Who is Patrick Odhiambo?

Following the departure of long serving assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno, who departed to take over the head coaching position at KCB a number of names have been mentioned as potential replacements.

Most have been former players given Gor Mahia’s tradition of selecting former club players for the position. Among those mentioned are Bobby Ogolla, Sammy Omollo “Pamzo”, Tom Ogweno, Jerim Onyango and Frank Ouna, all of whom have coached at Gor Mahia in some capacity.

The name that now appears to have risen above the rest is SoNy Sugar coach Patrick Odhiambo.

“Patrick has impressed the panellists with his achievements at Sony with a fairly young squad. He stands a high chance of getting the job,” said a Gor Mahia official to the Nation.

Odhiambo led the Awendo based millers to an impressive 5th position in the 2018-2019 Kenya Premier League. He was voted SJAK coach of the month in July of 2018.

Prior to SoNy Sugar, he also coached at Muhoroni Youth and Chemelil Sugar.

Should be somebody who can always accept to be the interim coach whenever the headcoach is not there. Zico was good at this.

Simba are busy signing quality players in this transfer period in readiness for CAF championship yet in GOR is very silent and dead and CAF is soon approaching. The club hierarchy will soon begin to hurry in signing half backed players and not remitting their names to CAF in due time, we are closely monitoring the entire scenario as they unfold, Jasego we are at your door step.

True. Jasego Bwana. We are worried. Then Aduda will bring compromised commission giving players at the 11th hour. Lets not repeat the Jausenge saga again- when we had him but could not field him for CAF. Jasego what is in the kitchen?

CAF matches start in mid August so we need to do something very fast, but more important is to get it right. Simba and Yanga are already recruiting but for us even locally we have not done much. Let’s not repeat the Kipkirui, Oliech saga of last year. CAF now is more important for us.
I believe the CECAFA games will be good training/gelling session for the team

  • Been over the past week scouring the world football transfer stage , moreso in Europe and Africa and of all the hundreds of relevant clubs , Barcelona are yet to sign , Juventus are yet to sign , Man City are yet to sign , Bayern Munich are yet to sign , Liverpool are yet to sign , same to Chelsea , Tottenham , Espearance , Zemakek , TP Mazembe etc , only Real Madrid with Hazard have made a signing that the world took note of , In all this , the fans of all the mentioned teams are relaxed knowing behind the scenes , things are happening but the only deviation from this composure are fans of MANCHESTER UNITED AND GOR MAHIA who are screaming their lungs out , asking , nay , demanding , inpite of the window being only a few days old , to be told who has been signed , that “Time is running out ” , “that we are worried ” , “Ooh Jasego , say something “, “Ooh Jasego , why have you abandoned as in our hour of need ” ,”Jasego , WHY ? , WHY Jasego ” , ” Aduda dont dare ” , Waah , this house of ours is a very interesting house and that why I love it because amidst all this , you will hear accolades from rival teams and fans about how Gor for the last close to one decade , possess the suavest and shrewdest recruitment entity , a fact more appreciated by the outsiders than insiders , and a fact that can be further confirmed by the number of current and former Gor Players at Afcon , Egypt and if it may be helpful to the Thomases , that Gor Mahia (current plus present) is the most heavily represented in the tournament .
Be that as it may , a lot is going on behind the scenes and that is how it should and must be and can we please desist from mentioning Wazito’s name when discussing Gor Issues , they are nobodys , Leave discussing of Wazito to their peers who are battling amongst themselves behind us , let us discuss e.g who Espearance has signed , Tp mazembe , Mamelodi , K .Chiefs , Zemalek etc have signed , Please .

I agree@teddy.look at my last piece on recruitment. Just to summarize, I trust the organs behind the recruitment process. They have done well over the years. Let’s give them the benefit of doubt here.

  • Khalid Aucho , Walusimbi , Calabar , Musa, Nzigimana , Mustapha , Olunga , Kahata , Joash , Philemon -Those are the current plus Former Gor Players at Afcon , Egypt , the others like Kagere and Tuisenge are worthy of being at Afcon , the same goes for Teddy Akumu -In a nutshell , these are the products of our recruitment department , facts of which we have but because of the perpetual obsession of looking for something to worry us , anything , we choose to ignore , but whenever we choose to remember , we do it selectively by remembering only to the extent of Ssesikambu and Mustapha , a consequence of one of the unfortunate legacies the colonialist left us , one of which for example I might agree with you 95% but the emphasis of engagement would be on the 5% , a case in point being our EC , the most appreciated and respected by the outsiders but to whom the insiders consider as Lucifers and to whom all manner of choice insults are hurled for “having done nothing for the club apart from stealing the club’s money to buy homes in leafy surburbs and fuel guzzling machines” , as if there is money in Gor to even buy a house in Buru Buru .
    Guys , the transfer window opened 3DAYS AGO , 3DAYS!! .
Allow Jasego and his ilk space to work but moreso space to Breathe , although an ideal situation would have been having the recruits in place so that we use Cecafa to test their mettle and suitability but that aside , the most important thing is to get it right .

Francis Mustafa, Ssekisambu, Passenger 27, The Waiganjo Brazilian and Ze Maria’s Brazilian who was hired to play in friendly matches. George Midenyo, Crispin Odula, Patrick Oboya, Balotieno, The Nigerian Emmanuel Nwosu, Passenger 14…….these are just but examples of signings that did not go right…. and the club still had to pay them their salary.

Teddy Sofaset, I am a Bayern Munich fan. I am also a Barcelona fan and Real Madrid runs in my bloodstream. These are my teams and I know that however late they enter the transfer market, their enormous financial muscle will still enable them to get quality players. This reminds me of every time I get to Gikomba to buy soccer boots for my team. The prices of good quality boots always appreciate by the minute, but that does not stop the monied buyers. They still manage to get the boots at treble the price I bought mine, of the same quality, earlier at dawn.

These Gor Mahia fans are justifiably concerned. Since we don’t have the Bayern Munich kind of money, let us hit the market early when quality players are still affordable.

  • @Barefoot Bandit , on the premise of balance and the ideal , I totally agree 100% with you plus your examples but to the extent that you get some right and some wrong , sometimes not because a player is of a lesser quality but because life has its realities e.g is Man Us Sanchez a bad player , how about Barca’s Coutinho , how about El Haj Diouf or Balotelli at Liverpool or Fernando Torres at Chelsea , or Mohammad Salah season 1at Chelsea or DeBruyne season 1at Chelsea -those are examples of moneyed signings and whose signings didnt work out like the examples you gave and for a lot of reasons and dynamics , on the other hand I have seen some low budget players from relegated teams e.g Andy Robertson , Wijnaldum , Shakiri succeed , so basically its a question of smart signings e.g Man City’s and Liverpool for those who fit like a glove with how the team intends to play and not necessarily money , otherwise Mourinho spent close to $300m and ended up with a limping unbalanced squad not necessarily coz the players were a lesser quality .
But the summation of it all vis a vis Gor is that there must be a reason why for the last seven years we have prooved to be the best and getting better with each passing year .
So yes , there are many examples of when we didnt get it right and yes the same examples will be found in the biggest and richest clubs in the world .
Kaiser Chiefs bought our best left wingback only to realise that he didn’t fit in with their patterns and formations , does it mean Walusimbi was all of a sudden a poor quality , same to Aucho and etc etc .
Their is absolutely nothing to worry about , but again , maybe people were created differently and some are like Thomas in the bible , permanently on doubt and worry mode.
Lastly and personally , I dont consider Mustapha a bad player .

Then Sofapaka’s Moussa Omar putting in a very decent in the unfamiliar right back position. If Shakava gives in to Wazito’s millions he would be an upgrade at centre back

@musymo Omar is quite impressive and non would hesitate to pull a deal for the latter; however, I’d rather reserve the foreign slot for a midfield maestro or for a striker. I still have faith in our local talents whom I wish not to mention their names here… More focus ought to be on our midfield and attack….

  • Is there a way , any way , that this wannabee team that has been scouring Gor sites for clues as to who Gor intends to sign with the sole intention of mischief buying and who have signed Otanga and are believed to be in contact with Cercidy and Shakava , to , incase they manage to get the two , be rewarded with Francis Mustapha as a bonus , even if that would mean giving them a discount on the two .
Quantitatively , it would make economic sense for we would be eliminating a liability from our balance sheets , saving a lot of money and more importantly freeing up an extra foriegn slot .
For me , I dont see any difference between Mustapha and that Chinese who was selling used clothes in Gikomba and if its true that the Chinese was deported , then I dont see why the same should not apply to Mustapha .
