The Gor Mahia juggernaut just keeps rolling

Gor Mahia beat Tusker FC 1-0 at Moi stadium Kisumu on Sunday to maintain their unstoppable march towards a perfect season. The all important goal came via Michael Olunga. In the process, Olunga brought his goal tally to 17, only three behind the leader Jesse Were who failed to score today.

Tusker gave a good account of themselves, giving as much as they received. But it was Gor Mahia who had the first attempt on goal and it came via Collins Okoth. The Tusker duo of Jesse Were and Clifford Alwanga kept the Gor Mahia defence busy. In the 4th minute, Alwanga put Jesse Were through but the latter fluffed the chance with only Boniface Oluoch left between him and the goal. The two were at it 10 minutes later. Alwanga’s shot was parried by Boniface Oluoch. Were latched onto the rebound and passed to Alwanga who was then foiled at the last minute by Harun Shakava.

Gor Mahia came back much more composed in the second half. They routinely pressured the Tusker goal with George Odhiambo “Blackberry” proving to be a live-wire. Meddie Kagere’s shot in the 55th minute was parried by Martin Musalia in the Tusker goal. 10 minutes later, Blackberry put Kagere through but his effort struck the upright.

The pressure finally paid off in the 70th minute when Olunga picked up a cross from leading assist man Karim Nizigiyimana to score. Gor Mahia continued to pressure the Brewers with Kagere in particular proving to be a handful.

With the win, Gor Mahia have now ammased an incredible 72 points in 28 matches. Another win will see them equal the KPL record for points, held by SoNy Sugar which was set in a 18 team league. The next match is against Western Stima on Wednesday October 28, also at Moi Stadium.

Gor Mahia Starting XI: Bonface Oluoch (GK) 5. Musa Mohamed. 14. Karim Nizigiyimana. 25. George Odhiambo (Timothy Otieno, 80). 29. Innocent Wafula. 6. Collins Okoth. 18. Harun Shakava. 22. Meddie Kagere. 30. Ali Abondo (Ernest Wendo, 85). 19. Michael Olunga and 10. Khalid Aucho.

Frank Nuttal is an amazing coach. How he read the game and transformed the team in the second half is dumbfounding.

This defender Benard Odhiambo, really, how bad is he? When will this player ever be fielded? Even at times when the defense appears stretched out with injuries, it is midfielders like Eric Ochieng’, Wendo and Innocent Wafula that have to be repackaged and dispatched to the defense. How bad is this defender?

This was great perfomance. Now. Eng. Olunga target 4 more goals to bag the golden boot award. Kogallo need to sweep all the awards.

That was great and to me the greatest player on tat field is Wafula. Marking speedstars like Noah Wafula and Kago is something even established defenders find quite a handful. BB really made mincemeat of Atudo. I couldn’t believe the confidence with which he took on Atudo. All in all it was a great match with great results. Now let’s not underrate WS and Muhoroni. As said the pot usuall breaks at the door so let’s take care of it. CONGRATS BOYS AGAIN. As said we as fans need to do something for this team and on Sunday let’s not mess up the celebration. The players need to celebrate with their families just like they do in Europe

      MEANWHILE IN KISUMU

Sugar millers chairman Moses Adagala reveals to Goal that is a far cry from the Sh3.2m they bagged when they hosted Gor Mahia two months ago
Muhoroni Youth collected just a paltry Sh40, 000 by hosting AFC Leopards in Kisumu on Saturday.
This is a far cry from the Sh3.2million the club collected when they hosted Gor Mahia two months ago. Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala said they spent Sh160, 000 to prepare for the match. “It looks like the form of AFC Leopards is affecting attendance at their matches. We were expecting more money but we raised only Sh40, 000,” Adagala told Goal.
Muhoroni Youth will play Gor Mahia at the same venue this Sunday in what is expected to be a big pay day for the league champions as they are the hosts

  • My fellow Bloggers, I heard it from MR. BEN OLUOCH OKELLO JATUGO, (NO:9), that GOR MAHIA, WILL REMAIN IN KISUMU TILL SUNDAY WHEN THEY PLAY THEIR LAST MATCH AGAINST MUHURONI YOUTH? OR IS THERE ANY CHANGE? “I MAY BE WRONG BUT THAT’S HOW I HEARD IT” Meanwhile Olunga Mike can go passed JESSE WERE, if his fellow TEAM MATES, FEEDS HIM WITH GOOGD PASSES TO SCORE IN THE REMAINNING TWO MATCHES. KUDO’S BOYS! YOU ARE “HERO’S” OF THIS YEAR IN FOOTBALL FRATERNITY IN KENYA. THE REST WE LEFT GOD THE ALMIGHTY DO WONDERS!

GOR MAHIA SHOULD STAY IN KISUMU UNTIL NEXT WEEK…LET THE FINISH ALL THE MATCHES AND THEY COME TO NAIROBI SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A GRAND CELEBRATION.

AFTERALL, KISUMU STADIUM GENERATES MORE MONEY THAN NYAYO STADIUM.

THIS IS MY HUMBLE APPEAL TO MY DEAR COLLEAGUES ON THIS BLOG AS WELL AS THE EC…WHY SPEND MONEY SHUTTLING PLAYERS AROUND

Innocent Wafula should have known that as a player at one point his birth documents will be needed. He need to submit his documents like birth certificate, identity card, passport etc so that he can rejoin Harambee Stars

How about we have those celebrations at the more expansive nyayo stadium and invite fans from all over and put proper security in place and let the players enjoy their moment!!

I dearly support the kisumu idea but plz bloggers we need 10million on that day the best thing is to stage it at nyayo and request fans to travel in large numbers from upcountry and from coastal region. since this is not a derby n history making it will ideal to stage in Nairobi

I thought by now the EC would have already given us a comprehensive plan towards the trophy presentation so that we as fans can plan ourselves accordingly. ..
