Shakava: We missed attackers

Gor Mahia skipper Harun Shakava has stated that the club missed the services of Jacque Tuyisenge and Dennis Oliech who were missing due to suspensions and injury respectively.

Additional reporting from the Nation

Gor Mahia captain Harun Shakava has rued the absence of lead strikers Jacques Tuyisenge and Dennis Oliech during Wednesday’s Caf Confederation Cup’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Petro Atletico.

Tuyisenge and Oliech starred as the Kenyan champions easily defeated Egypt’s Zamalek 4-2 in their opening Group ‘D’ match of this competition in Nairobi last week.

This duo was – however – missing in action during Wednesday’s game in Luanda owing to suspension and a foot injury respectively.

“Every team has got dependable players and so yes, we missed them. They (Tuyisenge and Oliech) are currently on form and I am certain they would have made a difference here,” explained the burly Shakava.

At the Estadio 11 de Novembro, Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay replaced Tuyisenge and Oliech with Francis Mustafa and Erissa Ssekisambu.

But the two foreign strikers appeared to struggle to break down a resolute Angolan rear-guard which was manned by the agile Elber in goal.

Infact, it is only after the introduction of rookie Kenyan forward Nicholas Kipkirui that Gor suddenly looked dangerous.

The former Zoo Kericho player ended up scoring a last-gasp consolation for the visitors, a strike that ensures the Kenyan side occupy second place in this four-team group.

With trips to Cairo and Algiers looming for K’Ogalo, Shakava believes it is the home form which will ultimately determine the team’s chances of making it to the quarter-finals of this money-spinning tournament.

“Firstly, we have to cut out the mistakes at the back because at this level you are promptly punished. Next, we need to win all our home games, if you look at the other results keenly, everybody seemed to have won at home.”

“We also have to reduce the mistakes at the back because at this level, you are promptly punished for giving the ball away in your own half.”

Gor’s loss, coupled with that one-all draw between hosts Zamalek and Algeria’s NA Hussein Dey in Cairo, leaves the Kenyan champions second in this group with three points from two games, a point behind the Algerians.

The Angolan club is third with a similar number of points as Gor Mahia, but with an inferior goal difference, whilst the Egyptian club is surprisingly ranked last.

In other selected results of this competition, Zambia’s Nkana FC, which is home to Kenya internationals Musa Mohammed and Duncan Otieno, defeated Sudan’s Al Hilal Omudurman 2-1 in Kitwe.

But then, another Zambian team Zesco United, which is home to the Kenyan trio Jesse Were, David Owino and Anthony Okumu wasn’t as lucky. It lost 2-1 to Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.

Gor Mahia will hope to have Oliech and Tuyisenge available ahead of the next assignment away to NA Hussein Day in Algeria on February 24.

Shakava, tell that your coach that he should have fielded kipkirui earlier with ondiek and not those dander heads called Mustafa and sekisambu in the name of foreigners. In full back two position, ogweno could have done better.

The fielding of both SSekkisambu and Mustafa was a disaster, they both kept falling down, they both lacked creativity, i mean it was a total mess. I think the duo should be fielded in local leagues while awaiting loaning to other clubs for GM to get quality strikers. Secondly GM should try lokuwam, Ondiek et al as they may make difference: why sign players and bench them throughout the season?. I still maintain that GM needs a good goal keeper otherwise we may not go far despite playing good football. Finally can Technical team consider re signing of Walusimbi….?

We must not just field players because they are foreigners. Does Mustapha get play time just because of his Muslim name?

Ssekisambu and Mustapha have been given enough opportunity to improve, but their effort is not good enough. They should therefore be gentlemen enough and give that chance to players like Sammy Onyango, Benard Ondiek and Eliud Lukewarm whenever they realize that they have been picked to play. There is no point grabbing the chance and end up wasting it.

This is my polite request to these two players. I am afraid they have been very disappointing and should they insist on playing, then I foresee the possibility of fans doing a citizens’ arrest and holding them in the terraces until the final whistle during match days.

Hussein Dey are now probably favourites to qualify having held Zamalek in Cairo.if they get results their way in their remaining home games they will qualify.

So,we have to go to Algiers on 24th and try and frustrate them to give ourselves an equal chance of progressing.

Our home record should therefore be 100% and also make sure we can get a positive result away in Algiers and Cairo.

Meanwhile we urgently need to sort out our striking issues.. what we saw in Angola is worrying to say the least.

This is not just about wether the strikers were missing or not. The only person who was noticeably fit was Kipkirui. At one time you can see him indicate to the other players help in recovering the ball. This was a major indicator that something was amiss. The team had all the weaponry to get a good result had the coach given proper guidance.
Shakava is idealess as to the performance of the team. Were the missing stirkers ie Tuyisenge and Oliech the ones supposed to defend the two goals. Shakava is a liability to the Gor defence. Oluoch had better communication(understanding) with Musa Mohammed than what he has with Shakava. Yes Oluoch has his problems but he has at times taken flak for a ‘LAZY’ defence.
Gor still has a good chance like any other team. The moment we start the ‘Mathematics’ is when we will know it’s all over. Gor has to win all it’s home matches and learn how to play the away game.
Why else is Gor in the CCC if all we can do is show fear. Just like Hussein Dey Gor can also draw or win Egypt. Why else do we have a foreign coach!!! Isn’t this why these guyz get hired in the first place.
Gor did not play well against Petro. The team looked lethargic to say the least. Maybe the travel plans were not well laid out. Bogus passing and slow pace is a major undoing in Gor. If Oktay cannot correct this then he better ship out. At the moment I am beginning to think that Sofapaka coach John Baraza would do a better job.

As for goalkeeping on my part I still think Bonnie is our safest bet.Yes he has the occasional lapses but who doesn’t have that?even De gea has those from time to time.

He saves the team more than he sells it.Lastly am struggling to see who would come in and actually steady that department!

Did you watch Gor Vs Zamalek ? the two goals he conceded, I mean it is high time GM considers another person. Everybody has his/her peak performance in life, but if the law of diminishing returns start going against you, then call it quit and allow others also to try. That is my view.

In a nutshell , the problem we have as Gor Mahia is not our opponents rather our problem as Gor Mahia is Gor Mahia itself and this was plainly put in our game against Pedro , not forgetting Lobi stars and Rayon Sports and whatever the reason for this , if we dont correct this lethargy , apathy , casual attitude to serious issues then let
as not expect different results while continuing on the same unserious path we have decided to pursue .
The interest of the team must supersede the narrow interests of the agents representatives in the EC , it doesnt take a rocket scientist to decipher the fact that Mustapha and Ssesikambu were signed for anything but footballing reasons .
I have said this about Batambuze but I will repeat it , that you are not the best defender Gor cant get locally , your strength is overlapping , but if this overlapping produces the mediocre crosses that constitute over 90% of your crosses , then your value in that position is reduced by the same %

@Gilly You’re right and I highly recommend game time for fred, dont forget its our defence who expose them; though the best remedy would be a good goalkeeper trainer, hii tumesema sana, lets hope this time the Tb will heed to it though it wont also be suicidal to have more than two goalkeeper trainers at the team, on the defence; we cant over depend on the tutelage of Shakava to marn it if we’re destined to hold the game. not even the immature Momanyi can thrive in it. Trust me both shakava and momanyi thrive best when paired alongside either joash or joachim,,, the latter cant command the defense and are poor in reading and dictating opponents moves defencewise, and for such I highly recommend either joash or joachim to partner the two; a parnership of momanyi and shakava exposes the keeper mostly when we play without a natural DM, hata huyu mbish sidhani if he can equal the task atajaribu tu though currently he is our prefered RB thus no need to experiment him na let the team struggle on the RB, perhaps let the TB consider securing a natural modern box to box DM for the role and let mbish thrive at rb not forgeting to bring a natural RB come june but let mbish play the RB for the moment ju sidhani if wellington can equal the task best, blackberry is no better of late, very wasetful and loses posession easily, mm consider gametime for ondieki katikati and advance sammy na kachi for the wing role ikibidi, currently for the DM role in the absence of wendo cersidy to partner muguna kachi or lawi and have lethal wingers for crosses but DONT field unfit players like for lawi, and akina mustafa and ssekisambu juzi … kindly consider game time for godfrey at left back(remember the case of mercelo and sibomana the latter gelled well) joachim, cersidy ondieki sammy pascal eliud than overdependance on shakava joash lawi, and even fielding names at the expence of merit(ssekisambu and mustafa and even the sub of bb insttead of sammy then kip and ondieki for the useless ssekisambu and mustafa,, on my view) lasltly TB consider a new matuer dependable centerhalf to help hold onto a game under attacks from opponents, a combative modern CDM to protect the defence, a backap RB for mbish and perhaps a talented mature GK in place of odhoji, otherwise we live to fight another day but let us not continue repeatin the same mistake, last year againast Rayorn it was the RB and CDM kindly let the TB that, waol gi shida achiel achiel pilepile……… onere Afraha.

Change is inevitable, unless players and TB get serious, wish we had a commanding coach of Loga’s instinct, the team is in successfully in a mess; on the fielding, as long as we’ll continue fielding names then the struggle for results will continue,,, majority of our 1st team are mediocre, expect for a few talented who are dedicated; fielding should be on merit not on names besides unfit players should not be fielded yet there are better options to produce results, we have a coach in octay shida ni influence too,,, I wonder how stupid and clueless the TB would filed ssekisambu mustafa and unfit Lawi then bring on bb instead of sammy who all along in past recent marches(hata vihiga na derby) hasnot been delivering ati aokoe jahazi, mmm as a miracle? never not in modern football, pardon my ignorance ,, I rest my case. 3

Zamalek president Mortada Mansour tears into coach Christian Gross

Christian Gross’ job as Zamalek head coach could be on the line following a poor run in the Caf Confederation Cup

Zamalek president Mortada Mansour has castigated coach Christian Gross after the team failed to win in the Caf Confederation Cup for a second successive group game.

The Swiss coach saw his side being held 1-1 at home by Algerian visitors NA Hussein Dey on Wednesday, after also losing 4-2 to Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in their group opener away.

The results have seen Zamalek trapped at the bottom of Group D, inviting the wrath of the outspoken Mansour who criticised Gross’ team selection and tactics.

“When I previously interfered (in team selection) it was my right and because I cared about the team, and I have the right to interfere at any moment,” Mansour was quoted as saying by Kingfut.

“What Gross does is stubbornness and has no other explanation. I don’t seek clash with him for Zamalek fans, it’s not just about the draw and it’s not even related to football. But what happened against NA Hussein Dey is unacceptable, after we had the chance to become group leaders we are now in the bottom.

“Where are Ayman Hefny, Madbouly and Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz? This manager wasn’t convinced about signing Ferjani Sassi and also Hamdy Nagguez, how come he isn’t convinced about Hamid Ahaddad?

“We got knocked out from Arab Championship against Ittihad, lost to a weak side in Kenya. This is difficult to understand.

“Every time I say it’s just this game but things have gone beyond the limits. We are on the top of the league because of the players and our rivals.”

Mansour’s remarks could be suggesting that Gross is sitting on a time bomb and his job is not safe. Zamalek visit Angolan giants Petro Atletico in their next Confederation Cup game.

They, however, lead the Egyptian Premier League with three points ahead of second-placed Pyramids, who have played three more games.

President Mortada Mansour please do not refer to our beloved team as a weak side in Kenya. We decimated you fair and square so Respect us. On a lighter note I like your sentiments on the Coach doing his things and not listening to you hence you say when you interfere in team selection and signings it is because you love the team and not because you wish to cause the Coach acrimony with zamalek fans. I am in No Way the President of GM but nevertheless I find myself in the same situation here at GM where if Coach decides not to listen to my advise and results turn negative then interference in squad selection to field those who can win matches and fight for the team will be done…

      • @Jasego , I have a contrary opinion on the issue on anybody outside the TB interfering vis a vis technical , tactical or team selection , whilst the rants of the Zemalek President makes emotional sense moreso after a bad run , allowing such to overule the coach’s decision is a recipee for chaos , Afc leopards EC is a classic in point , where the EC recruits without the input of the TB and then for reasons best known to the EC , the players are forced down the throats of the technical bench and the chaos at Afc are a case in point , the same seems to be creeping into team Kogalo .
The moment a non technical EC purports to assume that it has superior technical and tactical views than the TB , then all that would mean is that you have the wrong coach .
How on earth can a coach who is with the team 24/7 be less knowledgeable about the team than say Aduda or Rachier or the fans , solicited or unsolicited advise to the coach is welcomed but the final decisions must remain with the coach and the coach alone who then ultimately must take full responsibility for the results
and if the results are not coming as per the terms and conditions that secured him the job, that is when the EC can come in and demand answers .
In a nutshell , everybody must stick to their lane of expertise but I must hasten to add that doing anything to the contrary would just be an affirmation of the deliberate quest to have structureless formations in the club to enable profiteering by those who are in Gor Mahia for anything but Gor Mahia .

I agree Coach Must have final and Only say on team selection and tactics and likewise bear full responsibility for results thereafter..Now look at the irony here i jokingly ruffled feathers but you and BB didn’t find abuses galore as the warranted medium to respond to my comments. Hehe @ moses you ask if training in a rented field can afford enough time yawa? I agree we are very slow and lethagic at times when playing plus very poor on set pieces both executing and defending them. GM can at times get 20 corners in a game i counted towards end of last season and do absolutely nothing with them other than waywardly kicking them out of play or to the opponent GK. Same to free kicks i believe before kahata’s conversion in the recent derby and tuyisenge’s conversion against Yanga away in Caf last season we had gone a almost a year doing nothing with them no matter how prime a position we get them in. We should think about this issue and ensure that we also compete effectively in the shield tournament. Or else, we might find ourself out of African competition. Bloggers, the sentiments about playing time for x or y or z is good but we don’t try players in our matches, Players are tried in training or some low profile matches like friendlies. Picture this, Kipkirui joined yesterday and is getting playing time internationally. Ouma Marcelo joined right from school into first 11 @ Gor and Harambee stars, Oliech from retirement into first 11. If the TB plus additional support from Jasego can bench Kipkirui, and play Mustafa and Ssekisambu, then there are many things we don’t know. What I know about our best players who tried South Africa and did not fit had to find their playing time elsewhere. You can’t hire a professional to warm beach at your cost. EC must take responsibility and bid Mustafa and company bye.Even Walusimbi left in six months.

  • I had the benefit of listening to a 90minute interview of Gor CEO on radio citizen and I got considerable insight of team kogalo and to say the least I was impressed with the interview .
The interview covered the club administrative structure , club membership registration drive , club finances and financing , destructive kogalo fan behaviour , Rumour mongers and generally where we are as a club and why .
On the club administrative structure , a requirement for all clubs as per the club licensing is that all clubs must have only one elective position of the club president who shall then appoint a board that will further appoint the CEO and other relevant directors to run the club on the same lines
that has been ably enumurated on this wall for those who had the intellectual patience to critically read it through , the CEO gave an example of Simba SC with the head being Muhammed Dewji .
The other issue to which clarification I got today was that the Sports Pesa money only covers the domestic league , meaning that for international assignments the club must raise else where and at e.g ksh 7m per trip , it is a strain on the club , it has been theoritically argued on this wall that we can raise that money through gate collections , but how many of the said theoriticians go the stadium if for example a huge weekend Zemalek game barely registered less than 10k fans , same to the Afc derby , baring in mind that to host an international game , the TV coverage , Refs fees and accomodation , stadium hire are all on the hosts , on the domestic front , we have fines on the club from the destruction at kasarani and at machakos KCB game .
On the membership drive, if only 100k of our purported millions of fans turned into supporters paid the ksh 1200 , we would be ksh 120m before we even talk about sports pesa but on this I know am going to get a myriad of creative and innovative reasons why we will not do it but suffice to say a paying member gives considerable concerns about how the club is run apart from deciding who runs the club through availing oneself during elections thus denying the hired hooligans from making critical club decisions on our behalf as we rant , grind and gnash our teeth on social media and public spaces like city hall way ambassador stage .
The only constant in this scenario is the club and the fanbase , the EC, TB and the players will come and go but we the fans and the team are forever and so we have to choose whether to dive headlong , engage and drive towards the nice vision and theories we disengagingly wax lyrical about on social media or forever shut our beaks .
While on this its critical to look at the Barcelona administrative model that was based on the catalan community I.e it was a bottoms up community based model that too cognisance of the love
the community had for it , ofcourse before they got on with it , the doomsayers akin to ours were also there .
Finally , am not one to get excited about these unsustainable ad hoc wins here and there , so long as the club has no sustainable and viable structures to see it into the future , then these small things we get excited about like the win over zemalek are just gonna remain that-unsustainable excitement .

Stringent budgetary constraints meant there was no provision for going to Nakuru yesterday for a 1 day camp. The bus is also small and old. We need a new 52 seater modern super coach for the team. Having listened to concerns raised on fielding and by Virtue of being the Head of GMFC Technical Committee which is the Higher Bench overseeing that the TB headed by Oktay has all it requires to deliver good results, I hereby propose to Head Coach Oktay this preferred Line-Up today as the First 11
    1. Peter Odhiambo
    2. Philemon Otieno
    3. Shafik Batambuze
    4. Joash Onyango
    5. Haroun Shakava
    6. Ernest Wendo
    7. George Blackberry
    8. Kenneth Muguna
    9. Jacques Tuyisenge
    0. Nicholas Kipkirui
    11.Francis Kahata
The same will be released to the media later after team briefing at 2pm. I have not forced the coach to play this line-up and he can as well disregard it wholesomely or in part. Should Oktay not go by my preferred line-up then today the Jasego fraudsters bandwagon can happily lynch me i give them permission. But as Head of the TC this is it and those players will line up in a traditional 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 depending on match dynamics. Thank you all and God Bless Mayienga

No media outlet has this priviledged information yet so the fraudsters can check all available sites to confirm the same. The day’s line-up will be released later after team briefing…

Head of the technical committee my foot?go tell that to the birds. As Gor fans we are all capable of second guessing the line up and of course throw in a disclaimer like you have done just incase the guess is inaccurate.@seville not all facts are proven logic, stop trying to use big words just for the sake as you try to justify what is already so obvious.it’s my prerogative to air what I feel as this is an open and public site.if it pains you so much like it has so many people here just don’t read, and better still don’t respond…I won’t change my mind, not for you or anyone and better still it doesn’t move me even one inch nor will it ever!!!

    • I think it’s wrong for an adult to throw tantrums on social media. I want to believe all of us here are adults

@Fred Odhiambo, I do not think you belong to this bloggers site. You have behaving like a jilted lover and you should look for somewhere else where you can throw your tantrums.

You are Jakoyo wearing a different name and you too should follow him where you all belong together.

Leave @Jasego alone and concentrate with your frustrations at a black Ingwe/panther no longer spotted Ingwe that has been sported somewhere in Abedare Mountains.

Boniface Omondi, Lawrence Juma, Sammy Onyango, Joachim Oluoch, Charles Momanyi and the toothless GK Fredrick Odhiambo were key members of that crack Wakulima squad that made history by effortlessly dismantling Sofapaka in Narok, last year. None of them has left K’Ogalo.

J’Asego you don’t have to prove anything. I remember you posted your proposed line up against Vihiga some 12 hours earlier. The media posted theirs some one hour to the match which was different from yours. At the end of the day the media got it wrong and it was your proposed line up that started that game.

  • Any one with an update on Oliech’s situation please gimme a heads up , if the update could come from the intellectually malnourished guy who doesnt want any
    reference to @Jasego
on this wall , I would b be extremely greatful coz ultimately all I need is authentic feedback .
On a sorrow note , I was having a discussion yesterday with a psychiatrist friend and I asked him of what is it that makes some people perpetually angry as to
Pathetically make unwarranted unprovoked attacks on people who are unaware and dont care about their sorry existence , his answer was that such people have a debilitating case of inferiority complex , are severely depressed and hence lash out at society as a form of ventillation .
Have you ever heard of a pedestrian hurling unprovoked insults at a motorist with the words”hawa watu ya magari wana kuanga na madharau” .-Well the advise from my friend was that the best response to such people is to ignore them as a form of sympathy , empathy and pity , am sorry I have digressed , all I need is an update on Oliech .

    I would be extremely
    greatful .
On a side note , I was talking to a psychiatrist friend yesterday on what it is that makes some people to be perpetually angry as to make unwarranted unprovoked attacks on
On a side note I was
    talking to my

Teddy what we have to put up with is an inconsequential gang of paediatric rascals who have congregated in this wall to actualize their juvenile fantasies.

@Teddy and BB Dennis Oliech resumed full training and makes the bench in today’s and Ssekisambu as the alternate strikers. He might get a nod at it and accrue some much needed minutes in readiness for NA Hussein Day match…

Fred odhiambo, who are you and what’s your mission, or you are among the frustrated lot who wonders when Gor mahia fc will lose against a Kenyan premier league side. We are very sorry because we will not relax before we go top of the league where we belong. Even when we will be on top, we will not rest before we take the league in May. Just continue challenging Jasego due to your frustrations .And Jasego, ignore anyone with negative comments and concentrate on your job. Am happy for the win and now let’s prepare for western stima that will take place on Wednesday. Kudos team K’ogalo for the win against a very good side in sofapaka fc. We keep matching to the summit where we belong.

@Michael Ogolo, i think the best thing that works well against such characters as @Fred is to ignore them. Commenting or responding to such, give them a sense of importance which raises their pride and ego.
