After retaining his post as the chairman of Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia in the club elections held on Sunday 19 January 2014 at the Nyayo Stadium’s Basketball Court, Ambrose Rachier stepped on the podium with plenty of promises for the entire family.

The professional lawyer said among many that he will erect a stadium for the team with changing the club’s constitution to reflect that of the national government part of his priority.

Commend the work done

-Gor Mahia has spoken and the work continues. I wish to thank all members who showed up to cast their votes at the same time commend the good work done by the electoral board, indeed they (elections) were free and fair, said Rachier after being announced the winner.

-For those who were not elected, you still have a chance in the office, I welcome your ideas so that we can map out proper strategies to build Gor Mahia since this enormously known club is for us all, he added.

KPL chairman

-This is the term that Gor will have its own stadium and a new constitution resembling the national governments. Together with the elected officials we promise to turn around Gor Mahia’s image further.

He also promised to wipe out hooliganism in his renewed era. Rachier beat his closest challenger Dr. Eric Adede to retain the seat. He is currently the KPL chairman as well.

If u mean that u will endevour 2 have a GM branch in every county or at least 27 counties because Nairobi can provide 10 branches, Mombasa 5 & Kisumu 5.
If each branch has 500 members & every member contributes 5bob/day.
    This translates to 47 branches x 500members x 365days x 5bob raises kshs. 42,887,500 in membership fees.
Best way is too guarantee transparency & form a cooperative.
Paw Akuche incumbents or aspirants will never reduce the size of the EC its not in their interest. That’s……

a matter for members to push since to me a lean EC is more effective & efficient in decision making, divisions & conflicts are reduced.
That said let’s give this EC (despite the size) the benefit of doubt & our support. I think the most divisive elements were rejected or opted out.
If roles r properly defined then this EC may effectively spread the duties without the need for a full time secretariat. Let’s be flexible now that the die is cast for the next 2 years.

  • Mr. Chairman,

Congratulations again. However, I do not think that you are being realistic with you goal to have a stadium in place for Gor before the end of your term in office. First and foremost, Gor is in process of preparing for Africa. All resources and efforts are therefore being channeled in that direction. Secondly it takes time to find money to buy the land. After the Money for the land has been obtained, the next step is to find the location. This would be a big challenge and club politics is surely going to take it place at this stage. After this step is complete, you are looking at another 6 to 12 months of architectural, Civil and structural design (based on my experience as an engineer). Permits and Utility relocation the follows. Add another 3 to 12 months for this. As an engineer, I would project about 1 year of uninterrupted construction time (Look at how long Kisumu Stadium has taken to be refurbished). You now see why I’m saying you are not being realistic?

My suggestion for the two big clubs in Kenya is this. First stabilize you financial status by acquiring something like rental property, transport business etc. After this has been done and you dont have to worry about player and technical bench costs for both local and international matches, then you can now venture into Stadiums and such. Until then, this will continue to be a dream unless you are looking to build something like Woodley Stadium in Kibera

  • Mr Ingo the chairman stated before election that he is going to start the process not to finish it before his term,@ Oduor12 have happened to see the draft constitution that which is not yet out but i can tell u its one of the best,it only has the position of the chair and its deputy the other positions will be nominated the go for the vetting process of which the panelist are the office, the FKF,KPL,Commission of sports, and the government,so i hope the members will pass the constitution when time comes so all this nonsense of sijui deputy, assistant senior vice 1st vice na kadhalika will seize.

Land is there n thats the most important thing, clear it then give branches mandate 2erect perimeterwall. Building Afraha type stadi is less than 5m.or talk 2abuilding society 2do it at there own cost then uwl b payn back.while we pay 5000/=per 1hr 2train we can clear that land n grass wl grow so we train 4r free.if we can get 3.6m in get collection in one match why cant we use that 2buy club hse 4r coach.

@ Erico thanx 4 the insight but clarify the following please:
    1. Chair & deputy to be nominated or elected. If its nomination by who & what’s the role of members?
    2. Why should FKF,KPL etc do the vetting. Will they be members of GM.
To me if that’s the proposed constitution then it seems the intention is to give control of GM to a select few, very suspect indeed!

  • The chairman and his deputy are elected by members of GOR MAHIA Family, then now the other offices are selected through the panel that is constituted by the said bodies and all this by the way is in the current sports act so we just have to conform with it,but election are there
