our name.

We have been peaceful all along. No to hooligans. Let them be jailed.

We left stadium in a very peaceful procession….but later on I was told that some thugs with pangas masquerading as fans caused mayhem along Jogoo Road.

This is regrettable and such thugs should be identified and arrested. Let the legal due process take its precedent. Who were these that were carrying pangas? The residents of Kaloleni and surrounding suburbs should come out to help the police.

I think these could be common thugs known in these residential areas.

You will never explain to Kenyans to an extent of believing that you guys don’t behave in an hooliganic manner. What answers can you give for this??
1.Its only when Gor is defeated when chaos arise. Is it a must that you win in all matches across all competitions??
2.How can thugs appear only in Gor’s Jazzes??(are Gor fans thugs??)

We thank God for the far He has taken Gor Mahia. Let us return all Glories, Honours, Thanksgivings and Praises to our Heavenly Father in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen

    Tense PLayers
It was a great day and we thank God for everything. Just as it happens sometimes in many football matches, our goalkeeper let in the simple goal. Our players were looking tense throughout the game and this could have been attributed to the scare of the site of KPL trophy.

Fantastic Fans and Kudos to Fans
Meanwhile I wish to congratulate our fans that were fantastic during the day and I believe we need to give such kind of support no matter the circumstances. Fans made us proud and next year let us target attendance of 20,000 fans plus. City Stadium will be too small to contain the green army.

Let us count our losses and move on,currently we need to think about our next game at the weekend,so we must prepare ourselves mentally before that game,my prayer is that we work hard to motivate the players, technical bench so that they do not lose focus since the game is equally important, and as it stands now we do not have control over Saturday result,it is a bygone.

@Mwakio… i think u have just gotten it… The info am getting is that those were not real Gor fans but hired goons…

I think that someone is playing politics..

    1. Match ended at 5pm yet violence started at about 7pm
    2. When the game ended all fans left the stadium in a peaceful way… funny enough there was a group that remained inside. They were mainly on the terraces

Revelations are that there were goons that were hired. Their entry into the stadium was also paid for. The plan was, in case Gor won then they were to over-celebrate to provoke the police and in the end cause chaos.. Plan B was that if Gor lost then they would cause mayhem… Ofcause we all know their intention was to spoil our name and the name of Raila and ODM.

Remember ‘Destroyer’? The guy was also hired to maligne our community.

I dont know how we are going to solve this, coz clearly there are politicians who are out to do whatever it takes to fight RAO… Whatever the case we should not just sit back and watch… I stand to be counted as a volunteer member of the ‘Anti Hoologanism Squad’.. who else is in

Dinga I respect your comment but I don;t agree with you 100/100 concerning fans on the russia side of the the stadium.I am against hooliganism at all cost and even suport the ban on Gor matches to bring sanity if that is the case to stop this madness because stoning of motorists who have nothing to do with our loss or success is uncceptable but are u sure that they come from russia side? Iam a regular fan of Gor who sits in the russia side but we are very responsibe people even if they raise the gate charges to 500 we will still come. What am against is generalising tha the other fans are hooligans merely because one can afford the luxury of paying 500 which offcause is affordable to most fans only that we cannot all be accommodated in the main stand. My advise to fellow fans: please keep off u are tarnishing our already bad image.Police should have arrested these thugs long ago unless it is political machination to undermine a presidential candidate we cannot rule out that either.I am very diappointed on that saturday event.

coach did all the right things but sometimes in life things go awry when least expect it.let him take heart because the green army is solidly behind him .we will win all the cups next season.lets concentrate on improving on small errors or judgement on part of players ,let them get used to playing big games and winning ,i guess that might have contributed to tension during the game
anyway the fish fell back in the water but we will still catch it

Well done K’galo bench, players and fans.Despite the disappointment and let the caged bird fly away don’t worry it happens.
I echo Dinga in that Mr.Log should be retained. We need his administrative skills and tough attitude in K’galo.Let Sir Bob be there for the technical and interpersonal skill.
However we must recruit more creative midfielders to hold the team. This system of throwing caution to the wind and pumping forwards into the game won’t work but the bench had to mek do with the resources it had.4 these talented players LAZIMA TUVUKE BODA. Lavasta has been a bit down,Rasta and A Abondo have improved but we need more same with central defensive cover.

  • Guys, just heard that Brookside demands an apology from Gor for the chaos else they will rethink the sponsorship.
    It left me wondering:
    1) What steps have they taken to conduct clinics to help Gor educate the fans on this vice.
    2) Never seen a sponsor who is always intimidating the sponsee (remember the jersey issue)
    3) A sponsor who thinks that just giving funds is all that is required of them (compare it with the Mumias sponsorship)
    4) Hooliganism aside I still believe Gor as a brand is still bigger than Tuzo. Never knew Tuzo before the Gor deal.
As much as we thank Tuzo for the sponsorship I believe they also have a role to play. At the moment even bonus for players they have to be coerced. I wish we could get rid of the bad apples in our midst and get a sponsor beffiting a club like Gor. Blackmailing the team is not how you will market your brand

Tuzo are only taking advantage of the club. Apologizing will mean the club has accepted liability for events which took place outside the stadium almost two hours after the final wistle which i feel shouldn’t be the case. Next time, we should get serious sponsors. These tuzo guys are not interested in the development of our club, they just want to make money from ‘free’ advert they get from Gor Mahia Fc.
