Olunga nominated for SOYA awards

Kenyan footballers are very rarely nominated for the Kenya Sportsman of the year award. For 2015 however Gor Mahia ace Michael Olunga is among 5 other sportsmen nominated for the annual award. Olunga had a phenomenal year in 2015. He was the second leading scorer in the premier league and scored more goals than anyone in international games. He was also top scorer in the 2015 CECAFA cup.

Olunga will have to compete with Track athletes Asbel Kiprop, Ezekiel Kemboi and Julius Yego.  Also nominated if hockey goalkeeper Linus Kipkemboi.

Olunga was nominated in the most promising sportsman category in 2013. Other Gor Mahia players who have been nominated in the past are George Odhiambo (2010) and Dan Sserunkuma (2012). In 2009, Blackberry was voted the most promising sportsman. And in 2010, Zedekiah Otieno was voted coach of the year after he steered a youthful Gor Mahia side to the brink of winning the league.

This year, on the women’s side the list includes the top lady shooter of 2015 Nune Bonaya, top marathoner Florence Kipgalat and Gladys Cherono.

Bonaya just fell short of making history when she finished second in the Kenya Open Bisley tournament.

Attacker Mercy Moim, Malkia’s strikers top scorer from the world grand prix who recently signed for a Finnish club and Naomi Wafula, the leading lady golfer complete the women’s list.

When conducted, former Organizing Secretary Peter Lichungu one of the committee members dismissed Akwana’s trials at RTI saying the recruitment process is ongoing at Marist.

@Jakoyo, it’s true AR has really stabilized our ship. We have never had such a stabilizing factor for long, especially during such turbulent times. The only thing I would like him to do is build strong structures. As fans we would like to take some of the burden off his shoulders. This can be done through proper membership, with benefits for both club and the members. We would also like to have a say on some of the Governance issues e.g motivation of the team members (both TB and players).
I don’t expect AR to do this but one of the EC members can tae that as their pet project and run away with it

Gor Mahia close in on sponsor ahead of 2016 season

Goal understands that the league champions are in serious talks with a company which has its roots in the UK

Gor Mahia will have a shirt sponsor before the new SportPesa Premier League season starts.

Goal understands that the league champions are in serious talks with a company which has its roots in the United Kingdom. The company sponsors one of the teams in the English Premier League and is keen to set up in the Kenyan market.

A source in the club confirmed the same and expressed delight that this will change their fortunes for the better. “The talks for the company to come on board are at an advanced stage and we should be signing a deal soon. We are confident that this will be before the new season starts,” said our source.

The three time KPL champions have been without a sponsor since Tuzo pulled out more than one year ago.

@Ombeng, we will get another Kagere,. Currently Kiwanuka , formerly of Ushuru is a free agent. The guy can easily fit Kagere’s shoes. Alternatively let’s go for the Rwandese Captain who wanted to join Gor , according to his comments during CECAFA in Ethiopia.
Even Agwanda can be groomed to play that role

We will get another Kagere. His demand from the rumors and EC was too high.
