Title march continues: Gor Mahia take on Mathare United
Gor Mahia’s march towards the 2017 Kenya Premier league continues this Saturday when they take on Mathare United. Gor Mahia now need only four points to win the league. And if Sofapaka and Homeboyz slip up again, then a win against Mathare could very well give them the title.
Mathare for their part are in 15th place and are desperately battling relegation. It is a dramatic change in fortunues for a team that won the Kenya Premier League in 2008. A team that penned one of the most lucrative sponsorship deals last year and was thus expected to challenge for the title. It is also a dramatic change in fortunes for coach Francis Kimanzi who as recently as 2012 was considered the best coach in Kenya.
Kimanzi and his team knows that Mathare cannot afford to slip up and must battle.
” It’s the big one this weekend. The lads are fired up for the Saturday clash against league leaders Gor Mahia. Interestingly, we are one of the three sides that have managed to beat K’Ogalo this season, the club exclaimed. Save for Wycliffe Kasaya and Roy Syamba, it’s a full house in training and the mood in camp is great ahead of the task ahead” said a post on the club’s social media pages.
The last encounter between these two sides was in April at Thika stadium. Mathare won 1-0. The goal was scored by Cliff Nyakeya, a former Gor Mahia youth player, assisted by Derrick Onyango, also a former Gor Mahia youth player. And this is another area where Mathare’s fortunes have changed. It is they who used to be a pipeline of talent with many former Mathare Youth players playing for clubs all over the country.
Dylan Kerr, the Gor Mahia coach, remains focused on winning all the remaining matches and he knows he will face a very determined side in Mathare United
“We all know, many teams aim at defeating us (Gor Mahia), and that makes it even harder for my players on the pitch. And with a few matches remaining, we have to stay focused, it is definitely going to be a tough assignment, and we are focused on giving our best and win.” he said to goal.com
On Thursday morning, Gor Mahia played a friendly against Ulinzi and won 4-2 with goals by Timothy Otieno, JB Mugiraneza, Mike Simiyu and Boniface Omondi. This according to team official Judith Nyangi.

What annoys some of the bloggers here are insults being continuously posted by both @Person and @Oduor12. These boys need to grow up from their childish postings. Who do they want to become the chairman? Do they know that we are not in electioneering period? Shame on them with their stupidity and idiotic behaviors.
It sounds good talking about which Sponsor is preferable to which sponsor but as a matter of belated urgency and priority , this is a secondary priority .
Before we bring out the sponsorship bowls , have we as a club exhausted the massive latent potential we have as a club , ofcourse not , for heavens sake , look at how even brands that are already known still intensely marketing , packaging and rebranding themselves , this includes but not limited to the firms we seek sponsorship from .
At a rudimentary level , Gor Mahia has the capacity to generate at a mimimum , not less than ksh 80m / year starting with non leaking gate collections and overt merchandisingspirit .
When u walk into a sponsorship negotiations with a negative bank balance , the weak hand u deal courtesy of your vulnerabilities will always result in signing contracts that r more beneficial to the sponsor than to the more needy entity and which like was with Tuzo , I suspect is the case with Spotspesa .
While guys worry about our readiness for the Caf tournament , going by what we are alreadyseeing , my most immediate worry is on the next one week or so to go when we will be champions with like 6matches to go . . Will the bonuses plus other benefits for the players and the bench still be paid . .I surely hope arrangements have been to that effect , but I shall remain worried .

Horoya fc a well known team/agemate to Gor has an academy and one of its players is in the U17 WC.My question;when will our academy be up and running
Notwithstanding the fact @ Moses , that Horoya is just but one of the many peers from West Africa that we used to clobber Left , Right and Centre and just to add that one West African who played against Gor Mahia and gave as a Bow , George Opong Weah went on to become the first and only African so far to win the Ballon d or and by all indications is about to be the President , not of Liberia Football Federation , but of the Peoples Republic of Liberia . . .Our peers are on a acceleration gear while we are not Neutral , just stepping on the accelerator , Generating Maximum noise but no movement .

Take this to the bank, Mugabe led bloated EC is not interested in CAF but would rather maintain the image of GMFC as an impovrished club that is forever dependant on personal bailouts/ patronage from certain officials/ personalities.HOW ELSE CAN THEY WIN THE NEXT ELECTION? That’s why this rubbish of unpaid winning bonuses continues yet EC expects TB & players to still win the next match. Don’t expect this incompetence to result into any meaningful CAF campaign. @ Jasego which players can you convince to join us under such conditions, only likes of J.Bapiste & Jausenge who need time to rediscover their lost form will be interested. Secondly,with a monthly salary of less than 150k you need real luck. Even Ker is already restless. Competition for GMFC resources by a vested EC overrides concentrating these limited resources solely on payment of essential,pertinent football expenses on time & as agreed. Local trophies will be the norm until after the “huge debts” are cleared or the “stadium is built”.
Ker should keenly follow the upcoming CECAFA tourney in Kenya to identify talent that will serve GMFC in next several years of CAF campaign especially strikers. Hopely guests Zimbabwe and other countries may have young talent that GMFC can afford now and put on 3/4 year contracts to serve us well as they develop at CAF level.
