Oktay: Gor Mahia can beat Zamalek

Coach Hassan Oktay was satisfied with his side’s performance against SoNy Sugar and is now looking forward to the challenge of continental giants Zamalek.

“Although we are unable to win all the matches, victory against Sony Sugar has instilled confidence in my players ahead of the match against Egypt’s Zamalek on Sunday.” he told the Standard.

Zamalek is a club of higher pedigree than Gor Mahia whose performance of late has not been inspiring. Still Oktay is confident.

“It is not a big deal to beat Zamalek. A section of the media have created a wrong impression. We are equal to the task and my boys are ready. ” he said.

Kenyan teams usually end up on the recieiving end of beatings from Egyptian sides. Gor Mahia under Zdravko Logarusic lost to ENPPI of Egypt by an aggregate score of 3-0 in 2013. Prior to that Gor Mahia had been eliminated by Zamalek three times and Ismailia once. Among Kenyan clubs, only Sofapaka has ever eliminated an Egyptian side. But Oktay is unmoved.

“We are capable of breaking the jinx against the Egyptian clubs who have in the past beat Kenyan teams in almost all continental matches. We want to change the trend.”

On the club’s local form, Oktay says that he has been frustrated by referee decisions. According to him, the referee in the match against SoNy Sugar denied Gor Mahia a penalty and a clear goal.

“Earlier, we had been denied a goal after the referee pointed at the centre only for him to change mind after consulting with an assistant referee,” he claimed

Jakoyo you are not mentally upright since all your indicators suggest one suffering from hysteria and distortion. Why always issue threats that you can’t enforce? From immigration bans to supposed ultimatums that were to have Oktay gone before Zamalek game this week now it has shifted to next week. From Oktay will prove himself only by beating New Stars to qualify to group stage now it is by beating Zamalek. Gor will do it’s absolute best to win against all odds on Sunday but there are No ultimatums or threats whatsoever accompanying the game. We already moved to announce an SGM scheduled for the 9th of Feb so come and tell us all your hullabaloo there we will respond. You might just also leave with Zico on your side heading home to look for another team as we are pondering whether to retain him in his role. Support GM truly and stop this KIUNO Party business that Sam Muga has found out you belong to…

The under pressure Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay has defended his decision to leave ace striker Dennis Oliech and Francis Kahata on the bench in their 2-0 win over Sony Sugar in a SportPesa Premier League match played on Wednesday at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.

Oktay said that he was managing star striker Oliech ahead of busy schedule ahead. “This was a deliberate move as I didn’t want Oliech to be injured,” he said.

He further revealed that it was necessary for Kahata to rest after a series of tough matches in Cameroon and Tanzania. “Kahata is a great player but it is also good to rest him after a rigorous game against New Stars De Doula in Limbe, Cameroon where they played under sea level conditions.”

According to the tactician, Gor players need to manage their schedule and have adequate rest especially after the grueling Caf Confederation Cup qualifying matches and SportPesa Cup in Dar es Salaam.

The Kenyan champions face Egyptian giants Zamalek on Sunday in their first Caf Confederation Cup pool match at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

“Oliech has played 15 or 45 or 70 minutes in past matches and I always start him or he comes off the bench. He has to be fresh ahead of the crucial continental match against Egyptians on Sunday.”

At the same time Oktay said that his charges were clinical in their match against Sony Sugar, where they created few scoring opportunities but utilized them.
“When we lost against Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) last weekend, we created at least seven chances which we failed to convert but against Sony we created few chances and we utilised them.”

Gor scored a goal in each half through Rwandan striker Jacques Tuyisenge to record their fifth win of the season and climb to fourth position on the log with 16 points.

Meanwhile, Oktay has lashed out the centre referee Goerge Mwai for denying them a goal against Sony. Samuel Onyango’s corner was deflected into the goal by a Sony defender but it was chalked off after Mwai consulted his second assistant.

“When the goal crossed the goal line the referee pointed at the centre and moments later he changed his decision and ruled it as an off side goal. That was wrong decision,” said Oktay.

His Sony counterpart Patrick Odhiambo blamed “side shows” and “intimidation” for his side’s loss. “The game was well contested but 60 minutes of the games was stoppages, and a lot of sides shows and intimidation of my players. This is very shameful because technically only 30 minutes of the play was football,” said an angry coach Odhiambo.

Odhiambo was also not satisfied with level of officiating by the day’s chosen match officials. “From as early as 15th minute I stopped enjoying the match because of bad calls and late timing and confused decisions leading to unnecessary stoppages. It’s disgusting and shameful.”

Oktay stop trying to justify every thing you do to sports journalists. You should have simply asked them if it is a crime for Kahata and Oliech to sit on the bench period. Some of this journalists are affiliated to players and will always do their bidding on social and mainstream media. Finally FkF give us competent Referee’s to officiate games as this mediocre ones are bringing the local game under disrepute. The KCB loss had bad terrible officiating as did the SoNy match. Do something soon before fans decide ngwech after Referee’s is the solution

Jamigori about Walusimbi i can say it is a continuation of South African xenophobia on foreigners in their land when they feel threatened. They mistreated Kahata..Ali Abondo…Clifton Miheso…Paul Were…Kevin Kimani…David Cheche…Eric Johanna et al all whom didn’t last 6 Months in their contracts. In uganda they messed up Joseph Ochaya…Farouk Miya..Derrick Nsibambi amongst others…Walusimbi is not a bench player and cannot withstand being benched while Siphosela Ntiya Ntiya starts…Let me explore bringing him back to K’Ogalo

For Walusimbi, I just say that life is always sure to be very humbling. It happens whenever we overate ourselves. Chairman Jamigori, I apologise for not mentioning your name in the foregoing article, but remember I put in the rider that the list is endless. However, you realize that as Chairman in waiting, your name is now under tight security and should therefore not be mentioned abaramach.

      1. Is it possible to sign unattached players outside the transfer window?
      2. If so, how about we think about roping back both Walusimbi and Nzigiyimana. I know some of us will say Walusimbi abandoned us and Karim was not his original self after the injury but most keen observers will agree that even at that level he was still better than Philemon while Batambuze is overated(Just look at goals we have conceded this season and see how many have come from his side of territory. Going forward his offensive input has been very minimal.

@Musymo Karim is already in talks to come back here as today we were to send his air ticket but now again Walusimbi is free so confusion reigns. Unless mustapha could make way we re-sign both fullbacks. We are in communication with FkF to know if since they were in our roster they can comeback

@Jasego osiepa, we need both and if God loves Gor Mahia, He should touch Mustapha’s heart to admit that he has not made the cut in Gor Mahia and pave way for an upgrade. To all bloggers here are you aware that for all the months he has been in Gor Mahia Mustapha has scored only ONCE-against Rayon Sports?

I would prefer we bring back nzigimana over Walusimbi, although Batambuzi is not as good as Walusimbi, he is good enough and we dont have a problem in the left back position. After observing Mustafa, i can now conclude that his stint in Gor will not be a successful one as a striker in Gor as much as he is a good player. KPL favours big powerful striker with upper body strength as opposed to technique. Thats why the last five seasons the top scorers have been the likes of Rupia, Kapaito, Abud, Kipkurui…players that are not as technical but power and strength on their side, the same reason Guikan couldn’t cut it. Francis said he had joined a gym…but gym alone is not going to cut it if he is naturally skinny and without a proper diet. Either he is converted into a winger or offloaded. This should be a lesson for future striker signings in GM

@BB hehehe…do not make me laugh. I need Kshs.900 million to become chairman of Gor Mahia for 4 years as we have to use money in order to attract money from all quarters.

Our players should be thinking of going to Europe not South Africa. They have wasted many players from Kenya and other African countries. But our players do not learn from these happenings.

I have always said that Musymo is hawkeyed and I thank God that I am always vindicated. Your observation on Shaffiq Batambuze is spot-on and the good thing is that you back it with fact. I believe that very soon, Godfrey Ochieng’ will bench Batambuze almost permanently.

On a different note, is it a matter of coincidence that Walusimbi’s exit from KC is happening at the same time that our two very experienced and talented players, centre half Albert Kosero and striker-turned defensive midfielder Ogango Trailer are resurfacing from the bench?

    • Musymo

@BB, about Batambuze , I don’t think our prayer will be answered soon. Oktay and most previous Gor Mahia coaches are rigid in their thinking. They prefer big name players even when some unknowns can do better. That explains why Gor has very minimal transition from it’s youth ranks or new players breaking into the limelight.’He believes Batambuze is better than Geoffrey and that will not change. But if you have watched the lad you will admit he is a bundle of talent. He may be raw and hesitant to venture forward but very solid defensively. He also plays in a very Walusimbi-esque style mixing flair and substance. Most lethal left-backs(infact majority of left-footed players) always have this ball-handling flair that is always beautiful on the eye and the lad has the IT. In the past this model of big name mentality has served us well and it is only becoming an issue when we are struggling. It is also refreshing to always have a Eric ‘Marcelo’ kind of story once in a while. Keeps dreamers like us in business

@Musymo, Jasego and BB, when will the club start reaping from Gor Mahia Youth team? I need to send some of these players to KPL teams and tie them in very long term contracts and our coach should be bold to incorporate the youth team players to the main team. Mathare has been benefiting from our youths with products like Nyakeya now top scorer in the log. We need to stop Mathare by transitioning the youth team to the senior team.

Jamigori big clubs all over the world face the same transitioning problem of youth team players into the senior teams. That is why Paul Pogba a product of Man U youth program was overlooked and he went to Juventus and after shining they re-acquired him on a world record fee. Chelsea also have the same debacle with Hudson Odoi who was Bayern Munchen bound until they realized better…

I remember this 84 incident like yesterday. Sitting packed in the streets with one Mzee holding his transistor Phillips radio for all of us to follow the proceedings. Leonard mambo Mbotela was at his best. ” haya jameni refa huyu anapatiana penalty hapa. Wachezaji wa Gor wamekataa. Wanamzunguka refa. Len Julians anaqatuliza…cool down boys cool down boys….”
The penalty was taken and then the Arab referee zeroed on Abbas Magongo who was the midfield measure, being a Muslim with a Muslim name the ref gave him a red card for being the best in the team. For no genuine reason..warabu?..
Then all he’ll broke loose and Leonard Mbotela again was screaming on the radio at his best” Refa anapatia Magongo red card, red card. Jameni tumeonelewa hapa. No aibu. Tumeharamiwa. Gor wanalalmika. Len Juliana anawatuliza. Wanakataa. Hayaa refa chini, refa chini. Magongo anamtandika teke. Juliana anawatuliza….”
Like yesterday. Oliech Wuod ma can you avenge this madness for us who were traumatised by the Arab madness. Can Jasego stand to be counted out? Loose all the other games but Zamalek is special. Finish Zamalek kama burukenge.

Jasego, you are the only link that we have with the technical bench and the players. I want to ask you to find a way by all means possible to make Godfrey ochieng our full back three . Remember that we normally sign foreign players on positions we believe we’re lacking quality .kaizer chiefs did realize that they have a young player who is equally good in full back three and decided to bench walusimbi and they’ve been doing well in the league except yesterday when they lost to an equally better side in Cape Town city. So I really don’t support the resigning of walusimbi because that will make our own son be ignored and walusimbi will be preferred not he is better but because of perceived experience as is happening now. Godfrey is a very good full back three and with enough play time, will also compete Erick ouma Marcelo in the national team. We should never afford to deny this guy play time simply because of experience. Remember Erick ouma Marcelo joined from high school and Frank nuttal used both walusimbi and Erick ouma at the same time. So the question of experience should not arise. I watched this guy, Godfrey ochieng, play against mbao fc and he was very impressive and even commentators likened him to walusimbi. We need him like yesterday and his talent should not be derailed by being denied play time. So try this my friend by all means.

Resigning Walu can be the worst mistake ever.Remember his habit of work boycott and indiscipline due to late payment or overstaying in UG after the holidays. Geoffrey Ochieng and Batambze are equally capable and more disciplined than Walu. Against Zmlk Gor players must be 100% fit and fully alert because Arabs are very swift going forward especially on the counter.A slight loss in concentration and we are punished. Otherwise GOODLUCK and may God give us victory.

Gor Mahia to miss out on Walusimbi transfer cash after termination of contract by Kaizer Chiefs
    by Soka25east.com February 2, 2019

Kenyan side Gor Mahia will miss out on a chance to cash in on close to R1.5 million equaivalent to $ 112,600 or ksh 11 million from Kaizer Chiefs after the Soweto giants terminated the contract of Ugandan International Godfrey Walusimbi.

Amakhosi announced that have parted ways with Walusumbi after the Ugandan spent only six months at Naturena.

Gor Mahia were set to receive the second instalment of the transfer fee for the defender in January.

But according to a source close to the matter, Gor Mahia will not not receive any money due to the fact that the left back’s contract was terminated.

“The first instalment was paid late last year. The second instalment was due in January,” said the source.

“However the club in Kenya will now not receive anything after the player’s contract was terminated,” he added.

When i warned against selling Walusimbi citing several instances that proved KC is a conmanship club the EC chose not to listen. I was for reporting Kaiser Chiefs to Fifa and letting due process take it’s course for tapping cotracted players without clubs permission. They are notorious for this behavior just like they did with madagascan CNAPS star player around the same time. Aduda is bitter won’t hear of re-signing Walusimbi while balance has not been paid and doesn’t seem likely to ever be paid…Good lesson for his greed though rushing to sell star players mid-season hence sacrificing our Caf Campaign
