Sports Registrar comes to Nyangi’s aid

Judith Nyangi, who had been eliminated from running in Gor Mahia’s August 8 elections, seems to have received a reprieve from the Sports Registrar. She will likely contest for the Treasurer seat against Dolfina Odhiambo.

Additional reporting from the Nation

Sports Registrar Rose Wasike appears to have provisionally cleared Gor Mahia’s outgoing organising secretary Judith ‘Nyangi’ Anyango to contest the treasurer’s post in the club’s forthcoming polls.

The Kenyan Premier League giants are in line to elect new officials on August 8, and club chairman Ambrose Rachier recently told Nairobi News the club’s new constitution prohibits any person without a university degree from contesting for any management position.

This rule automatically locks out Nyangi who has a diploma from vying, but then, the Registrar has, in a terse letter addressed to the club secretary, now emphasized that no one should be ‘unfairly blocked’ from contesting.

“This is to request you to submit documents relating to the appointed Independent Panel that will ensure holding of fair and transparent elections (which include) nomination of candidates without unfairly blocking any candidate from vying, adherence to the 2/3 gender rule, and non-discrimination,” Wasike said.

“The (election) exercise should not violate the Kenya Constitution 2010, the Sports Act, and the Sports Registrar regulations,” she added.

VIRTUAL ELECTIONS

The Registrar has also recommended the Institution of Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) to oversee the club’s virtual election even as she outlined the requirements for all contestants.

“Currently, the online voting system is only available for ICPAK which has been doing online elections. All vying candidates must get clearance from Government Intergirty clearance offices i.e the Credit Reference Bureau, Higher Educations Loans Board, Kenya Revenue Authority, Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, National Social Security Fund and National Hospital Insurance Fund, among others.

Rachier is so far unopposed for the chairmanship position, while Sally Bolo will tussle with Francis Wasuna for the vice-chairmanship.

Sam Ochola, who is eyeing the Secretary General position, is also unopposed, while Dolfina Onduto, Chrispine Okoth, and probably Nyangi will contest the treasurer’s position.

  • Is Dolfina diverting funds raised by Augmentin cater for players and TB’s welfare to campaign for the treasurer’s pos?

Ever since she manipulated herself in as a GMAF official, in April2020, the fund has stopped supporting players and TB yet it continues to receive contributions.
This and we are losing stars like Boniface Omondi due to salary issues.

More importantly she, like Nyangi, lacks the relevant qualifications and experience.
We shouldn’t risk Gor Mahia finances to trial & errors candidates.

    VOTE WISELY.

    • The registrar should stop meddling with club affairs. It is not their place to decide the qualifications of office bearers. Will they next tell clubs who qualifies to be on the bench or even the skill and experience needed to play? These are the same people who gave Angulu and Oporah a certificate showing that they are Chairman and Secretary General of Ingwe (even though they clearly lost the election). This is what messed up Ingwe for the last 5 years.

  • I have always believed that a good command of the English language is a pre requisite for admission into the school of journalism and a prerequisite for graduation on completion , but this article and its heading is convincing me that that is not necessarily the case .
Secondly , I have for the longest time believed that common sense can never be taught and that is why it is common-to everybody .
This article is based on the word “unfairly blocked ” , should that mean that e.g Mrs Wasike job as a Sports register that requires a degree as a minimum that all those who would have wished to become Sports registers but didnt have a degree were “unfairly blocked ” , or does it mean that all the men and women who wished to become Governors but didnt have a degree and hence could not contest were “unfairly blocked ” , One of my male friends would have wished to become a Women Rep. in the last elections but could not , was he also “unfairly blocked “.
Unfairly blocked by any and all definitions simply means that if you meet all the set criterias including having a degree alongside all the other criterias and then you are blocked , only then shall you have been unfairly blocked .
Laws are made for posterity and if one for
any reason whatsoever naively and emotionally believes that this bar was set that high to bar Nyangi and not to raise the leadership bar for Gor , now and into the future , then you need to be in a county ECD class .
An organisation’s constitution is the business of its membership and if in their wisdom they decided that a Birth certificate is the qualification for the chairman’s seat , then that would be it .
Otherwise its long since I was ambushed with an article this cheap.
