SoNy: Nzoka still our player

Sony Sugar maintains that Hugo Nzoka is still their player despite being heavily linked to Gor Mahia.

The striker played for Gor in a couple of friendlies over the December holidays and word going round had suggested he had signed as a Gor Mahia player.

Sony Sugar chairman Charles Odero refuted claims that Hugo had moved to Gor Mahia saying he has a contract till June 2012 and urged K’Ogalo to follow proper channels if they want the player.

“I am astonished by claims Hugo Nzoka has joined Gor Mahia but I was informed he played for them in some friendly matches in December.”

“Gor Mahia team manager Jolawi Obondo called me personally concerning Hugo but I told them to follow proper laid down channels if they wanted the player,” Odero told SuperSport.com.

“Hugo has a contract with Sony Sugar that runs upto June 2012 and as far as I know he is still our player unless we receive a proper offer for him,” he added.

Nzoka finished as the club’s top scorer with ten goals to his name in the 2011 season.

All Green Army fans demand to know who is in and who is out at Gor.

I hope soon clubs in Kenya, Gor included, will; start adhering to proper player transfer process. Its about time established clubs like Gor lead by example. There have been too many wrangles about player transfer the last 4 weeks, and almost always, involving the “Big Clubs”

What does Gor want to do with all this strikers? They want the Rwandese top striker, Hugo from Sony, Balletoli is there too, now Midenyo. Where do they want to take Lavasta, Makori, Selenge, Hajj etc. Something is not right in our camp. Is Awono Anaba involved in this recruitment exercise? I doubt. For God and my club Kogallo.

I think we should be replacing masika by signing more defenders and not signing more strikers. good observation Albert.I also dont think Awono is involved in the recruitment exercise.

Management should review all players contracts!
Identify two players for every postion and sign them to longterm contracts.
What are you going to do with all these strikers? They will all want playing time and if you dont play them, they will become disoriented, become unhappy and would want to move to other clubs.

  • Personally looking at our style of play i think Makori, Moses (rasta), kiplangat, kevin, kevo are more of wide forwards or winger while Hajji is more of a midfielder. Currently the strikers or center forward would be selenge, lavatsa and owiti. This i believe informs the reason for getting more strikers or if you like center forwards who can score goals just like Blackberry and Ngwa who were naturally strikers. Going by the signings i think Hugo, Balotelli, Midenyo are stikers and will give the coach more options upfront. The left back is full with wekesa, wyclif and now yusuf but for the right back there is a problem we only depend on Nasio. Food for thought guys.

kevin also plays well on the right defence as the day we played the last game against sofapaka nasio was away but kevin did a superb job

  • albert kasero you are dead right…..if we are pursuing meddie kagere then it is pointless to go for hugo from sony. meddie is a natural intelligent finisher, hugo is more of a target man , while the rest mose (rasta ) , midenyo, balotelli , lavatsa , makori, kiplangat , selenge are not simply up to the job in centre strikers role. they will either have to play or behind the centre striker or simply ‘kula the bench ‘.
i believe pursuing an extra stiker before the window closes is a very wise move.

It wil be sad if Awono and the technical bench are not involved on this tranfers.

  • There is no problem in pursuing as many players as long as the technical bench feel they need them. We are going to judge them by their results. Last season we had many strikers but like many teams in the league, very few goals.

Let the signings be guided by Awono and Odhiambo and then they make champions out of them.

My personal opinion though is that we need to offload Makori and Lavatsa who are very wasteful. Kiplagat pleases me with his efforts and can be excused.

The few games Awono was in charge also showed that he is likely to stick to his 1st eleven once he identifies it so Kogalo needs to make some money by selling all the players they don’t need now. There is no need of keeping 50 players on payroll and paying peanuts to all including stars whom AFC and others will snap up with ease. We are also likely to hear that Kogalo is broke after all these signings.

Makori is a very big asset to us. He need not be sold.

The recruitment so far done appears to have no blemish, but as brother Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch Kampala) has put it, I wish mzee Awono was seen to be overtly running the recruitment show.

  • The more strikers we have the merrier. Some of them will not deliver as per expectations and hence we will have a fall back. So long as we can pay them there is no problem. With school boys there is just how far we can go unless we are not serious about challenging for the CAF cup. I believe the tech team knows what they are doing. Why have a player who plays only 2 games in a season? Such should be loaned or sold to give way to regular players.

meanwhile GM officials still insist that Ezekiel Odera must stay at Gor Mahia. How many strikers is the club going to pay just to sit on the bench ?

Let Odera return to KCB as he wishes. He is a good player and Kogalo should not stifle his progress. Some players can succeed at GM. Some can only succeed elsewhere.

i dont know how some of us have come to the conclusion that anaba awono is not incharge of recruitment and ‘player shopping’.As a matter of fact, i havent heard mzee awono complaining that he has been sidlined in the players recruitment exercise.Lets not peddle rumours and malice.
It is also simplistic and the height of short sightedness to ‘claim’ that we have far too many strikers. As far as i know, the only out and out striker we had last season was lavatsa, and to a certain extent kip.So to add 2 or 3 more out and out striker, for me is not only welcome but very necessary. Also put in mind that we will be ‘fighting’ in about 4 fronts (africa, kpl, fkf, top 8).so as someone put it ‘the more the merrier’.So tuwacheni porojo na siasa ya pesa nane!

  • arrumtiddi your views are not from a sports analyst perspective, here are the facts !!!!….depending on the club , some coaches are involved in both management and recruitment and in some other clubs recruitment is left to the chief scout with the coach only involved in man management.anaba awono is head coach therefore it is rather obvious that someone else is doing the recruitment….can you remember he said he is not aware rama salim has been recruited by gor mahia ?
The issue of ‘too many strikers ‘ or ‘too few strikers’ is irrevelevant if you dont talk about the formation. Gor mahia usually plays 4-5-1 sometimes changing to 4-4-2 and rarely uses 4-3-3. if the coach is to try many formations, then we need central strikers with prroven goal scoring ability. if we are to stick to the 4-5-1 and buy so many player, then it is madness. the thinking behind recruitment is to allow you to adapt to many formations in light of the many comepetitions you are going to play within the year.

@jakoyo no18.the fact that mzee awono said he wasnt’ aware whether rama salim had been signed at that particular time, does not in itself mean that the coach was not ‘consulted’.he might have meant that he wasnt’ aware whether the paperworks and bureaucracy invovled in signing the player had materialised. As for the issue of more strikers being signed, maybe you didnt’ get my point,or maybe you were reacting to a different comment altogether, coz we are surely not on the same wavelength.
Guyz, lets criticize, for that will surely build our team, but let the criticism be positive.Lets’ separate constructive criticism from malice. We have a technical bench which i believe is up to task.Lets’ not usurp the role of the t/bench.Lets’ support mzee awono, ken, jolawi and all the rest.

  • @Jakoyo, please stop peddling rumours and lies on this site. We surely need strikers that can give us goals. The log is won by scoring and winning games and let us not comment on matters that we can not substantiate.

@arrumtiddi, you are sound and clear.

Bloggers please, lets us make postive and constructive criticisms, for that will surely build our our team. Let us stop commenting on rumours which are not taking us anywhere. We should know that we have a strong technical bench which is is doing perfect job so far and let us not usurp the role of the bench. Let us all support the techican bench members that comprises of Awono, Ken, Jolawi and others.

The team is currently doing a perfect job and with Jolawi there we are going to get good players.

I do not normally criticize fellow bloggers on this site but today one has cought my attention. Creative village you may not have been serious by saying Lavatsa and Makori be sold. Lets stop these kind of careless comments. If I were to sell all players, these two will be my last and still I would be very reluctant to release them. They are industious and committed and are a big asset to the team. Hugo should come at all costs. Forget the Rwandese, he wouldn’t come. One more clinical defender please, thats where I think we are now short.

@25-as much as Lavatsa is talented his heart has been in AFC.Only that Masika beat him to it.those who watched Gor matches will concurr that he lost some very open and obvious scoring chances but still managed to get excess playtime due to lack of alternatives in this position.the options we have now will ensure only loyal, committed and serious players get into the pitch for GM while those playing for Gor but hearts are elsewhere get to warm the bench or move.Let’s learn to call a spade a spade.
