Newcomers shock Gor Mahia

Courtesy of futaa.com

Gor Mahia lost its midweek tie 2012 0-1 to visiting Kenyan Premier League debutant Muhoroni Youth in a game played on Wednesday 22 February 2012 . The lone goal for the visitors was scored by Geoffrey Simiyu in the 77th minute.

In about the ninth minute Gor thought they had taken the lead but a connection from a corner hit the underneath of the cross bar before bouncing back into play and to the safety of the league newcomers.

Long cross from deep

The next real chance on goal came in the 19th minute when a knock down by Gor Mahia’s Ali Abondo in the box falls on Baldwin Ngwa whose low shot was parried off by Muhoroni keeper Joseck Kadongo for a corner. The resultant kick rattles the underneath of the cross bar but bounces back into play.

Just two minutes later a long cross from deep found Abondo but his shot from acute angle hit the side netting.

Muhoroni had a chance of their own when striker David Oriki was left unmarked in thepeanlty area. He dove for a ball from deep but his header but somehow Gor keeper Ivo Mapunda managed to keep Gor on a clean sheet.

Three minutes to the break, Ngwa went up to meet a high ball but his header earned that was later wasted.

– Muhoroni’s back five have been impressive. If they get a sucker punch Gor could be in trouble, said SuperSport analysts Arnold Kanyangonda at the break

-Gor obviously have the better chances but it looks one of those familiar things where the favorite has the chances but no goals, added Arnold

– I am looking at a 1-0 Muhoroni win, Arnold Kanyangonda, he concluded

Ahead of Gor defenders

The second half kicked off with skipper of the day Kevin Ochieng limped off for former Thika United left back Yusuf Juma. In the very next minute, Juma whips in a cross and Ateng nearly concedes an own goal for Muhoroni

On 52 minutes, Gor Mahia back line was caught off and David Oriki found himself ahead of Gor defenders. However, his first touch and precision let him down as he shot straight at Mapunda he punched it back in play but the rebound was wasted by Faraj.

Ten minutes later Tony Nyangor ‘Balotieno’ failed to connect to a bouncing ball after an otherwise well organized Muhoroni Youth defense was caught in a mix up. Just two minutes later a Nyagor touch on a corner was cleared off the line by substititue Caleb Waka.

Went above bar

Another break from the half saw Gor Mahia go down 0-1. A racing Muhoroni player squared a pass to dangerman Geoffrey Simiyu who with a low shot beat Ivo Mapunda for debutants Muhorni’s first ever Kenyan Premier League goal.

With six minutes to time, Gor Mahia Coach Anaba Awono throw in Duncan Mached Owiti for Ali Abondo, but with Muhoroni holding out their defense.

But just when Muhoroni thought they had the game, a flurry of shots led to a penalty after a hand ball . centre referee Richard Mongare awarded a penalty with the time reading two minutes past the regulation 90.

Collins Gatusso Okoth who had played his heart out in the holding role, stepped back and took a shot. But it ended in further agony as Gor fans who had already began walking off and stopped to see an equalizer.

It was not to be as Gatusso’s shot went above bar to hand Muhoroni their first ever Premier league win.

Motema pembe my brother it is not the coach, infact everyone in that tech bench, the playing unit and the EC are all in agony. No one is at fault. They played their hearts out.

Unconfirmed sources have put it on the blue kit…and the penalty is to soak in goals until green and white will be appeased then there will be a very dramatic turn around…but let us not speculate because very reliable information is on the way from Ndhiwa.

  • I wnt to say the following: All the people that have continuously castigated me for posting very long analysis and comments today have the answers they have been looking for. They need to re-read all my comments about the coaching at Gor Mahia and the coach’s ability. I dare to stick my neck out and say- ‘The coach may be qualified, but I think Gor is still too big a club for him.’ Its inexcuseable for Gor Mahia to lose to Muhoroni Youth. A new entrant to the KPL, fielding mostly outcasts from other Premier League Teams. This Mr. Tinkering man, a name given to Claudio Ranieri when he was the coach of Chelsea FC. for always changing his Lind-up. This is what Awono is still doing. Stop guessing and experimenting wth the line-up coach Awono. You must get your act together or you wl have to give way to someone else very soon. If he cannot then he must resign or be forced to resign or be sacked. I rest my case coz titles are won by consistent teams. Teams which are able to string along a streak of wins against small and big teams. League Championships are never won by winning only big matches ie against Tusker, Sofa Paka, Ulinzi, AFC Leopards, Sony or Rangers. These so called big teams constitute only a total of 36 points. The rest have a point total of 60 resting on their heads. As the EC ponders whether to maintain the status quo at the technical bench or to bring in someone new, they MUST also think over the merits and demerits of retaining or firing this coach now. They MUST remember that we shall not accept such drab and pedestrian performances frm Gor Mahia starting the next match against Tusker. Thank you and may God bless Gor Mahia.

I knew we won’t make it when we were awarded penalty. Gattuso disappoints all the time. Alot of energy he has, but actually he is always a wonderer and try to find lame excuses.I watched Gor play in Thika, hmm, I tell all by God’s grace. Gor is a time with no confidence of beating even Ambira High School in Ugunja and am pretty sure of this.

If Zeddy was arrogant to some players and thats why some of them were not performing, is he applying the same to some of Sony players?. Gor players need to wake up and play real soccer and stop behaving like babies. the coach is good but players arent’t serious, plays like nothing matters.

  • This reminds me of the low point I felt in 1983 just before they brought in Len Julien – the hunger for the league title after AFC won three times and faded hope at the start of the league not winning first three games. Yet, I strongly feel that this will be Kogalo’s year, but maybe that’s what makes us die-hard fans. I join you all in hoping for the best and staying with it no matter how it hurts. For me, the passion I had back in the 80’s is back. Kogalo forever!

I join my colleagues in this moaning, is there something wrong with team selection? It was such a low performance and makes one wonder whether the coach is in charge or someone else is ordering things from behind the scene?

Before the match Awono had curiosly commented that “we are four coaches and we must agree on the team selection”. Mr Coach if you have the mandate please take charge, that’s when you will be in a position to take responsibility for theresults. Chairman and EC what is happening? See,David Owino was on the bench when our defence was in shambles, when did Wekesa ever play central defence?

And we continue to lose such crucial penalty kicks, surely whats going on; and the multiple injuries especially to key strikers? What could be going on, can it be addressed quickly?

the players just need composure and a winning mentality because judging from the muhoroni clash and the previous matches, this is what we lack. ivo is good, the technical team should work at solidifying the backline because to me this is our greatest undoing,..,,same mistakes of giving a lot of room to the opponents instead of suffocating them.

as for the missed penalty, it is neither here nor there and we must not crucify gattusso as it happens all over like recently in afcon where drogba & gyan missed crucial chances. to me collins okoth is the epicentre of kogalo’s midfield and should be supported by all & sundry. on the other hand aa & co must work on this penalty nightmare that has denied us the peace & supersoprt trophies. lets soldier on kogalo.

we have a chairman who is clueless and lacks ideas, this anaba awono football philosophy is as old as the hills, the assistants need to go back to football school, case in point:the central midfield should have designated roles, i.e a holding midfielder who links defence to midfield in attack and protects the back 4 in defence, just watch our central mid when our defence has the ball, shocking the no.6 does not come to collect the no.8 does not open for extra options result long ball to the strickers, this is football 101, the defence, that mosoti guy does not fit in at all, yusuf juma is a waste very shaky on defence, balotieno in attack needs to work with a striking coach he has the talent size and speed but he is too raw, decision making poor, gents we are already out of the caf cup ill not waste my money and time going 4 the ferrovario game

This weekend when i travel back home(Muhoroni) i will miss my favorite joint Friends bar because having bragged to Coach Imonje and Adagala how GM was to hammer them 4:0 my argument was based on the fact that Muhoroni has never played under floodlight, The green army, GM is back from Mozambique and was full of revenge and i was sure of the result. What happened yesterday has put me in an awkward situation. You cannot rate Muhoroni with GM and its high time GM players assess themselves and make decision whether they want to play football. I think us fans we have spoiled the lads by overating these players and that is why whenever they go for trial in Europe they create no impact. Let the players change their attitude and play football otherwise we are heading no where. Its very unfortunate but i remain K’OGALO DAMU

Defense in the foundation of any good football team. Football coaches are fond of saying that offense wins games, but defense wins titles. This concept goes all the way back to youth football leagues, where a dominant defense is the #1 key to a successful season. The reason for this is simple; if the opponent never scores, a team can never lose.

  • Poor Kogalo, i felt lots of sympathy for our boys last night. I felt really sad. They were hungry for goals and yet clueless on how to get them. No formation.

Coaches, you have players and what we need is a team.

How many times did Nyangor, Makori and Ngwa fight over balls? Did you see this? What is the positioning?

When Kevin got injured and you brought in Yusuf, what was the big idea?

How many one on one balls did Mapunda save? What was creating the hole?

Can you list all the teams you have played since December and see if any is similar?

Jerim Onyango, Yusuf Juma, Ivan Anguyo, Antony Teddy Akumu, Moses Otieno, Ibrahim Kitawi were all starters in Maputo. Why change 6 of your top starters against Muhoroni Youth?

Next game is Ferroviario and i can bet 6 new faces different from yesterday will be there. Why, when you say they played well but were unlucky? Against Tusker more changes, against ingwe more changes.

There are many injuries like Anaba says, but there is only one in defence with Nasio. What are we to believe? Without Nasio we have no defence or what?

Ken Odhiambo was picked specifically to assist with defence and he needs to work on it starting now. The matches being played are not friendlies and will count in November.

Last night we survived the embarrassment of a 3-0 drubbing.

Lastly, all is not lost. I feel we need to help our defensive side because the front is looking as hungry as i would love it to be and i think with Awono, we will start registering more than one goal per match. He seems good with forwards. Many KPL teams don’t fight for goals like i saw with Kogalo last night and i’m positive with time we can make some of the top strikers in the Kenyan game.

    gor mahia’s 3 problems;
    1.technic
    2.attitude
    3.fans

1.watching gor mahia play one will quickly see that there is no goal mouth plan. those of you who watched the el mereik and breweries matches maybe noticed this. the sudan club opened up the gor defence at will and if it was not for the finisher, the match was actually supposed to be 4-2. i must admit gor also missed some good chance. but my problem is not on the chances per say but how the defence was opened. what was even more suprising is that ‘brewer’ was doing the same to gor though at a lower ‘quality’.gor has good players but on technic, i really underate them…
2.attitude of some of these players(leave out the foreigners) leaves alot to desire. these players will all tell you how they want to turn pro, but they play for the crowd.the likes of collins and ‘odhisi’ are such examples.even if messi comes to gor mahia, he will not do much. blackberry’s attitude to ‘go and get’ inspired the rest but once he left, the fall was imminent.they should not wonder why blackberry moved on as pro.
    3. stones. i will credit the fans for winning some matches, the one nil scores i actually attribute to the fans.but football eventually is on the field. most coaches have realized this with gor… ignore the fans and take advantage of the poor display. the fans then molest the coach for a miracle…obviously panick-mode decisions are made, for now the coach knows his LIFE is on the line.fans have created a panick mode in the club and its has been distructive.guys should reallise that the coach is always underpressure to deliver so BEATINGS are not necessary. fans behave as coaches, WEARING ADIDAS JERSEYS YET THE CLUB IS SPONSORED BY LEAGEA pretty much sums up their understanding of the situation.

Guys, these are some of the trying and difficult moments GM is going through.Pin pointing and calling names at this point in time wont save the club from its agonies.it is in this time that the entire kogallo family should start believing in themselves. Somebody tell us, was that really football? Gor is going nowhere. I said we shall be very lucky to win any trophy this season. @Jakoyo, I agree with you. There was a panic buying at the end of the season and I am on record saying as much. The players brought in were not recruited by the technical bench but by fans. The George Bwana’s of this world wanted to impress those who voted them in by doing everything fans said. Mr. Bwana, it doesnt work like that. EC is a different ball game. Why on earth would you like to come back to GM mr . ZICO where for sure nobody is willing to welcome you back. I would rather your stay at SONY but keep on blogging with while comaflauging as Kosero the chameleon style.

And by the way Tusker were beaten by Western stima drew with Muhoroni youth. They also failed to convert a penalty awarded during the match. Drogba and Asmoah Gyan also missed a penalty in the recent AFCON tournament.

Not until fans allow the EC to manage Gor professionally and the coaches handle the team without pressure, winning KPL will remain a pipe dream. Gor’s game is worse than it were last season. You cannot convince anybody that Ken Odhiambo is a better coach then ZD. He almost led City Stars to relegation. How does he become an assistant coach for a big club like Gor. What are Anaba Awono credentials? Or he is a coach because he comes from Cameroon? We need prayer, prayers, prayers as the headmaster requested. We need ZD back or Musungu. • For us to be true fans of the team we need to offer unconditional support at all times. That is not to say we shouldn’t criticise. Saying that one cannot come to the stadium because he is disappointed that the team lost it means that those are the guys who follow euphoria to come to the stadium. Some of us have been there and will be there despite the occasional heartaches. After all that is football. Harassing a player even on their facebook page is primitive and is now criminal according to the laws of the country. As said before if one is hurting supporting GM the best thing is to either give GM a break or join the other several teams around. It might be good for your health since even if we become as good as Barca we will still lose some matches, to the Muhorni youths of this world. So guys let’s not cast the players and coaches in bad light. It’s not good for team spirit. If you have to say some of these things doing so in the branch meetings would greatly assist the team. We need the web site and email address to be able to communicate issues we cannot air out in the open. What happened to the Mpesa account?

@Otieno Okwiri in post 23 if you fail to attend the Ferefere match how will you feel, to watch a Sofapaka, Ulinzi or Brewers fan seated on the “area of your posterior” (‘kar ……’) cheering that Mozambican team against us?
Players and coaches come and go but Gor Mahia is an institution that is there to stay and it is that name that our forefathers and fathers defended. It is our turn to defend it. Supporting Gor Mahia is our duty and it is not optional.

Information from the other world is indicating that the spirits of green and white are furious for the ‘unauthorized’ donning of the blue colour. It goes on to say that it is too late for now… the damage has been done and the verdict has been passed (to lose a string of matches for a while). The problem is: nobody knows for how long. So let us take our punishment patiently as we wait for the reprieve. There are better days ahead, however.

Back to this world: the only thing the players should have been told is “go there and enjoy yourselves and the goals will come.” Too much tension and pressure on the playing unit as well as the tech bench cost us the 3 points. If only people could relax and man their departments efficiently!

@29 Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch Kampala) you are predictable. I saw this coming too and it is like regular contributors to this blog can read your mind even before you post your blog. Almost always it rubs us the wrong way. Do you enjoy it? Please have mercy.

This would be a likeable situation to a company developed with passion, invested heavily, brought in the right team who you think would perform, with lots of immidiate returns which should be genuinely positive.
the first month, you fail to break even, the second month, the same happens. what should be the best realistic way to deal with the occurrence?
    bring down the investment?
    sack the top management?
    rebrand?

the reality is dawning on us, and the sooner the better.
It could only be illogical to give Gattuso a penalty kick even after refusing one recently. surely, iv been saying it again and again that what we lack is not a coach but a phsychological approach.
we need a mentor, someone who can create a winning attitude to the team.
you saw El mereikh, even the keeper needed a one on one approach with his mentor….
let us out gro simple cries like being beaten by Muhoroni.

It was said before that success in football cannot be bought. The reality is dawning and all can see. Truth be said, neither can success be consistently gambled!

In GM some people have their untouchables, then how can we develop the players when we praise and defend them even if they cost the team? Mentioning players name negatively does not help, yes not even confronting them but the rule of thumb is that at the end of the day everyone takes responsibility.

I am not a qualified coach but with these comments:

1.We would have drawn the match if one midfielder hadn’t crossed the ball to Muhoroni Youth striker, that’s the truth.. he has done this many many times but has been lucky in all those previous occasions, in yester’s match he paid for this, no one can run away from this.

    2. I beg to ask, Do we have someone playing the role of holding midfielder at GM? Then why are our defense ever exposed? We will always shout and cry but do not forget that most of our players are extremely overrated and reduced to playing for the crowd not positively for the team, that’s why there is always a rush of the ball from deep defense, to the strikers as our midfielders wait to please the crowd instead of defense splitting passes to the upper midfielders for onward pass to strikers.

    3. I believe one very reliable winger was playing as a striker leading to mix up and ball wastage so many times could every player’s role be defined to each for every game?

    4. Yes we made terrible recruitment and we now have have horrible play and unimaginable results..Are we ever recruiting first eleven every season? This is GM..Lets admit this is GM do not expect order..you can guess the results but i remain optimistic?

5.Lastly guys i detest the blue jersey because i have been used to the customary Green and White for GM. But i urge my fellow fans please lets build K’gallo on quantifiable basis the blue jersey has nothing to do with terrible performance after after having a midfield staffed with pupulist players and identical non ball winners, leading to unplaned attacks, with a midfielder who crosses balls to opponents day in day out.

Superstition will take GM nowhere lets have a competently managed tech bench who do proper fielding and training and substitutions then we will win.

  • Hey guys! Let’s not lose focus. Kosero is not the subject matter here. Neither is ZD.

We didn’t recruit poorly. All Kogalo followers felt for two seasons that the midfield and striking was the missing link. Defence only needed one or two more players. Kogalo is the team with the highest number of new players this season. The squad can be found on http://www.kogalomagazine.co.ke

Defence now has Kevin Ochieng, Solomon Nasio, Musa Mohamed, David Owino, Anguyo, Donald Mosoti, Yusuf Juma, Collins Omondi, Wekesa, Felix Nwosu. (10 PLAYERS)

Defensive midfielders are Collins Okoth, Peter Juma, Moses Otieno and Antony Akumu.

From the above list of 14 players, Felix was the only one called ordinary. I thought against City Stars he did much better than what i witnessed yesterday. What is making all these greats ordinary? What is making Kogalo ordinary?

Every game the gate collections are impressive, the results heartbreaking. Ingwe are promising to humiliate us. What are they seeing in our team? Or what are they not seeing? We lost 1 million in Peace Cup and wished it away. We lost 1 million in Supersport Cup and wished it away, Top Eight has come and will we wish it away?

If the team needs radical surgery in management and coaching let it be done now. We must be winners. We must be Champions. We are Gor Mahia, We are Gor Kogalo. ‘Mayienga Mayiengo Piny’.

This game was indeed disappointing. A number of times when you hit the post, have shots cleared off the line and miss a penalty..those are signs of misfortune. Nevertheless, we cannot castigate the team and the bench becoz we believe that the GM team we saw was the best from the available options. We must learn to let success grow afterall who has not missed a penalty before!!

This Anaba Awono will not take Gor Mahia anywhere apart from relegation. There is no day that he has got it right! In fact Zeddy is better than him several times.Who brought Ken Odhiambo in to Gor?Is he not the one who brought in the jersey 4 guy from City Stars? If we carry all this people to the end, then i promise you people that Gor will finish bottom five.

  • The administrators of this site deleted my yesterday’s comments and analysis after the Gor / Muhoroni match. The reasons behind this move is unknown to me as I have consistently been as objective as possible. This post can attest to that.
I want the EC, the Technical bench, the players and the fans to answer all the questions below.

    1. With the kind of resources available to Gor Mahia presently, wouldn’t any of the following former coaches of the team:- Ocholla Tobias, Oduor Austin, Ochieng Gideon, Allan Thigo, Sianga James, Adero Elly, Oyugi Bob or even Vojo Gardaschevic achieve greater things compared to the current coaches??
    2. With the kind of attention and care that the current Gor Mahia players and coaches enjoy, aren’t we not justified to demand for better performances and better results from them?

    3. Who scouted and ran the rules over the players that we signed at the beginning of this season? Who is the person in-charge of coaching, conditioning and fielding? Coach Awono intimated yesterday to being part of a four-man team / coaches. Could this be true? If it is , then who is the overall authority as far as Technical Bench is concerned?

    4. Who authorized the massive signings (Number-wise) that we made, especially in the attack. Was it the EC or the Technical Bench?

    5. Who are (name-wise)the other coaches that applied for the position of a coach at Gor Mahia, and were all of them interviewed?

    6. Who were the people on the panel that conducted the interviews for the prospective coaches?
What were the results (performance-wise)of the interviewees. What were some of the outstanding qualities that coach Awono and co exhibited that endeared them to the panel? Thank you for answering.

    THE TEAM
How many times did I cry and shout at the top of my voice that the team was IMBALANCED? We recruited too many Attacking players (Attacking Mid-fielders and Strikers) but very little attention if any was paid to our defence. We have 7 central strikers, 7 attacking mid-fielders and 4 defensive mid-fielders. Compare this with only 8 defenders including Anguyo and 3 goal- keepers. Defence is the foundation of a team, but we only brought in Owino and Juma. Mosoti was a panic buy so we don’t know whether he was ever scouted or even the qualities that he adds to the team!!. Just like the case of Arsenal losing both FABREGAS AND NASRI and replacing them with Ramsey and Arteta. So is the case of Gor Mahia losing Masika and Awillo and replacing them with Mosoti and Owino. You don’t lose your best players and replace them with average or unknown ones!!. You should go out there and buy players of equal quality if not better! The results will always vindicate you if you do the right thing. Pls there is no need barring people from contributing their two cents worth of football knowledge, especially when they raise very valid queries. We are not doing anybody’s bidding but are just concerned and objective football / Gor Mahia fans.

    CONCLUSION.

Those that call the shots at Gor Mahia have adamantly and vehemently refused to listen to our LOUD and DISGRUNTLED voices concerning the team’s recent performances. But we shall not relent until the right thing is done. The hour of reckoning is surely coming and we MUST Right what is Wrong before it is too late.

Please, I have compared, contrasted and exchanged:, Tactical, Technical and Historical football notes with among others some of the very talented, decorated and feted former footballers and coaches of both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards. All agree that all that can go wrong with Gor Mahia has already unfolded before our own eyes. The quality of coaching is substandard and can only get worse.

This Mr.Tinkering man- Remember Claudio Rannieri, the former coach of Chelsea FC in the season 2003-2004. He earned this name for failing to have a recognizable 1st-eleven despite the quality of players he had at his disposal. Eventually he was sacked by Abrahamovich for failure to deliver the Championship. Coach Awono has followed him into the history books by also failing to establish a 1st-eleven at Gor Mahia. David Owino has been available since the beginning of the season, but he has been kept on the bench save for the match against Tusker. Why is this so when he is a more dependable player than Mosoti, Anguyo or Wekesa in the central defence? Not surprising is the fact that: Defence is our MAIN problem arnd this coach continues to leave him on the bench. This coachea a MUST be forced to up his game or he MUST be forced to resign or be sacked. The technical bench MUST justify and earn the confidence that both the FANS and the EC has in them.

It is in excuse-able and unacceptable for Gor Mahia to lose to Muhoroni Youth, a team fielding mostly cast-aways of other Premier League Teams!!! The Technical bench is so inept and complicit that they continue to gamble with formations and line-ups, one after the other, hoping and praying for miracles to happen.

Those that are asking for more time for the coaches need to explain to us the rationale behind the team not having a settled 1st-eleven, three weeks into the new season. They need to tell us why the coach keeps on picking and dropping players with wanton abandon! He does this with scant regards to performance, talent, ability, adaptability and availability.

On the Muhoroni match, can anybody explain to me why Wekesa is switched to central defence while Owino or Akumu are left on the bench? They are more suited to the central role than Wekesa. Imagine A central defence pairing of Wekesa and Mosoti, two completely similar players in their style of play- Clumsy in the tackle, slow on take-off and recovery and both are left sided. Please, we demand for answers why this coach cant field players based on availability, adaptability, talent, performance and quality.

    FINALLY
Coach Awono and co may be qualified but they are out of their depths when it comes to coaching Gor Mahia. Thank you.

Unfortunate but lets not worsen situation by fingerpointing especially at individual players. If some supporters harrassed Gatuso as reported that does not help and we should refrain from that kind of thing.

I heard a lot of boos for Tonny Otieno, and that was just his second game?? Why, the guy is new to the Kogalo environment and we could make him improve by NOT booing him; he has talent and he could not possibly score on all the chances that came his way, its not possible.Mosoti is a tough defender and any one familiar with KPL knows this, and it is not proper to criticise him at this stage. However Mr coach, please tell us who are your 1st choice defenders from number 1 to 5, that is where the problem is.See in Leopards we can name with fair degree of certainty even the fisrt eleven, but you will realize they hardly change number 1 to 5.Ken Odhiambo was himself a good defender, so Ken what are you doing for the Kogalo’s defence.

If Mapunda did not stand firm I was counting up to five goals!!!!!!!!Pongezi Mapunda.

First, I salute the debutants, Muhoroni Youth for giving a very account of themselves yesterday. Their first foray in Nairobi paid handsomely. What with a well deserve win!

My great club, K’ogalo played fairly well , but sadly we lost the match to the relatively young and inexprience side. As I go through your comments, I wonder whether we have abjucated our responsibility as fans. The role of the technical bench is well defined in our constitution. it is not our duty to question whether they’ve consulted each other. it is not our role to point who to play where although your suggestions can be taken or disregarded by technical bench. I though it was you guys who demanded for to be elevated as coach. Why the sudden change of heart?

It is also true comrade A. Kosero pledge support for the technical bench even though he have his own reservations for coach AA. As a proud supporter of this clu, just like everyone else on this blog, he is entitled to his own opininion. We must learn to tolerate other’s opinion. This is a principle we must learn to cultivate at K’ogalo. It is too early to judge our team.

Pole ndugu Le Pastre @post 54 for what befell your article. I count myself fortunate for not being either in the Gor Mahia playing unit, or the technical bench or the EC because of what those guys are all going through currently. There is a lot of heat there and I don’t envy them. It is true there are so many questions demanding answers but let time be the best judge. We don’t need to call for AA’s dismissal. With that kind of heat some of those people will just self destruct. At least they are not thick-skinned like some who had to be missiled out.

Any keen follower of football must have noted something common among Claudio Ranierri, Twahir Muhiddin and AA and whatever it is, they are not motivators at all.

It is unfortunate that some fans have stooped so low as to harass some of our players. Those boys need so much encouragement from us now. Let us remember that if we cannot allow the boys to dream then they will not allow us to sleep.

  • AN OPEN LETTER TO COMRADE LE PASTRE

The last I checked, you joined us on this blog towards the end of last season. I must at the outset thank you for believing in K’ogalo and feel proud to be associated with it. Your contributions on this site is greatly appreciated and much welcomed.

However, did you ever asked yourself why do we have this site in the first place?

I am compelled to ask you this question because of late you are sneaking the same old bad habits of yore. First, if my memory serves me right, we held an early election at November i and elected men and women who shall steer this club to greater heights . The new office is up and running. Consequently, the Executive Committee on behalf of all the stakeholders of K’ogalo headhunted a technical bench, whose role is also clearly defined in our statutes.

The fans, who includes Le pastre ( whatever the word means in French) plays an intergral part in the club. The main reason being, weare the main source of revenue for the club. Without you, our valued customer, there will be no Gor Mahia. Fans have been encouraged to join any branch of your choice. I am sorry I don’t know which branch you belong. We also are yet to device a tool to measure our degree of loyalty to the club.

My advice to you as comrade blogger is, please let us not put uncessarry pressure both to our officials, t/ bench and ofcourse to the players. I wish to go on the record that comrade A. kosero and I vehemently defended coach Zedekiah Otieno at a time when the rest are agitating for his sacking. The rest is now history. When coach AA was introduced to the fans, we pledged our full support because we believe in teamwork and unity of purpose. Some of these issues you’re ably articulating are large housekeeping issues.

During the last season, we paid dearly for this uncalled for actions. At one point we paid a hefty price of Ksh 1,000,000 for crowd trouble. We also lost lives. Our players at one point have to contend to play on empty stadium something they are not used to. These are things we should as much as possible this season. i would therefore urge you to be responsible both for your actions and talk.

As much as you would like to incite me to join the bandwagon calling for the “destruction and demolition” of coah AA please be informed that OGANGO TRAILER is above such cheap “club-politics” and will remain calm for the time being.

I hereby desperately appeal to all our beloved fans, officials, players and technical bench of GOR MAHIA to remain calm, patient and be tolerant to each other during this trying moment as the season just begins. We sholud not be worked up to the level that can be confirmed by what has been posted on this blog-site since we encountered two consecutive losses in Maputo and Nairobi.

I urge you all inclusive of La Pastre, Pareyio,Dan, Kosero,Arrumttidi,JABILO,wuon pap, papamiky, motema….( the list is just endless) of this blog who holds different views to engage in healthy, constructive and factual debates devoid of name calling and character assassination. MY LOYALTY TO GOR MAHIA

I am today 36 years of age, a dedicated and selfless fan and supporter of Gor Mahia. As a curious, athletic, energetic and enthusiastic eleven-year old son of my dad, I attended my 1st football match in a stadium – City Stadium (Tok Komwanda) for those in the know. The year was 1987 and the teams playing were Gor Mahia in an all Green outfit and the other team in Yellow tops and black trunks, I came to learn later was Kenya Breweries (Tusker today). That marked the beginning of my love-affair with anything GOR MAHIA, especially after watching the way the mid-fielders and strikers destroyed Kenya Breweries. The result was 2:0 to Gor Mahia. Scorers being one Abbas Khamis Magongo “Zamalek” or Orieko to those who adored him most and Anthony Onyango Ndollo “Pikipiki” For the next 25 years, I have been anything but an ardent and fearless supporter and fan of this great club. I have never shied away to criticize this team whenever things are not done the right-way. I have religiously attended their matches to all the corners of our country- from Mombasa, Meru, Mumias and to Machakos. From Nairobi, Nakuru, to Awendo. From Kisumu, Kakamega and to Kanduyi in Bungoma. Even when all the other branches were inactive, we as The Taifa Branch remained active, frequently holding our meetings next to Uchumi- Aga Khan -Walk and opposite City Hall.

So my dear bro Lelerue, and anyone who would like to question my commitment, loyalty, comments, analysis, dedication and experience as far as “ANYTHING GOR MAHIA GOES”, here is my humble submission. I hope you will find me qualified to give my two-cents worth of knowledge on anything Gor Mahia and football in general.

IF MY QUESTIONING THE CREDENTIALS of the coaching staff at Gor Mahia, the method of hiring and the QUALITY OF THEIR COACHING earns me the tag of “A SNEAKER” so be it. This is what bro Lelerue wrote to me. And I quote: “Of late you are Sneaking the same old Bad Habits of Yore” I want to tell you for the records: Please bloggers, Gor Mahia as a man, was from my village- The Larger Kanyamwa. It has since been divided into Kanyamwa Kosewe, Kanyamwa Kologi and Kanyamwa Kochieng and Komungu. He came from Kosewe, near Nyamanga School and he was never associated with mediocrity like the ones the likes of coach Awono and co are currently dishing out to us fans and supporters. This they do despite the amount of money they are paid, the calibre of players they have at their disposal and the good-will they enjoy from us fans!!!

The story of Gor Mahia the Man and Gor Mahia The Football Club when told, is littered with successes upon successes and Excellence. We therefore bro Lelerue, cannot accept to be duped by a Coach / technical bench whose credentials are not known to us. We judge you by the results you post- hence coach Awono and co are gonnas/losers and should not have been considered as better than the other applicants. Transparency dictates that the EC should have disclosed or published the names of the other applicants. Where has coach Awono coached before, what is his success rate /percentage viz av his failures?. What are the qualifications of the other people on the bench? Gor Mahia is a BRAND NAME and as such cannot be used by those launching their carriers in coaching, neither will we accept third-rate coaches. We shall continue to question the credentials of this Technical Bench until the results prove us otherwise. So far, they have been out-thought, out-witted and out-foxed by Sammy Omollo, Alfred Imonje and the Ferroviaro coach. Gor Mahia is not the team for beginners and those that want to experiment with systems and formations.

I have been with Gor Mahia for so long and has witnessed the reigns of different Executive Committees, Coaches and Captains. From Chairmen such as Douglas Oyieng Dolla, the late Joab Omino ‘Rateng’, Lesley Okudo wuod Akumu, the late Joel Nyaseme, Sam Ahollo, Ocholla Ogoda, Fred Mwango, Erastus Okul- Yes he of the FKL fame to the current chair, my good friend Ambrose Rachier. I have the memories of different coaches: From the Danish Coach / Technical Adviser- the late Jack Johnson, Ochieng Maurice ‘Sonyi’ David Otti, Vojo Gadaschevic, Bob Oyugi, Elly Adero, James Sianga, Austin Oduor, Tobias Ocholla, Gideon Ochieng, ZD-Oki footballer of the year 89) to the current coach- Annaba Awono. From Captains led by Captain Fantastic, Austin ‘Makamu’ Oduor, ZD, Dan Ogada, Frazier Ochieng, joseph Owino ‘Ondai’ Allan Odhiambo, Francis Odhiambo, Pro, Ken Oliech, Awillo to the current captain Jerim Fredrick Onyango. I have grown with the fans, the players and the EC. I have celebrated with them during good times and mourned with them during bad times.

Rise-up (Researcher per excellence- Ochido Kamukunji),If you want to know, the late Ochido was Anthony Ndollo’s father in -law. I also went to SBC with his son. The late Apingo Nyawawa, Jamasogo and Ongondo. Where are you good people Otieno owad gi Omande-Jakanyamwa, Jabondo, Okello Kochuodho and Don Kenyatta. Where are you deputy Sec. Gen. Mr. Ngala and former Organizing Sec- William Ouko Amolle’Ngatma Deadly.’ The above mentioned people can hold a candle for me when it comes to supporting Gor Mahia- ‘Kwa Mali na Hali’ because we have been there in bad times and good times. We have been there when there was no money to run the club, when there was no internet leave alone FACEBOOK and TWITTER.

So bro Lelerue, when I raise questions about the level of coaching, preparation, motivation, commitment and performance in Gor Mahia, its because I have seen the very best and the very worst in this football club. In a nutshell, I know what I am talking about.

” The Dead Tell no Tale” so they say, but I am still here for and with my brothers.

WE MUST MAKE SURE THAT THIS BRAND NAME- GOR MAHIA IS HANDLED ONLY BY EXTREMELY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL. FROM THE BACK-ROOM STAFF SUCH AS THE GROUNDS-MAN AND THE KITS-MAN, TO THE PHYSIO, THE TEAM MANAGER AND TO THE HEAD-COACH. IF YOU INSIST ON HIRING HALF-QUALIFIED STAFF, BE PREPARED TO REAP HEART-ACHE UPON HEART-ACHE.

    THANK YOU.

Unfortunate. What is really happening with Gor Mahia. Rachier note this. Do a way with Tuzo colour Kits and dont even sell them. Give them to our schools some take near the grave yard the forest called Lambwe forest. There must be respect for identity. Rachier in the history the only chairman that changed Gor Mahia Kits, for this if it is in the interest of our mighty Club resign. Then the technical bench should ask themselves why was the purchase of all this players? among the buys, who will add value to us? bcoz all of them are subs. if u look at Gor lineup there are so many lazy players. Look at defence Anguyo, Musoti, Yusuf and Musa we can trust with the ball. Try this players and let them train together, Kasaya, Nasio,Wekesa,Musa and owino midfield,Peter Juma, Mossa Otino, Wings, Makori and kiplngat strikers Dancan Owiti and Baldin Ngwa. Okoth should rest Abodo and Rama Bench. Midenyo should be left train every includin match days.

I think GM just lost one KPL league and is yet to play the second leg of CAF Cup. There is no law that dictates GM must lose the next game either to Tursker, Fero whatever or AFC.

We are all concerned with the bad play and poor fielding witnessed in our immediate previous matches, that’s why the tech bench is faced with questions. This is normal to many people no one is unquestionable in the world.

At the same time it’s not because ZD was or is a better coach that any one, whoever is campaigning for him should know that he’s been in the coaching business for close to ten years with well financed teams but has absolutely no trophy to show for that, AA won the FKL trophy which makes him better than ZD.

WE need not trust or commit to any thing but its obvious that GM will finish on top of SONY, in case there is any sabotage or underground politics from any GM staff or playing unit causing bad results then it will be dealt with by all and sundry.

Bad results will not be sustained for whoever’s satisfaction and soon the verdict will be out!

Is the coach able to communicate effectively to the players, something is very wrong.

One would expect players appearing for Gor to play with some deep sense of pride and determination to win if only to give back to their absolutely faithful fans.

Have just come from Paris and very dissappointed by the performance of the team. What went wrong and I had thuoght we recruted the best players in all departments. This is a wakeup call for the admin, players, technical bench and fans. We brought in Owino from Karuturi, peter Juma, ngwa, etc but performance is dismal. This is very unacceptable for the future of the club. I think we need technical bench to change their attitude regarding pattern of football. We used to have a style of playing of passing the balls but what I saw in the replay are long balls, poor defending, poor cordination, poor passes, no flow etc which did not augur very well with the game. I am seeing AFC Leopards might win the league if we do not change our game.

Chairman A Rachier, SG Bwana, Kilo etal should wake up and explain to fans their plans for this year as well as new developments. Before KPL kicked off, we fans were hearing of lots of activities. Since we have lost two games, we do not know what are the plans for the year 2012.

It is now appearing that our local rival AFC Leopards are setting the pace for Gor Mahia and other clubs to follow for example Leopards have launched sale of season tickets, jaza kiwanja campaign, bus project, sms etc while our office is just sleeping with no new ideas to take the club to a higher level.

Gor Mahia office are just sleeping on the jobs despite the good proposals month in month out by fans like myself and others. Secretary General and Chairman are just sleeping and busy mourning the last two losses the club suffered with the last one week. Where are we going as a clamour club in this region? Are heading to obvillion?

It is on record that we fans have made good proposals but noone seems keen to pursue these excellent proposals and ideas. It appears that AFC Leopards have been going through our website and taking our proposals seriously by implementing them without any fear. I had proposed for seasonal tickets, fans open day, professionalism, clubhouse, stadia, youth team, campaigns to bring more fans, recruitment of members, CSR, more sponsors, 5 year Strategic Plan etc but as usual, there excuses from this office.

My heart is bleeding for this club and my questions to the office are the following:-
    1. Why were you officials elected by members?
    2. What are admin mandates regarding the club?
    3. Are you really thinking about the future of the club?
    4. Do you know your duties?
    5. Are you fit and proper?
    6. Do you have the required credentials to lead Gor Mahia?

I’m also dissappointed with our fans who are complaining about the recent losses. Instead we need to find out the rot in the club and office together with technical bench are squarely to be blamed. We are tired with inept office and technical bench that do not understand the basics of football. Why are people fighting to be elected but have no ideas on how they can lead the club?

Fellow bloggers and fans, there are dangers ahead and it is time we are told what is happening in the club.

Let me suprise the bloggers and fans, I had posted somr good proposals by administrator of this site blocked/deleted before fans could go through them. This is my dilema and whoever is managing this site should be like Ceaser’s wife. I had made 25 proposals but were rejected by the manager of this site and I promise to repost them or post the somewhere.

One missstep should not warrant any roasting of the playing unit or call for sacking the coach, the boys had a good game the goals were not coming, lets not dwell in the past and look at the next match.
through thick and thin lets stand by the team, and this year we all know KPL is in its most competitive season ever seen in a long time.WE ARE GORMAHIA

To comrade Mwakio i say ,in Gor ‘JI RIEK TE’ means the office bearers are too sharp to listen to any other contributions of ideas.it’s their way or the highway.

some one posted something about team planning including must win games, surely this game v Muhooroni youth has to be one of those games. You can’t drop such simple games and expect to win the league.

last season, Tusker finished (9 or 10 points) ahead of K’Ogalo, among the 3 games that made Gor drop 9 points were games against Bandari and Congo united, clubs that were relegated. Had we won this simple games, we would have had a chance of winning the league.

I hope we are not taking this same route again. I can deal with splitting games against Tusker, Ingwe, Sofapaka and Ulinzi, the rest of the games in the league must be winnable both home and away. The technical bench has all the ammunition to routinely win all other games apart from the one’s I mentioned every time we play such teams. That is the only way champion sides are developed.

I strongly advocate for the coaching staff to teach our boyz how to take penalties! For the time being let rama take all our penalties! Kogalo for life!
