Wendo named player of the month

Defensive midfielder Ernest Wendo was voted the the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya player of the month for May 2017. Wendo was officially presented with the award at Gor Mahia’s training base at Camp Toyoyo Stadium in Nairobi yesterday.

Wendo’s role as defensive midfielder was seen as key in enabling Kogalo to record a superb record including beating rivals AFC Leopards 3-0, Chemelil 2-0, Nzoia Sugar 1-0, and a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers and Thika United in May.

Wendo received 23 votes ahead of Tusker FC custodian Duncan Ochieng (20 votes), third-placed Kepha Aswani of Nakumatt (19), and Ulinzi Stars’ Stephen Waruru (18).

The award comes with a cash prize of Ksh 100,000 plus a 45 inch TV as well as Ksh 50,000 to be shared among the remaining players.

Its an honor for Wendo to win this award ahead of other much more fancied players. Wendo is one of the most improved players of 2017. When he joined Kogalo in 2015 from Bidco FC, he had a torrid time getting any playing time ahead of players like Khalid Aucho and Collins Okoth. This year he has become one of the key players and a member of the national team.

AFC beats Thika very easily, a few days just after playing superbly against Gor Mahia. Muyoti is a former Leopards player and is the Thika coach, awuoro.

Well done, Wendo. Respect in football is about winning titles. Our beloved Gor Mahia is revered in the region and continentally because of its 3 CECAFA titles and the historic 1987 Mandela win. Paying player allowances takes priority over architectural plans. Even Jublee had to sort out unga, milk and sugar issues b4 hyping the SGR.Azam and even Barkowino Pri & Sec.Schools have stadiums but GMFC is the only club in East Africa to have won a continental title, that’s our claim to fame. Long story cut short Mugabe must pay players promptly for WINNING na hiyo sio matusi. His no/poor show on the continental soccer after 10 years as the longest ever chairman is something that can be wished away. This stadium project could be just another scheme to drain GMFC coffers, why not channel those resources towards winning another CAF title by paying allowances, by improving the team quality. Soon most counties will have stadia. I REPEAT PAY PLAYERS FIRST THEN BUILD THE STADIUM.

Kweli football has no manners. We struggle against Thika yet ingwe beats them easily. Now we hope we beat Tusker or if we draw then HomeBoys beats or draws against Sofapaka. So long as we keep the 9-ponts s difference then as remaining games approach zero then all is good for us. But the ideal thing is to widen the gap by beating the nearest opponents. That s beating Sofa, Ulinzi, K Sharks, Tusker, HomeBoys . No mean task by the way

Secondly my friend, Gor has never looked at any team or anybody for that matter to do it favours. We sweat it out and win outright, that is what we are and is what we are made of. We dont give a damn what other teams get, we will strive to beat them. Other tgeams will gang up against us, as you have seen, it is our duty to beat them.
