Update on Julius Owino

K24 caught up with former Gor Mahia captain Julius Owino who explained what he has been up to. He says that all his plans came apart when he was dropped by Gor Mahia. he has since started various ventures like recycling, dog breeding and now runs a youth team in Kayole.

This is a cautionary tale for players who do not plan their post football activities. The case of Owino is especially egregious since he was 34 years old by the time his career ended which means he had over a decade to plan for his post football career.

Players know that football does not last forever and should therefore plan ahead.

  • THATS GOR MAHIA FOR YOU. THEY USE AND DUMP YOU! WHERE IS NASIO? I put it last year that we realy need an absorption system where we dont forget our legends.
I once met Awilo in some music store and I literally gave him all I had budgeted for the music.
    His story ran tears literally.
Back to the team, apart from Olunga, have we brought in another striker? for me I think all departments are well represented apart from a typical striker and a right winger. I stand to be corrected.

PLEASE PLEASE ADMIN! This are the list things to talk about. How many people get sacked or retire from their working place every day? Do they report to K24 and blame their employers?

How many players have played for Gor mahia since it was formed? Is Gor still assisting them?

If you don’t invest while in employment, don’t blame your employer unless he/she owes you your salary.

@ Papa if you watched our friendly with Bidco, the right wing was the best and very entertaining.

Guys, I think Dr. Obwaka and Dr. Shikanda amongst other players also played for Gor. I don’t think Gor assisted them to get their degrees and other professional qualifications. We also have Olunga pursuing his Geospatial degree. That tells you that the future of the players is in his own hands. The football life is quite short and the players have to get themselves life skills.
As far as I know the players train in the morning and are free in the afternoon. Instead of going to their ‘base’ to chew ‘Khat’ and ‘mogoka’ they should go to school or college

Guys, show some compassion. Not all the 5 fingers are equal. This is not the time to start blaming Awilo. Remember how you used to enjoy his runs. Dunia ni dwara so, just because he is down now does not mean he wont be up. Just because we are up now does not mean we can not be down. Show some love to this guy. It will send a positive message to prospective players. Where is Tony Anelka?

@PMawego we appreciate all that he did for us but the message is for the current players to learn that they need to keep something on the side for a rainy day. Our current footballers earn as much as any other employed professional.
All the same we are still available to assist Awilo

Thanks Dan original!! I hope this issue is taken up. Secondly, I hope players are not just taught about how to play football by scoring as many goals and not conceding. I hope someone is teaching them financial management, how to live healthy etc

As much as I don’t want to blame him,he should also stop dragging Gor’s name into his misfortunes everyday,we really feel angered by his utterances,he should instead find a life n move on.

Does K24 have some unfinished business with Gor? is Awilo the only former footballer who is suffering?

I think that we must come to a stage that football in our country is still at stage that requires support. The support that players can get and utilize very wisely is that it opens them up to the world with greater opportunity. I think it is also a bright idea if the EC can be inviting professionals in different fields to just come to talk about investments while stocks last. This will open them up to the world of competition and career. In this way the blame game will not arise.
