Nuttall to use mashemeji draw as motivation

As Gor Mahia shift focus to City Stars, coach Frank Nuttall will be using the draw against arch rivals AFC leopards to push his side to work harder.

“The dropped points, first this season, will not affect us negatively rather, it will push us to work harder to collect three points next game”  said Nutall according to futaa.com

Nuttall lauded his side and thinks they deserved the win .

“There was an expectancy that we would beat AFC Leopards but this game was not about the form of a team, it was about taking chances and we kept on pushing looking for a win.  On a different day, the referee would have given us a penalty when (Meddie) Kagere was felled in the box but we move on. ”

One area where the team will need to work harder or restrategize is in the defensive section. Thus far the Gor Mahia attack is sharper than it has been since the Steve Okumu, Dan Ogada, Steve Odiaga era of the late 1990s. In the past few years, though Gor Mahia did not score much, they scarcely conceded goals.

Defense is one area the team will need to study. Gor Mahia has conceded a goal in almost every game. It must be said however that at least two of those goals were from direct free-kicks. In past years, Gor Mahia deployed two defensive midfielders. Now Gor Mahia deploys only one (usually Gattuso) and he at times appears overburdened. Nevertheless the full time return of Dirkir Glay who is an experienced central defender will help shore up that section.

Boniface Oluoch solid between the sticks

If Gor Mahia’s defence appears shaky, it certainly cannot be blamed on Boniface Oluoch’s shot saving exploits. Oluoch who joined from Tusker has been in fine form this season making crucial save after crucial save.

None other than the national team coach Bobby Williamson has lauded Oluoch.

“Boniface is surely a great keeper. I wanted to get him at Gor Mahia when I first came to Kenya but somehow the deal did not materialize. He is a decent keeper just like Jerry (Onyango) and took some good competition to the team and to get the nod ahead of Jerry means he is a very special talent” said Williamson to futaa.com

Boniface had an opportunity to learn the art of goalkeeping from close quarters. His brother was George Odhiambo “Taffarel” (RIP) who played for Gor Mahia in the late 1990s. “Taffarel” passed away in 2013. His other brother is former KPL referee Andrew Juma.

  • That was a good derby while K’galo appeared composed & tactical, Ingwe (aka Gor exes) played with passion/bidii (apart from skillful ex GM player Wanyonyi)
I see GMFC going far with their new style of play. What we need is to press the opponent more.
Gor needs to take full advantage of the height of Olunga (new “Omuga Dawo”). Nutall Kazi kwako with “Luanda Magere” Kagere & Olunga you’ve a complete lethal brigade & artillery.
Jokogalo only the wage bill is the biggest impediment to local title

We always criticize EC for not being transparent when it comes money issue. I’m surprised that nobody bothered to update fans on the motivation kitty.

        Where was the transparency?

If we are not accountable, how can we demand EC to accountable?

Je? nyani ni yule yule msitu ndio tofauti?

  • For those blaming Boniface oluoch for conceding every game here is some interesting statictics ….gor mahia have conceded 5 goals so far and 4 of the goals ( apart from the derby goal ) has been from set pieces outside the box. infact if it were not for Boniface oluoch, Kogallo would have lost the derby.

so now you see where we need to tighten to avoid conceding a goal every game . over to you EC.

Could this conceding of goals be emanating from the style of play? Because when you look at the statistics, we seem to be scoring more goals. And this tends to reflect in the European big leagues. Some one may argue that it is a high risk system but it looks like it pays. So my suggestion is sharpen what is working for us.

Ooh Laa la a..! “HARD WORK PAYS AND KUDOS TO BONNIE A.K.A KENYA-ONE”

@ Bobby Williamson very TRUE, With Bonnie in fine form, it is just a matter of time or rather “WHEN” before ORIGI throws in the towel. After all ARNOLD had intimidated about early retirement from national team obligation and if I were BOBBY then I would grant him his wish at this period in time.

Next is to the EFUSI fans who always yell so much on this site and yet they can’t afford to attend the derby which was intended to boost their kitty and sort out their financial deficiencies. This quacks who like masquerading on this site as the “know it all” with matters pertaining to local football are a big disgrace to the EFUSI family.

Out of 3.9 M collected from the derby it is a pity to note that the EFUSI fraternity only contributed 0.75M. Thank you a million times and may God bless you all the mighty “Gor Mahians” for your generous contribution as well as being our brother’s keeper at the moment of need.

And when we meet again the same QUACKS will discourage their brothers to attend the match just like the previous season. Whether they attend or not “Gor Mahians” are capable of flooding the stadium.

At last for a long time we kept a clean sheet but also went back to our ‘three-some’ goals. For our info every player has his weaknesses. Pick any Gor player and I will show you his weakness. That is human nature. The thing is to make to full use our strengths

It is really annoying that corporates have refused to sponsor teams with huge followings and fanbase like Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, which is largely due to political reasons. When we subscribe to Safaricom and Airtel services, we are not subscribing to promote CORD nor RAO or Jubilee or Uhuruto ideals and ideologies. This is really pathetic if local corporates are dancing to the tunes of tribalistic and political undertones of political appointees, who do not see football sponsorship as business with long term fringe benefits to their brands and business.

For example look at the free marketing tools Gor Mahia fans that still have been donning or wearing TUZO branded jerseys to date. What a free marketing for nothing? For the next three years, fans will still be wearing Tuzo branded jerseys. It is really pathetic and shameful for such companies to continue enjoying free marketing without reciprocating back to the club.

Where are corporate to seize the opportunities of sponsoring these great two popular teams in Kenya? These are the only two teams that can take football in Kenya to greater heights and hence require support from all the stakeholders. .

Banks, beverages manufacturers, mobile telephony, media, insurance companies and agribusiness are racking huge and abnormal profits at the expense of Kenyans. Where is there corporate social responsibilities and marketing initiatives? Can they explore free sponsorships even if the contracts elapsed?

These two clubs when they go outside the country to represent Kenya, they are not doing it to the regions where their supporters originate from but for good of the country. We need to get youths engaged into sporting activities and to withdraw from illicit activities like drugs, crimes and changaa menace but corporate, NGOs and government institutions are just watching. Where is the Ministry of Sports initiatives for such self supporting clubs can benefit from sponsorships?
