Muguna on target as Kenya, Uganda draw 1-1
Gor Mahia skipper Kenneth Muguna’s scoring form at club level, continued at the national team level on Sunday. Against the Uganda Cranes on Sunday, Muguna scored the equalizer that salvaged a 1-1 draw for Kenya’s Harambee Stars.
It was a day of redemption for Muguna because he had been left out of the Kenya squad that played in the 2019 AFCON. Lawrence Juma also made his national team debut. Highly deserved.
The goal resulted from the hard work of former Gor Mahia defender Eric Ouma “Marcelo”. He made a determined run down the left flank, shrugging off several Ugandan opponents before setting up Ayub Timbe who in turn sent an inviting cross that Mugana deflected passed the hapless Uganda goalkeeper.
Uganda had taken the lead in the first half when a defensive blunder saw the Ugandans disposses Kenya in the penalty box. The ball was passed to Emmanuel Okwi who sliced the kenya defence to score. At this point Uganda were creating more chances. In fact minutes earlier, another Kenya defensive blunder gifted the Ugandans the ball in the penalty box but the Ugandan effort slammed against the upright. Kenya defenders have been trying to pass the ball from deep. But under pressure they often cough up the ball. A bright spot for Kenya in the first half was Ayub Timbe whose pace and explosive moves on the left flank were too difficult for Uganda to handle. Still Michael Olunga, again playing as a lone striker, hardly saw any of the ball.
Kenya came back a much better side in the second half. Muguna’s goal came in the 50th minute. Kenya continued to press. In the 55th minute, Eric Johana came close with a clever lob but his effort was saved by the Ugandan custodian. Next it was Olunga’s turn. His header was also saved by the Ugandan keeper.
In the 80th minute, Ayub Timbe was fouled in the penalty box. But the Ugandan keeper gave a free-kick on the edge of the box instead. Olunga was to come close again 5 minutes later. His header struck the cross bar. The last chance fell to Boniface Muchiri whose effort was one of his trade mark long range missiles. Again the Ugandan keeper parried the ball.

Now those who thought that kahata is better than muguna , you can now agree with me that whatever I’ve been saying is the truth. That muguna is far much better than kahata and it’s muguna who helped Gor mahia fc reach quarter final of CCC of last season. Muguna made kahata shine and people thought that kahata is the best. Kahata can only perform while playing along side muguna and that’s why he could not perform in afcon. Anyone who know how to observe players in play will always say that currently, muguna is the best attacking midfielder in the country. But haters who reason with their emotions will not agree. Am very happy that he’s the new Gor mahia captain and he also scored a crucial goal to help kimanzi hide from his incompetence. Lawrence Juma also used his debut appearance well in his role where he was deployed. But the central defender who partnered Joshua gave Joshua a hard time and people might think that the MVP did not play well. I don’t know why he was deployed, or was it because he’s from kcb and zico who is an assistant coach is the head coach of kcb.

@Michael Ogolo , I remember someone shouting to whoever cared to listen that it would take not less than 15 YEARS to get a player like Kahata and yet from your post it seems like it didnt even take 2Minutes ,that aside our boys gave a good account of themselves and a special mention goes to Lawrence Juma ,his self discipline ,hardwork and patience is beginning to bear fruits ,finally ,soon and very soon ,more Gor Mahia players are going to grace the national team ,One thing i have said before but i wish to reiterate is that we have enough good players within this country and if common sense is allowed to prevail ,we would not need to import players from outside this country , we only need to reinvest in what used to work in our hey days , a Big up to Joash and Muguna .
I am not convinced of this Kimanzi season 3. Or is it 4. It will soon play out and his true depth of ‘expertise’ will once again be exposed. I do not expect him to go far, neither am I convinced that he has anything new in his bag of tricks. Zico on the other hand has had a long-time advantage of working with Gor foreign coaches. His luck of confidence was exposed when he seemed overly too comfortable in playing second fiddle chez Gor. Did he learn anything from these coaches? The best place to judge him will be at the KPL arena.
Kimanzi will quickly learn that rellying on Gor players will be his easy way out, but wether Mwendwa will allow him the space is another subject matter. Mwendwa is in a hurry that his Kariobangi sharks team scales upward in Kenyan soccer. I expect that his teams ‘quota’ in Harambee stars will not be interfered with…
The appointment of Kenneth Muguna Mugambi as the captain of Gor Mahia has really helped to showcase his talent. Kenneth together with compatriot Lawrence Juma are very talented players that will go places in the near future.

Congrats to the gor’s trio for an incredible and stand out perfomance for our country. Part of it proves that the national team selection in the past, have always been skewed to serve some parochial intrest at the expense of merit and talent, as exhibited in between lawrence and kenneth. Back at gor the mid field combination of lawrence, keneth, samwel and boniface makes a dream team quartet. They are the engine. They make the team tick and infact they are the unsung heroes of k’ogalo. I think the caf cl offer them an opportunity, challange and spring board to take their talents to the next level. I hope they will continue to work harder and be consistent. With talents like muguna in our team, i think finally we have managed to exhorsise the ghosts of kahata, tuyisenge and shakava of this world.
