Polack concerned about the defense
As this weekend’s mashemeji derby approaches, coach Steve Polack is expressing his concern about the rate at which Gor Mahia is conceding goals.
“I must admit I am very concerned with how we are conceding goals. I am all concerned about the goals we let in, we were 3-0 up against [Stima] and it is not a good show to allow them back into the game, very unfortunate that you can lead 3-0 and the end result is 3-2, it means there is something my players are not doing right.” Polack said to goal.com
Polack has identified the issues that need to be addressed.
“Against [Stima] we let in easy goals, the second goal should have not gone in and overall, we have been repeating the same mistakes which is not good at all especially when you are fighting to retain the league title.” Polack continued
Polack says he will spend this week working to rectify the errors that have resulted in the numerous conceded goals.
“We must work hard to keep the ball, and we will work on that this week and the players also need to know in football you must stay on your feet unless you can get the ball and don’t go down on your back unless you know you can get the ball and this are the basics we need to work on. We need to train on these basics and everything will be fine.” he concluded.
The attack will also need to be sharp against an AFC side that has not been conceding goals of late.
Former Gor Mahia attacker Francis Afiriyie believes Gor Mahia have the key to unlock the AFC defence.
“But playing Kipkirui and Balinya together will put the back four under pressure which might force them into making mistakes that Gor Mahia can capitalise on.” Afiriyie told goal.com
Afiryie also offered his tactical prescription
“Gor Mahia have to apply pressure on Leopards in the first 45 minutes; by doing this, they will limit their opponents from attacking freely. However, if K’Ogalo sit back, they will be in problems because of their defence. It is going to be tough, but I believe Gor have a better chance of winning the game.” Afriyie concluded.
Am not sure where exactly the problem in defense is… Is it the goalkeepers that we have been interchanging or the full backs? Why did we buy a left back when we already had Geoffrey ochieng seemingly doing well in that position and with batambuze on the road to recovery?
The other day he wa concerned about the strikers, today it’s the defense …..he is basically saying that he is concerned with the whole team. When will you be concerned with the technical bench coach?

Who have Efusi played in thaf the opportunity to field he last 5 matches and do those teams have an attack like ours??? Beating Chemelil 1 nil is nothing to write home about!! Here are the
FACTS:
Gor Mahia have not had the time to field their BEST defenders in the games where they have conceded more than one goal. This will be corrected if J. Onyango and Philemon Otieno are fielded to complement the efforts of Apudo, Geoffrey Ochieng and Momanyi. Missing the solidity of Maestro Tobias Otieno in the middle of the pack is the only real concern to the team. I watched Ousu once and he looked like he can have stormy game if he wakes up on the right side of the bed. Wendo can do a decent job on the Shemeji if we have to use him. We have El Capitan, Lawrence Juma, B. Omondi and Kipkirui. These Four players are more than capable for winning for us the derby. On a good day, Samuel Onyango and Miheso will be a handful for any defence in the KPL.
In our ranks are players who have played in several derby games and scored in those games. L. Juma, Omondi B., Miheso, Muguna, Ondiek, Kipkirui are all players who have scored against Efusi in a Derby match. I believe they will be more than driven and psychologically prepared to press home this dvantage over Efusi. In their current roster, only Oburu Vincent has scored against us.
I don’t believe Efusi’s defence, midfield and attack have been put under so much pressure like the one they will experience on 8/3/20. They will crack under this pressure and concede goals against Gor Mahia. Owusu or Wendo and L. Juma must at all times put Austin Odhiambo of no. (23) of Efusi under so much pressure that he gets substituted or performs below par. Rupia is a good player but I believe in J. Onyango and Momanyi he will meet his Waterloo. Because Marvin Nabwire will not be playing (injured), Efusi will not have that wing aggression that he provides. We will only have J. Odeny to deal with from the wings. Clyde Senaji is banned for this match and therefore they will resort to using Saad in the holding role. He is solid but the double pivot of Owusu and L. Juma should be able to outwit him.
S. Onyango, B. Omondi, D. Ambudo, Lavatsa or even Miheso all have their work cut out for them in the wing play. Whoever plays will be required to hug the line to isolate the fullbacks and the centre backs. In doing this they will force the centre backs to always look for them and create a huge space between the lines for our strikers to exploit. Man City used this system in beating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu recently. Kipyegon and Shivachi will be employed in either fullback role by Efusi. We can target them and spring surprise attacks using the speed of either S. Onyango, B. Omondi or the trickery of D. Ambundo. R. Kamura and Robert Mudenyu will be fielded in the centre baçk by Efusi. They are good players but I believe our strikers I’ll do a good job on them. It is sad that Coach Pollack has never settled on who our no 1 goalkeeper should be. The team has been conceeding goals very easily. This is a big problem for any good team. The defence must be consistently alert without commiting fouls. Quick regrouping to overload their strikers in terms of numbers as they strike will carry the day.wish you victory.
