Philemon, Kahata in action as Kenya beats Madagascar

Gor Mahia’s Philemon Otieno was once again deployed at full back while Francis Kahata was in midfield on Friday in Paris as Kenya beat Madagascar 1-0. Former Kogalo captain Musa Mohamed also started in central defence.

A number of former Kogalo players started on the bench including. Joash Onyango, David Owino, Eric Ouma, Anthony Akumu. The match was played at Stade Robert Boban.

The goal came in the 64th minute when captain Victor Wanyama converted from the spot.

Madagascar were the better side in the first half and had the first good attempt at goal: Andriamatsino Charles, saw his shot came off the bar in the 22nd minute.

Madagascar should have opened the scoring in the 42nd minute when goalkeeper Patrick Matasi conceded a penalty after fouling Martin Tsilavina . Matasi redeemed himself by saving the penalty from Andriamatsino .

In the second galf, coach Migne decided to rest Musa Mohammed for Joseph Okumu, while Michael Olunga and Eric Ouma came on John Avire and Eric Johannah, respectively.

Madagascar are making their first appearance at AFCON. Kenya has been there 5 times (1972, 1988, 1990, 1992, 2004).

  • All the best legend Zico.

We should get Ouna whom i consider a serious coach.

  • Yes…indeed ! after a record breaking season for zico, the first in CECAFA club history to guide any club both as a player and a coach into CAF quarterfinals, 3 times successive league champion, building meanest defense in club history etc etc, is no mean achievement and bound to attract 6 figure salary contract…..offers from zambia, Tanzania, wazito fc and zanzibar have been coming in and there is also possibility of him reuniting with Kerr who is on his way to either Ethiopia or Sudan.

Am surprised Migne did not list him on the AFCON bound technical bench…may be he doesn’t speak much French.

    Will keep you updated ..

    • you should have updated us on zicos before reading with us and then trying to hoodwink us you know more than the rest of us.pls keep it simple.

      • What Zico needs most right now is to upgrade his coaching qualifications…he should go for the UEFA B or UEFA A coaching licence to really be sought after coach in Africa. His lack of proper coaching badges will always limit his progress

  • Yes Zico is a legend but he can’t handle Gor Mahia with his mabeste attitude. Gor is over and above the likes of Zico’s coaching calibre apart from introducing weeds smoking to players.

Congrats to Kisumu Allstars for gaining promotion to the SPL. This shows that there is still a pool of players that Gor can bank on from that region.. Wazito are also welcome to set up the admin standards in SPL
