Background

Nasio had broken his nose during the match against Bandari and had been unable to get medical assistance from the club.

Brief Solomon Nasio profile

The 28 year old Nasio joined Gor Mahia in 2009. Along with Jerim Onyango, he is among the longest serving players in the team. He mostly plays at full back where he is dependable on defence and calm and collected on the ball. Prior to joining Gor Mahia, he played with Dandora youth academy among others and attended Maranda secondary. His contract with Gor Mahia ends in June and fans will be hoping to still see him in the Gor Mahia jersey beyond June.

Statement from Sec Gen Chris Omondi

This statement was posted in social media by Chris Omondi as he sought to distance himself from the accusation that he stated “The club has no money to assist Nasio“.

My take on Solomon Nasio’s issue:-

I regularly attend the teams'(both Senior n Under 19) training sessions to either catch up with the ongoings in the teams or have some pep talk with the TBs,players but oftenly the Captain and Vice Captain……..

Sometime in March during such talks, the captain n vice captain brought to my attention this case after the match against Bandari-that Nasio had a pending surgery procedure since last year…n that this injury explained his early substitution during that Bandari match……they equally told me that the previous officials were aware of his predicament…..the captains told me that since the players felt that the office was not doing anything, they had decided each to contribute 5k to that cause!!!BUT there i was as an official n was not aware of this problem, called the treasurer,he was not aware too…..though the “old” officials were aware of the case…..

I confess that i told the two captains that its embarassing if they were to treat their colleague from their sources n i promised them i am taking up the issue…..i corraborated their story from Nasio, the TM,the Chairman n the team doctor….the player told me he had saved 50k n thus i approached the office for 120k….minutes of several meetings can bail me out on this…..

Whereas this issue is so embarassing to our club n the officials in particular….the rush for blood displayed on the different walls is a bit harsh n some laughable-eg its known you never pay entry to the stadium(coz of reasons not associated with press card) yet you are yelling here the most!!!!

Fellow followers,i believe Nasio’s case illustrate the problems of the past…..problems that have now been forestalled ,at least for one year,by the Players’ n TBs Medical Insurance Cover that was launched yesterday….isnt that positive moving forward??so we get roasted for a past we were not in charge of???

Maybe this exposure may catalyse reactions elsewhere n our player will be treated……HOWEVER,being saddled with problems DOES not mean we lose focus on the future…..we are trying to lay the INFRASTRUCTURE for change……Nasio atatibiwa

SG – This club needs a fishing rod not a fish. U r on the right pedestal laying foundation for a financially stable club. Don’t lose focus

Soon contribution fatigue will set in. U need to move fast.

U need to learn to handle the media too.

  • Honestly, what is this Chris Omondi saying? I don’t understand him at all. He is simply yarping!! Yaani a senior squad member has a very serious injury and he is feigning ignorance!! Chris, you don’t know anything football. You should be very embarrassed and must apologise to Gor fans and Nasio’s family and the entire playing unit. Your statement is very embarrassing to many of us and even to those who don’t support Gor Mahia. You should just shut up and resign!!

Guys, this is the spirit we need in Gor. We should LOVE our players at all times. They sacrifice alot to bring us joy and we must appreiciate them.
Our EC must now run very fast and catch up with the fans who it seems are now far much ahead in terms of how they need the club to be run.
I also ask our officials to liaise with Chase Bank to explain to members about the membership drive and the application process. I saw the form on the official site and there was lots of issues which the ordinary Gor fan will need expalined to them in a layman’s language. They need to know whether the card doubles as a credit card and what are the implications of using it to purchase goods. Can we preload the card with funds and use it to pay for stadium entry? etc etc.

  • i made my contribution yesterday through barasa erick, though i never received a thank you note, i am extremely proud of what we achieved and wish nasio all the best. as for the SG, without any doubt you are doing a great job, however you make me wonder if there is normally handing over during transition from one office to the other, and if so, what did george bwana handover to you. surely its extremely naive to come out to make statements which indeed implicates you the EC, SIR, instead of giving statements, you should have somehow sorted the medical issue. that could have done kogalo more good than some defensive statements. as @PMAWEGO has put it, mine is to diplomatically tell you that silence is gold mr SG. i would wish you to imagine the consequences of abandoning a player in need would have on the commitment of the other players to the club. SG ukitaka players wajitume kulingana, washugulikie sir. for now we have bailed you people out but mchunge sana unless if you dont know why you were entrusted with those enormous positions.

  • Great spirit for those who contributed but the truth remains that with the current crop of EC, we are headed nowhere. They dont need advice much as they know that we are sinking deeper. Its so embsrrassing Chris! Stop the blame game and give us your achievents this far..
