Second half masterclass see Gor Mahia blast Thika 5-2
Gor Mahia, having recently been buoyed by their qualification for the group stage of the 2018 CAF Confederations cup, put on a spectacular display when they beat Thika United 5-2 on Sunday. And they had to do it after going behind twice. But their second half masterclass will surely put a smile on coach Dylan Kerr’s face given that he has been worried about his team’s ability to score.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 22- Samuel Onyango, Meddie Kagere and Francis Kahata stepped off the bench to score as Gor Mahia regained their spot on top of the Kenyan Premier League standings with a 5-2 win over Thika United at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.
The game had been tied at 2-2 before Onyango scored the third for Gor in the 74th minute then Kagere took a well taken goal off a counter in the 89th minute. However the cream of the afternoon was left for Kahata who sublimely lifted the ball over Allan Owiny two minutes later for Gor’s fifth.
The win saw Gor Mahia move to 25 points, two ahead of second placed Mathare United who lost 1-0 to Wazito on Saturday. K’Ogalo have three matches at hand due to their participation in the CAF Confederations Cup.
It was a happy ending for Gor with their afternoon having started off with three of their fans perishing in an accident as they travelled to Machakos to cheer on the team. The fans were allegedly precariously hanging on a bus before they toppled off after the vehicle came into contact with another saloon car.
On the field, Gor almost paid for some bit of laxity with Thika taking control with a 2-1 lead on the hour mark, but keeper Allan Owiny took the glimmer off teammates Masakidi Mata’s beauty of a freekick after pushing Jacques Tuyisenge’s shot into his own net four minutes later.
Gor Mahia ended the opening half with a collective huge sigh of relief, Ephraim Guikan drawing them level with a well taken first time effort after a sleek through pass from Tuyisenge that split the defense.
The visitors had gone ahead early in the fourth minute when Eugene Mukangala curled a well taken shot past Shabaan Odhoji who was starting ahead of the rested Boniface Oluoch.
Gor Mahia had lost the ball in midfield and when Mukangula was played through, he set himself up with the first touch before taking a shot.
Thika had started the match swift with Gor Mahia yet to settle in and after going ahead, they should have added a second when Baraka Badi’s low cross from the right landed on Edmond Adem’s path, but the forward miscued his shot.
Despite the slippery conditions of the pitch, Gor Mahia started growing into the game and had a chance with a freekick from the edge of the box on the quarter hour mark but Tuyisenge curled the effort over.
K’Ogalo continued to raid Thika as they searched for the equalizer and in the 23rd minute, Tuyisenge accidentally blocked what looked like a goal bound shot from Lawrence Juma who had taken a shot from a Guikan cutback.
They came closest on the half hour mark when skipper Harun Shakava’s shot from inside the box came against the crossbar after being put through by debutant Raphael Sudi who had dribbled past a forest of legs at the edge of the box.
Four minutes from the break, Innocent Wafula charged down from the right and managed to slap in a low cross, but the ball could only go straight into Allan Owiny’s arms with Guikan salivating at the edge of the six yard box.
Gor’s pressure finally bore fruit two minutes to the break when Guikan found the back of the net, Sammy Mejja playing him on side and the Ivorian racing to a Tuyisenge through pass before beating Owiny.
Thika were forced into a change at the stroke of half time when Adem was forced out injured with a muscle strain and his place taken by Hansel Ochieng.
In the second half, Thika came back with pace again and eight minutes after the restart, Mukangula’s header from a Mata cross went inches over the bar.
However, seven minutes later, Mata was wheeling away in celebration after curling a sublime freekick over the wall, the ball bumping in the inside of the post on its way into the net with keeper Odhoji left dumbfounded.
But the lead only lasted three minutes as keeper Owiny’s hilarious howler brought Gor back into the game. The keeper first rushed out to cut off an onrushing Tuyisenge but missed the ball completely.
As if that was not enough, Tuyisenge’s shot was blocked by Franko Bala, but the keeper rushing back to his line pushed the ball into his own net as he attempted to tip it over.
Gor struck the winner in the 74th minute when Innocent Wafula lifted the ball over Owiny on the left and on onrushing Onyango side footed it home unmarked from the right.
Kagere then finished off the job barely 10 minutes after coming on,

Musa should not re-join the club, let him face the consequences. we bitterly complained about the abuse ( racial, financial, social and cultural ) at tirana fc but all fell on deaf ears ! the list of returnees continue to grow……………next is miguna and eric marcelo ouma.
Congratulations in order for todays win but local league is a bore . secondly, that pitch is simply horrible, a matter of time before disaster happens…we better switch to bukhungu stadium or mumias complex for the confederation home matches !
That pitch is a disaster in waiting. Continuing to use it may lead to injury of players. But what options do we have?
Players will always seek greener pastures because their careers are short. I don’t have a problem with a player wanting to enhance his career. I would welcome back any of these players: Muguna, Marcelo, Musa, Aucho, Abondo, even Kizito, …………………..
If Musa wants to come back home, let us welcome him back. We did the same to BB

@Jakoyo, I am in agreement with you on Musa. These lads do not deserve to come back. He refused to extend his contract with Gor Mahia because he wanted to enjoy sign on fee. If he comes back, what will happen to our young upcoming defenders? There are many football clubs in Kenya and Musa should join any of these Kpl teams.
In future all Gor Mahia players that want to thrive in their future football careers with our clubs elsewhere should learn to leave the club in good books than sinking the boat internally. Players intending to leave Gor Mahia in future should get the club’s blessings and they will succeed wherever they decide to relocate..

Ingwe lost to Bandari thus easing pressure, tension and pang’ang’a on Kogallo.
Thika planned to score their usual one goal then park their bus but what followed will remain written in their history.
It’s funny to have a Kenyan premier league table where after matchday 12, Sony, Tusker and Thika are battling relegation.
We should avoid hanging onto these buses. Some of our problems are avoidable jothurwa. Our roads are currently in bad shape, accidents happen daily. Let’s take precaution when using these matatus. Let’s avoid hanging on them.

My condolences to the families of the departed Kogalo fans. Very sad and unfortunate. The Sad thing is that fans will still continue hanging dangerously on vehicles even after this sad incident.
Congratulations to the boys for a deserved win on a torturous ground that is wrongly referred to as a football pitch .
This guy Guikan is in my view , the answer to our striking problems , the way he placed the ball passed the keeper is a confirmation in my view that the guy has a football brain.
This guy called Joash Onyango has to brain up , the ball was closer to him than to the thika guy , the foul he caused could have been avoided , sadly this is not an isolated incident from this guy.
To the fans who lost their lives , I say pole to u and your families but when wil we ever have a situation where u dont have to behave recklessly like travelling on top of the buses , some situations r avoidable but some people r impossible to advise .
Lastly a big upto the TB and the EC , I know the EC have their weaknesses but they have their strengths to , thats y despite those weaknesses , we r the best performing club in the country and amongst the best in the region.

There is a time I said that any team that comes to play with attack in mind will always soak in goals. If you remember very well, all the teams that were playing to score against Gor Mahia ended up conceding goals but those who came to park the bus will receive few goals. Kudos to the team, I watched the match on viusasa and the game just wonderful.

My respect,love and admiration for Sir Kerr the Great is well known here.So allow me good people to point out to him through wise counsel that Innocent Wafula remains our most potent under utilized utility player who is as good as Karim Nizigiyimana on right back.He matches the former on all aspects including overlapping,tracking back,building play from behind and attacking the opponents final third thereby limiting their wingers from venturing into ours.Yesterday he was my silent Man of the Match.Utilised more often & with Walusimbi of fullback 3,our Blitz Kraigh sudden & powerful wing attack play can be rediscovered to torment opponents im Caf assignment.Musymo weigh in…
Same observation here. The only downside of Wafula is he sometimes unnecessarily stays with the ball too long. I saw yesterday a time when he should have given a cut back pass to an open player but he chose to run with the ball to the edge of the field then attempted to do a cross at a very tight angle. If he can make quick decisions on when to pass and when to dribble, then he would be one of the best.
It is true the indecision lets him down severally. Sometimes he stays with the ball when the better option would have been to pass to a player in a more prime position. That is an aspect of his craft he needs to work on!!!

Do you think Musa is guaranteed or will win back a place in the GMFC first eleven? Let him come for trials and then TB determines his fate, that’s the correct route BEFORE EC engages him on contractual negotiations. Hatutaki PASSENGERS K’OGALO. Examples are Kevin Ade and Mieno who are yet to live upto their “high ratings”. Let’s not just fall for the “big name/ senior player” hype but rather appreciate Kerr’s merit based approach that gives newboys a chance e.g Asudi was much more effective and productive. To me we still need a GK who can save the day for us, as for a striker will the competition currently existing improve the scoring rate or was yesterday a one off? Time will tell. To EC no free transfer exists come June, TO FKF, COUNTY AND NATIONAL GOVERNMENT WE NEED A PROPER SOCCER STADIUM ESPECIALLY IN THE CAPITAL CITY.

I like Musa as a person and as a player but as to whether we should have him back to kogalo , I beg to differ , we cant run a club on feelings and memories such that it becomes a trend that u can always make life defining decisions knowing Gor mahia is availably waiting to welcome u back , my counsel to the remaining players is that u going professional is a dream u must have , but let the scouts come for u coz then u can then bargain from a position of strength , a starting point is the Caf cup u r currently engaged in , a good show and u r good to go , what has happened in the case of Musa , Marcello and even Ade is that they landed on the laps of agents who were more concerned with their immediate personal comissions and not the players , be wary of such , play well in the caf competition and serious guys will come for you .

The story was that Musa discontinued contact with Tirana, I didn’t see anything that Musa wants to come back Kogalo, but if he wants, why not. Like everyone else he had a right to try his boots elsewhere, football life is short, if it has not worked for him, and he wishes to come back, I do not see anything wrong with that. He served the team well for nine years and some do not appear to appreciate that.
JTGI Musa has categorically reached out to AR on his sincere wish to come back to K’Ogalo,sentiments however remain sharply divided with some proposing No sign on fees as reprimand for his leaving us.Me am all for his rejoining the club,the boy joined us straight from high school and knows no other home other than Mayienga koko…
Its official, Sportpesa are back. To mitna. Mungu si Asmani na tena halali. They have come back at the right time. Players can now focus on the pitch. KSh.198 Million for 3 years is not bad. I want to thanks the EC for negotiating this new deal. EC work behind the scenes and not on chat groups. This is a practical example of EC’s efforts. I know there are a few of us who still want to argue about it.

@jasego, I have always asked myself why Sir Kerr does not trust Innocent Wafula enough. I had revisited the issue yesterday immediately after the match in the previous thread before this one came up. He has sidelined him for most of the season and even making the bench has been hard for him. I and many others who have watched him before will tell you he is one of the most talented players not just in Gor but Kenya as a whole. Yesterday, he proved his mettle with arguably the Man of the Match performance. Sheer confidence on the way he takes on opposing defenders, never say die attitude that see him rarely lose possession and skilled delivery in to the box are qualities he possesses that other players ahead of him in Lerr’s pecking order sorely lack. Kerr has the job and chooses his squad at his own discretion but he is making a mistake by sidelining Wafula. The saddest part is that after his virtuoso perfomance, Kerr will most likely ignore him again. I suspect he only played full time because Joachim had played down south and Kerr wanted to rotate. About Musa, I would like to say that he should be taken back like yesterday, Joash is a good defender but keeps on making costly schoolboy errors and Kerr prefers him ahead of the more solid Momanyi(prefects please keep your….’the coach is with the players everyday and knows the players best……let the TB do its job bullshit to yourself because we all also see these players output in the field. We have conceded the fewest goals but more credit goes to Bonny’s heroics and you just need to play Odhoji for a few more games and we shall have shipped more goals like Ingwe. Still on the topic of goalkeeper what did Peter do to relegatehim to third choice after performing so well last season to the extent of almost isplacing Bonny? With Odhoji deputising, out of the 5 goals we have conceded, he has conceded 4 yet he has played only 3 games of the 9 this season. Back to Musa, let us not behave like women to keep holding grudges about whathe said or this and that and admit that defence need him so welcome him back on the conditions that he gets no sign on fees and Shakava remains captain. Finally Sportpesa is back and that is a big relief. When we mentioned this yesterday, Jakoyo strongly disputed and this is the third time this season that his prophecies of doom have come to naught after his ‘inside info’ of the league matches of a certain weekend not being played and boycott by KPL captains. I thought the coach give players a chance based on their performance during training and not during the match day. Inno Wafula may be the best player just like Collins Okoth Gatuso used to be, but the coach is NOT God to know this until the player shows it in training. No player is sacred under Kerr’s regime. Prove to him that you can deliver and he will give you a chance. I don’t think you are a better coach than Kerr, otherwise you should be on the TB as a ball boy if not a kit assistant. For now be contented with sitting at the stands. Kerr does not need your useless advice.

Good work done by the boys and of course the fans but it was also sad that some fans lost their lives enroute to support the team in Machakos just a piece of advice I know we love the team soo much but we should also be take precaution when travelling. This match christined mashemeji derby to be played on 1.5.2018 where the winner will play against hull city on 11.6.2018 is there any financial benefit? if non then For should give the opportunity to the young upcoming players to showcase their talent in that match because they are also to face Rayon Sports on 6.5.2018 and lastly I hope their match against Chemelil fc will be played in Kisumu on 25.5.2018
Since it will be a friendly match, hence, Substitution is not limited , you can substitute the all squad, then it will an opportunity for the club to expose its players. Kogalo will never agree to be bitten by teams from Europe twice, the first one being Everton then Hull city.
I wish to againrevisit this Musa Issue and I wish to reiterate that my opposition to Musa coming back to Gor is not just about Musa and/ or whether he left on a good note or not but for the sake of organisational stability .
I dont wish to imagine a situation whereby its a given that u can leave Gor anytime even an ill considered offer from some opportunists comes along , even throwing tantrums and in some instances even dragging the club through bad press from an ever willing anti Gor media , knowing that if your plans collapse then Gor is again your plan B , that is a sure recipee for instability , these r issues we need to look at comprehensively with our heads and not with our hearts , It is the pride of all to see a player once ours doing well even if not with us , but I refuse to accept that we should be a club that must be treated so casually , we must be a club that is difficult to get into , not a ramshacle walk in walk out structure .
On the issue of Innocent Wafula , I have noted that this a player who is not able to run with the ball facing up and as such he has to slow down , look and then make a cross , this in my opinion a speedy player like Theo Walcott who forever will be in the ” he has got the potential stage , will blow hot today and blow cold the next , changing somebody to run the ball instinctively while looking for options is not easy moreso at his age .
