Unstoppable march: Gor Mahia trounce Bandari 3-1
Gor Mahia’s unstoppable march towards the 2017 Kenya Premier continued unabated in Kisumu on Saturday when they hammered Bandari 3-1. The goals came via Francis Kahata, Meddie Kagere and Wellington Ochieng.

KISUMU, Kenya- Gor Biro Yaw Ne Yo (Gor is coming) boomed around Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday as K’Ogalo faithful savoured SportPesa Premier League (SPL) leaders Gor Mahia FC’s comprehensive 3-1 victory over Bandari FC.
Victory, a third in succession over the dockers, brought the record 15-time SPL title winners closer to the promised land of a 16th crown leaving the ecstatic Green Army to belt their full repertoire of tunes in praise of their beloved side.
Goals from Francis Kahata, red-hot Meddie Kagere and Wellington Ochieng’ is all Dylan Kerr’s charges required to complete a double over the struggling Bandari and move 11 points clear of second placed Kakamega Homeboyz FC.
Michael Apudo pulled one back for Bandari but it proved to be a mere consolation in the end.
Elsewhere, Western Stima FC and Nzoia Sugar FC played out to a barren draw.
In Kisumu, both sides came into this match on the back of contrasting fortunes; the hosts having picked back to back wins over champions Tusker FC and title rivals; Sofapaka FC to underline their credentials as the favourites to lift the trophy when the 2017 SPL is eventually done and dusted.
No respite
Bandari on the other hand were smarting from defeats to the brewers and Chemelil Sugar FC but found no respite in the steamroller that is Gor.
Eager to steady his ship, Ugandan Paul Nkata who masterminded the dethroning of Gor last season with Tusker, made three changes to his Bandari side.
Compatriot Andrew Waiswa was handed a defensive midfield role to provide cover to the back four while the attacking duo of Darius Msagha and Wilberforce Lugogo replaced Mohammed Siraj and Anthony Wambani.
His opposite number Kerr summoned the solid Wellington Ochieng’ to take up the place Karim Nizigiyimana at right back as he kept faith in the squad that slay Sofapaka in midweek.
As has been the norm at the Moi Stadium whenever K’Ogalo are in the mood, Gor started brightly, exchanging neat passes with the midfield trio of Kenneth Muguna, Ernest Wendo and Kahata dictating the pace early on.
Kahata thought he had handed his side an opportunity to grab an early lead when he was appended in the box by Waiswa but the centre referee, Moses Simiyu, waved away his appeals for a penalty.
Cautious not to concede early like the first leg when they found themselves trailing inside the opening quarter, courtesy of Innocent Wafula’s goal, the Dockers opted to soak in pressure.
Finally cracked
The experienced duo of Felly Mulumba and Noah Abich did well to thwart K’Ogalo but they finally cracked moments before the break when Kahata showed his class to notch the opener and send the Green Army to a frenzy.
If Kahata’s goal had soured Nkata’s mood heading to the half time, break then what transpired shortly after the restart left the Ugandan a frustrated man.
Mulumba played a dangerous back pass to Joseph Okoth with Kagere lurking and the Gor forward made him pay with a clever interception before slotting past Okoth to put Gor in control.
Staring at his fourth consecutive loss in the SPL, Nkata played his first card introducing Kelvin Omondi for Lugogo yet the storm never abated.
As if to justify his inclusion ahead of Nizigiyimana, Wellington planted a bullet header beyond the despairing dive of Okoth to settle the tie as a contest.
A late surge by Bandari saw them plant some respect on the score line with nine minutes to go. Michael Apudo arriving early in the box to tap in Shaban Kenga’s cross from close range.

Going forward, RUTHLESS is the word we need to instill in Kogallo dictionary…therefore my urgent appeal to legendary chairman aka almighty AR is the following…
1. please ugently invoke sportpesa to engage in contract renewal or if non committal, early terminate the sponsorship ASAP so that we start the process of negotiating with new sponsors before it is toooo little tooooo late in January
2.please scout for players to reinforce the club’s glaring weaknesses early – i.e strikers and wingers in the recently concluded WAFU in west africa, the upcoming CHAN in morroco and most importantly the uganda league…there are two strikers in uganda today that are the talk of the entire country..can somebody have a look at this two amazing boys ! Derrick Nsibambi and Shafiq Paul Mucureezi.

It is refreshing that some are finally asking the +10 year old AR administration very fundamental questions about very basic 1st year issues or structures, BUT WILL HE/EC EVER RESPOND OR ACT? I again advocate season tickets cum membership of kes. 3,250 for Russians & kes. 6,500 for center stand. 10,000 “russian” membership will raise kes.32.5M plus with 2,000 VIP giving kes.13M that’s a total of kes.45.5m. I repeat use GOMA LOTTO as an attraction to encourage membership cum season ticket uptake. The season ticket cum membership must be a long term project but there’s no better time to launch it then now when the club is winning. It is better than “harambees” as fans will be getting something (right to watch all home games) in exchange for their cash/contribution. SP should adopt GMFC as its flagship side in East Africa courtesy of winning the first SP Cup in TZ.

Relax Bandit. There may be great players out there but for the last few years we have had a great team. That’s the difference with Ingwe. They try to buy great players but Siang’as foundation was for a ‘TEAM’ and it has helped us alot. Teams win championships.

Did we know that by the time Gor Mahia legend John Bobby Ogolla joined Gor Mahia at the age of 18 , he already had 3years top level experience in the premier league courtesy of Kisumu hotstars fc that he joined while in Form 2 at Kisumu Technical High School .
The same would be said of John Okello Zangi , Hamisi Gedion , Hamisi Shamba , Anthony Ndolo , Tobias Ochola all from either Kisumu Boys /Day , Erick Omonge – Kisumu Blackstars-Luo Union , George Aartillery Odembo etc etc . . .Now its well and ok as a such term measure to identify players from yonder to fill gaps that we feel needs to be strengthened , my foundation of this article was to be a reminder that players we so seek , are indeed already with as but we long abandoned the system that long enabled as to identify and embed them , if we didnt , like it happened then , I would be able by now to identify a Gor potential 2018 by now .
Which then brings me to mu request to the current Kisumu Governor and indeed all the Nyanza governors , kisii included , to adopt a team like Akaranga did with the current NSL leaders Vihiga United , identify players all the way from form1-4 , embed them in the adopted teams and theiren shall we then have a reliable identifying and monitoring mechanisms with players we would as at then had some sort of contractual obligations to most importantly protect them from scavenging agents like we experience with Marcelo .
In a nutshell , its beyond my belief to accept what has been allowed to gain currency that Uganda has better quality players than kenya , that is an assertion that is not backed by any facts but rather is a product of escapism and laziness .
We as Gor Mahia must arise from the ashes and be a club that if we have to sell , sell only to the best of Europe and not to the likes of Sijui Simba , Yanga , Zesco in a situation akin to co Barca selling to West Bromwich Albion .
We have that potential and that ladies n gentlemen is the fact we must unbury our heads from the sand and confront , the question is , beyond the routine , Can We ?? ?

@Oduor 12, you sometimes amazes me. I think it is the same bloated EC members that finally pay all the outstanding allowances. The EC office has never gone public to solicit for funds from either the public or the fans to pay players’ outstanding allowances. A delay in paying allowances can sometimes happen but finally the payments will be made by the same bloated EC office.
Am not surprised because yours is a “token/handout” mentality. For you the kes.65M SP sponsorship is twisted to “personal” finances someone is favouring GMFC with. In addition when you say “never” either like the proverbial ostrich “you’ve stuck your head in the sand AGAIN” & forgotten about the paybill no.35XXXX or maybe you just don’t know the meaning of never. My considered view is that UG’s Cranes & KCCA’s performance on the continental scene is a sign of having better quality players & administration( structures) or both. The Gor Mahia I watched in Kisumu yesterday is a really strong team ..too strong for Kpl.
I decided to seat in Russia and the fanfare is still alive…new jo choir are doing their thing and the turnout was amazing…Gor is the unifying factor since time immemorial
Ulinzi has done us proud by falling to KK Homeboyz. That has reduced the workload by a win. So we need 3 wins and a draw and 2 losses out of the remaining 6 games in order to win the league, notwithstanding the wins registered by other teams. K-Sharks have ashamed me by allowing Thika United to beat them. Posta also registered their regular draws while Ingwe was beaten by Sofapaka as was expected.
I am sad that Ogwang’ fell to Sofapaka. I hope they will clinch GoTV for us.
As for the remaining matches, a loss should not appear anywhere in our vocabulary. Let us clinch the championship with 3 matches to go then we give the likes of Maqbul, Simiyu, Oliver Twist and Softie the remaining matches so that they can showcase their talent as they did in Dar.

Congrats team. I hope FKF/KPL and Nyamweya will resolve their issues so that we know our position on the table vis a vis other clubs. In other words do we remain with seven or eight games. Our points difference is what? Do we go with the 18 team table or the 16 team. Though barring a miracle the 16thcrown is in the bag we want all the confusion to stop. Personally after all the bruising battle for the 16 vs 18 and settling for the 18 we need to accept and move on

England last won the World Cup in 1966 and recently the U20(or was it U23). Has that changed the way we view their soccer? We still flock to watch EPL at the expense of all other leagues. I believe God has something for us in store. We waited for 18 years to win the league but are now winning it hands-on when we feel like. We even played against Roonie. Matano, Nkana, Nzoia etc are all saying they lost or admire the way Gor is run and the quality in it. Surely there must be something we are doing right. But that does not mean there are no things to improve. Agreed with you @Dan Original. We need to appreciate what we have achieved through the office of Ambrose Rachier. With the dwindling and tough economic conditions, our gate collections are not enough to run the club expenses. We thank Lord that Sportpesa is taking care of the salaries. Our match attendance has also gone down due to lack of stadiums in Nairobi and retrenchment associated with difficult economic conditions hence affecting our fans not to grace our home matches.

@ D.O you are right about England but the there is a small point you’ve missed.
England actually regularly go past the qualifying rounds and qualifies for the World Cup proper.
The quality of the EPL is also boosted by the higher quality foreign players which makes it that more attractive.
Even Kenyan is represented by Victor Wanyama.
As for our own stadium it should never take priority over players welfare / sweat.
Further more why not partner with the counties.
Once even half the counties build stadia, then there will be excess capacity,especially given the attendance of most other SPL clubs.
