Nuttall picks positives out of Dynamos clash

Mike Olunga in action against Power Dynamos

At the end of 2014, Gor Mahia had no choice but to overhaul the side. A number of key players left at the end of 2014 leaving what was already a paper thin squad with virtually no bench. This is aproduct of the fact that Gor Mahia hemorrhages a large number of players every December and every June. This bi-annual player departure often leaves Gor Mahia having to rebuild a squad almost from scratch every January. How to address this issue is a story for another day.

The focus now is on preparing for the Africa Champions League encounter with CnaPS of Madagascar that will occur in two weeks. Coach Frank Nuttall has the tall order of rebuilding a competitive team. the club has done the right thing by scheduling a number of high profile friendlies. Bandari were the first to expose Gor Mahia’s during the previous weekend. And this past weekend, a very organized and efficient Zambian side went a step further.

Nuttall has previously complained about a blunt forwardline. He now realizes that besides the attack, there is plenty more work to do.

“We were lost in midfield and that is where they dominated us,” Nuttall told goal.com after the match. Some players in midfield appeared to lack match fitness. And it has been a while since Gor Mahia had a creative midfielder.

Defence was also an issue. For the second goal, goalkeeper Jerim Onyango had to contend with three wide Open Power Dyanamos strikers. He had no chance.

However Nuttall is confident that the myriad issues can be resolved prior to the ACL encounter.

But there are many positives to take from the game as we build-up for our continental assignment in two weeks time. We have analysed our performance in a real game situation and we have time to work and improve before we play our next match.”

Frank Ouna for his part is looking forward to Meddie Kagere to solve Gor Mahia’s attacking problems

“We created many chances and won two penalties but missed both. It’s unfortunate we missed the penalties, but with the arrival of Meddie Kagere I am confident we will start scoring.” he said to the Standard.

CNaPs in Action

Meanwhile Gor Mahia’s opponents continued to warm up for their encounter against Gor Mahia. This past weekend they played in the Madagascar Super cup against rivals Elgeco.  Repors suggest that CNaPs played well but could not prise open the opposing defence. The game ended 0-0. This off-season, CNaps strengthened their unit by signing among others, Olivier Ralaidimy from Tana Sports
We hope coach Nuttall can get a copy of this video or other CNaPs videos to prepare Kogalo.

To avoid this hemorrhage is simple. Pay the players competitive salaries within the region. But without a substantive sponsor or financial clout that will always be a tall order. Just read that upto now we are still shopping for a sponsor. Looks like as much it is a marketeers dream to land the Gor fan base it comes with it’s own risks to a brand.
I like Nuttal’s optmism. That’s the spirit to carry on with. I can see us breaking through by the time CNAPS come calling

    Always picking positives.
Just try cancelling out the negatives.
Kwani what do these guys do in daily training.
This is why I miss Logarusic.

80% of the work is done in TRAINING (Including proper adminstration by EC).
PLAN, PLAN, PLAN IN GOOD TIME.

EC never wanted to compete in the CAF tournament.
We should have bitten the bullet and opted out. We are totally unprepared be it the TB,players and EC (financially).
Case in point all our foreign players are ineligible for the game on Valentine’s Day.
When you recruit 2 players for 1.8M and 2M and a coach for maybe 1M.

These guys drove a hard bargain on being signed so they simply must pay back with results. CAF we can forget but TPL, GoTv and even CECAFA we are only interested in results, Results,RESULTS.

EC I hope the wage bill is well taken care of coz you know when it is due and how much it is.
GM fans should not relent on pushing the TB, players and EC to perform.
    K’galo sio team ndogo.

  • @Oduor12: I totally agree that these guys should pay back the huge investment made in them. But at this moment I think it’s abit early to demand instant results. The reason being, we cannot assume that they are not trying to do just that. We have not heard about any disciplinary issues so far. They are training and working hard to give us results. I think the boys should be given time to gell. Also take into account that, at this moment, the coach has to work more with the players who have been registered with CAF. Ofcourse this can be countered by why was the registration done early ? There will be myriads of reasons for this. I still believe that the club signed good players and they will deliver especially in the league where registration issues will not come into play. My concern is that Gor should not entertain joy riders, a player who cannot deliver should promptly be shown the door.

@ Dinga we’re on the same page that’s why you will notice I and most realize and accept that we are not ready for CAF. Here blame lies with the EC, they’ve been down this route and should have planned better.

Very good idea if we can replay Power Dynamo, that’s an opportunity to reassess ourselves after one week especially tactically.
The other thing GM EC,TB & players must have ingrained in their mind is that positive results and a good show brings in the crowd and hence the cash.

This Dynamos how many are they in Kenya? I can see in goalcom thay Nakumat have confirmed playing them on Saturday 7pm. The same team will play Tusker the same day and now Gor??

I have said before that EC already failed us on CAF. The earlier we are eliminated the better so that we stop demanding what we can’t get.

But when it comes to KPL or whatever name, GOTV,Top 8 and CECAFA I will demand what I expect from the millions spent on those players and the TB.

How comes this EC of ours never does anything good? Or is it an issue of some people never seeing anything positive from them? Why couldn’t they ‘FORCE’ some players to sign before the CAF deadline? Why did they let Calabar, Kizito and Danny leave? Not forgetting that for us we change jobs, colleges, houses, partners etc to improve our lives.
All the same we have a replay over the weekend and we should see some improvements. I believe that immediately we gel then players like Wafula and Rooney will torment the opposition like we would like as gor fans. I am still optimistic that this year we have the best team as opposed to last year where i could have rated our team 5 or 6th in terms of player experience. At least this time we have a sub bench to talk about

I think that at the moment alot of positives can be picked chez GOR. Gor closed the season as champions and has also drawn alot of good attention. The playing technic level is still shallow and has drawn alot of criticism. Gor at the moment is influencing other clubs in east and central, in other words, the CURRENTLY successful clubs are going for Gor players. I think that Gor will start this season mentally stronger than at the same time last season. I do not expect Gor to make a great leap in the Champions league but i expect it to roar in the league this season.I also expect a sponsor to soon come on board but my major worry remains, the Gor hooligans. These guys have the potential to chase away all the current goodwill that might come the clubs way. Scenes on a recent funeral show that they are very active. They seem to move together and are probably sponsored by some politician.

Watching the friendly Match the general feeling was not even scoring a goal or two. It was more of how can the team play together as a team and give results at the end. Yes there is still a lot of work to be done. I noticed the sluggishness. I also think that the new guys might be tempted to be in a rush to prove themselves, This can easily promote selfishness. They should therefore concentrate in working as a team and they will grow into what is desired. A large number of people who came to watch showed a lot of good will to the club. They did not subject the players into any pressure.I urge our layers to work harder especially now that the real game situations are fast approaching.

DYNAMOS!DYNAMOS, Kenyan champions have been forced to call off trip to Kampala for a series of matches and could now confront visiting Power Dynamos in a re-match

Champions Gor Mahia will play their final friendly matches against local sides after they called off their tour of Uganda due to financial constraints.

K’Ogalo, who were humiliated 3-0 by visiting Zambian giants Power Dynamos last weekend, were scheduled to play Sports Club Villa this weekend but club assistant secretary general Ronald Ngala told Goal on Tuesday that they had been forced to cancel the trip to Kampala because “we are not financially stable.”

“We had planned to go to Uganda because we hoped to get some funds but we have not until now so we have no option but to stay around. Maybe the other option could have been to invite them here but they too are in a position similar to ours so they are not able to travel Nairobi.”

Ngala suggested they were looking at playing GOtv Shield winners, Sofapaka FC, and a second club that Goal understands could be Sony Sugar FC. At the same time, Ngala revealed Dynamos had requested for a rematch encounter but “the technical bench is still reluctant on granting that request.”

“If they sanction the second match against (Power) Dynamos then we may have that fixture as well which would then mean we shall play one local side,” concluded Ngala, who revealed their preliminary first round match opponents CnaPs of Madagascar, are expected to arrive in the country next Wednesday.

Am questioning our level of fitness n tactical approach,I’ve no issue with the result bt how we played.the game lacked plan no composure no urgency no concentration I mean the team was disjointed n lacked morale…its understandable that thiz game was a friendly come C.A.F preparation bt dynomos played good n won big despite late arrival..thiz leaves as with a lot more questions than answers TB should identify now the 1st team for C.A.F now n compell them to thorough preparation coz no time for try n error, time to test players is out, from the list presented to c.a.f I understand that most of the new signings were no included.why don’t TB concentrate on thiz players who are to represent us in such a high profile friendly?I bliv we are capable bt only if we do things in good time.

  • K’ogalo defence is horrible. The coach should look into that and advise the defenders not to overrely on off side trap. The coach should identify one midfielder to control the game then the likes of olunga, blackbery when well fed, the results will definately come as olunga is a finisher not like Danny.
