Oktay: I was confident of Beating Bandari

Prior to the Tuesday match against Bandari, Gor Mahia had not won in their last five matches. It appeared the train was coming off the tracks.

Coach Oktay however says he was not worried.

“I said it before the match that we will beat Bandari, I knew how to approach the game and I am very happy that my players played according to instructions,” Oktay told goal.com

A later winner from Jacque Tuyisenge secured the three points and saved Kogalo from a third consecutive draw which would have elicited panic amongst the Kogalo faithful.

“We dominated them in both halves, and honestly speaking, a draw could have been a painful result for my side because what Bandari did was sit back and defend, they never wanted to attack us. They opted to shield their keeper and made it difficult for my strikers to find the target.” continued Oktay

During the Ulinzi match two days earlier, Kogalo were foiled by shoddy refereeing which gifted Ulinzi with a dubious penalty while ignoring the soldiers rough play. Oktay thinks this time the officiating was better.

“He did a good job compared to what we have seen in our past two matches against Homeboyz and Ulinzi Stars. Overall, it was a fair game from the referee, he was far better than the rest and he deserves praise.” said Oktay

Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala was disappointed and thought his side should have played better in injury time.

“There was panic in the last minutes of the game and we allowed them to score a header. It was painful to allow a goal after a good play within the regulation time. My philosophy was to attack them which was the case until we drew back to defend a counterattack which ended up in the net. I was impressed with my players for their good show and their brevity. We still have a chance to catch up with them.” he told the Star.

Gor Mahia next take on Mount Kenya United on April 25. The schedule will be hectic as Gor Mahia play 7 matches in 14 days.

OKTAY , did you just say Bandari? I thought you meant Zamalek. Rather Esperance or Alhaly. That’s where we belong man. That’s our class. Tell Zico to translate this for you ” magi walawogo dhowa”.

I the referee who officiated Gor vs Ulinzi match has watched the video clip so that he can explain why he awarded the penalty while there was no body contact between the two players. If anything the Ulinzi player should have been carded for simulation. Awuoro referee kochamo mlungula.

@Jakoyo Dhi duanyri kucho. If you have nothing to say don’t say it here. What has the coach said that you dislike. In modern day football coached are interviewed before and after matches. In certain leagues like EPL it mandatory and punishable if a manager denies the media an interview on the match day. Oktay like any other coach has the right to say what he thinks of his team and players. I don’t think that he follows the media with stories but rather the media follows him. Give us a break.

  • It’s really miserable to see how Kenyan coaches lack confidence. While not taking away the Gor victory from the coach, no Kenyan coach will ever challenge Gor to a fair fight, they would rather sit back and defend with an aim of getting a draw. Once a draw is achieved, what follows is a week-long interview on how they planned the game accompanied with insinuations of grandeur;
… Gor is beatable …I told my boys to cut them off …Gor cannot handle me …I can coach Brazil … I am looking at top two …the weather favoured Gor …I can…. I can…
When will we ever see a Kenyan coach coming out to face Gor in a fair fight. No time wasting, no Matano rough-house policy, no referee favoured them WAILS nor the over-used Shikalo “dive and stay down for 15minutes” technic.
These so called coaches then try to convince you that they too can handle Harambee Stars and beat the likes of Ghana or Tunisia.

Most of the Kenya premier league teams lack ambition. The likes of mathare utd, sofa, bandari etc start the league very well then somewhere along the way they ran out of steam.

Then all sorts of excuses start being thrown around…sijui my boys were tired after a long journey, mara my dependable players were injured, mara Gor was favoured, mara were unlucky and all manner of excuses here and there.

Yet in the field of play they have negative tactics…time wasting,no attack, nothing. Then you want to blame Gor for all your shortcomings?it doesn’t work that way!!

Stand up and be worthy challengers…Gor has been top of their game for what?7?8 years?what have other teams been doing??

We are in the verge of loosing Jacques Tuyisenge to Yanga of Tanzania. What is Gor Mahia EC doing about it?

Don’t you see that Jasego Wuod Kanyada is silent? His silence speaks volumes. His only E tasks have been delegated to the equally enterprising Teddy Ja Entebbe. Meanwhile he is filling the void about to be left by Jausenge. Tuko gangari.

As I have said before a Dominant Gor will just kill football in Kenya and also kill itself. a dominant Gor will not attract any sponsorship other than the inevitable once like spotpesa. a dorminant Gor will not nature talent, will not create space for younger players. A dominant Gor will attract coaches who cannot compete internationally but Talk BIG when the win against local teams. A dominant Gor will leave Harambee with very few selection options hence dominated by foreign legions who come back to keep fit but avoid injury at all cost. I dominant Gor will not attract funs to the stadium. I dominant Gor is complacent, broke in ideas and resources, not the best employer – but best of the available employers. A dominant Gor sits well with short sighted, less ambitious leadership who do not want to risk the status quo whether with the funs, players and coach

Otkay must know that it will take a lot of him to be appreciated i.e. in continental events. Gor is Dominant locally.

A team came in the name of Mt Kenya, the expectations were high that at last a team by that name, all the moneyed Mt Kenyans would come together and build a real formidable football team but alas! Mbeca, mbeca, who in that side of the world would part with a dime in support of… just a minute… football? What’s that? The miserable Mt Kenya FC, has just handed Kogalo a walk over…all in the name of MBECA. Awuoro

“I have tried to convince the players to honour this match but they have refused. They are way within their rights not to play so there is nothing I can do,” explained the coach.

Our players are angels “they threaten but still play”. Please spare them any pending disciplinary action
