Olunga and Shakava elated with performance
Michael Olunga is certainly the man of the moment in Kenya football. He carries on his broad shoulders, the hopes of many Kenya fans. For a long time Kenya has been largely dependent on Dennis Oliech to spearhead the attack. And for a long time there seemed to be no striker on the horizon ready to replace Oliech. That is until Olunga joined Gor mahia this season. Though he had a few flashes of brilliance while at Thika United, it is at Gor Mahia that Olunga has met his potential. His form at club level has been excellent. His form for the various national teams has been superb. Most notably his performance against Zambia where he was one of the few bright spots. Then there was his hat trick against Botswana in the Olympics qualifiers.
Olunga credits the performance against Mauritius to teamwork and a good game plan.
“We have started well and we want to build on that. We want to forget the bad run that we have been having for a long time and we want to take the win as a stepping stone for this campaign. “Hopefully we will post good result on Sunday,”
“It was a tough game but we came knowing we had to win for our nation and fans. We put a good effort and at the end of the day the result was positive. Everyone worked according to the coach instruction. The plan was to score early and this time round we defended as a unit because in our past games, we have been scoring early but end up conceding,” said, Olunga to Capital FM.
Former Gor Mahia Coach Bobby Williamson also credits teamwork for the win
“It was a good performance. I saw a tremendous improvement in the midfield department, and the way the midfielders coordinated with the attackers was just perfect.
Harun Shakava who was a late call up to the national team, made the most of his opportunity by getting his name on the scoresheet. Shakava was one of the players called up as coach Bobby Williamson sought to change the team that lost to Zambia. The towering central defender who joined Gor Mahia from Kakamega Homeboyz has developed a knack for using his length to score goals. It was his first goal for the national team and Shakava credits his club for his good performance.
“I feel my consistency at club level is paying off. I have been working very hard in all assignments and getting such a chance means a lot to me. I must thank my teammates and the entire Gor Mahia fraternity for the support not forgetting the national team coaches,” added the former Kakamega Homeboyz defender. My target is to continue working to cement my place in the national team. It will not be easy, I know that but step by step I will get there.” he said to futaa.com

@ingo, I wish AFC would be doing the right thing to lift the National Team as well. Nobody is speaking of Oguda, Rachier, Ref etc………same players
Olunga: A good player but supported by weak midfield. Wanyama V. needs to be dropped from this team. This guy adds no value and is simply interested in parading himself as pro in the English league. He cannot give any meaningful pass and I wonder how S.hampton plays him. Ayub Timbe is good but he needs to realise Harambee stars is a team of ten other players. His show off stints are boring to watch. His contribution for example on the Zambian match was basically zero. Amwayi of Ulinzi has shown that he is the nxt revelation in Harambee stars. Keep it up. The guy is very effective even in his club. Olunga et B.Oluoch remain as the other most effective players in the line. But if the game played in Mauritius is anything to go buy then Harambee stars need to change the coach. B.Williams is a gentleman but he is not a coach of quality. For one, any serious coach would have resigned given how FKF has handled the team preparation. As Musa.O, he is the typical Kenya coach. Frank Nutall or even Loga would do a better job in Harambee stars. They both do not entertain non-sense from players. Harambee stars need discipline in and off the pitch more than anything else. I do not understand how seven players in a national team cannot make an accurate passes.
The coaches I would consider for the Kenyan job;
1. A. Kingi; The only problem is that he is Kenyan coach, who have shown that they are basically weak minded and cannot control players. Fkf also has no respect for them anyway.[Rank 3]
Credit: Turned Mathare UTD into some team nobody could beat. He could easily turn youth into talent.
2. Matano: His good quality is that he is disciplinarian, but does not know how to control it or make it look diplomatic. Easily resorts to blame game when defeated. Too much copying of Mourihno tactics.[Rank 4]
Credit: Has only option of using local players but has done well.
3. Logarusic: Good in team tactics and discipline. Can throw away the likes of Wanyama without blinking. His problem is that he is overly dramatic and nobody needs that. [Rank 2]

4. Nuttal: So far the best quality coach in all departments. [Rank 1]
Credit: Has tactics nobody can beat so most opponent coaches would rather just blame the ref and foreign players.
Kudo’s Mike, if all Players wuold have been operating like Olunga Mike, Harrambee Stars, I tell you for free, Kenya would have apeared in the World-Cup for the first time. Olunga is a Striker but sometimes when the Back-lines are overwhelmed Mike is there to support them. And I do not understand why somebody like Allan Wanga can be kept in the Field for such long time? when Amwayi came in you could feel the change of the Game.Let the TB, of Harrambee Star’s should not depend on names or the past experience. Those Old guards should be introduced in the Field for the last 15 minutes towards the end of Game.That’s my observations what of your’s?
