Williamson blames wasted chances

Coach Bobby Williamson has expressed his disappointment at his players for missing chance after chance during the 0-1 loss to Atletico of Burundi.

“We had enough chances to win the game but we never utilized them. I’m disappointed on my guys who reacted negatively after conceding the goal.” said Williamson to capital FM

Bobby also accused the players of lacking motivation.

“Players need to motivate and believe in themselves. If they don’t then it’s going to be a struggle to proceed to the quarters, but the team is in transition since it’s new with only four who won the league last season,” a disappointed Gor head coach, Bobby Williamson said after the match.

Even Atletico coach Cedric Kaze admitted that Gor Mahia were the better side.

We have improved from our first game since we defended and attacked at the same time, Gor were a better side in the first-half where they got chances but never utilized. I’m happy with my boys who made good use of the few chances they created and with that I have confidence we will win our remaining matches,” said Kaze.

Williamson made four changes from the squad that lost 2-1 to KCCA with Kennedy Opiyo replacing defender Godfrey Walusimbi who was sidelined due to illness as Bruno Charles benched Musa Mohammed at right back.

Joseph Kariuki and Simon Mburu were also drafted in place of Eric Ochieng and George ‘Black Berry’ Odhiambo.

Gor Mahia were indeed the better side especially in the first half. Were it not for good goalkeeping by Kandolo Akimana in the Atletico goal, Gor Mahia would have surged ahead.

Coach Williamson also hinted at a lack of cohesion due to the fact that the players have only been playing together for a short period.

“When you look at this team it is made up of only four players who won the league and it is more on a transition period. We shouldn’t have lost the first game neither we were supposed to do the same in this one.”

Indeed the constant player turnover that has plagued the club in 2014 has been a major culprit in the clubs faltering performance. However questions will be asked about Williamson’s decision to replace Musa Nassur with Kennedy Ayong as the latter had a torrid time trying to contain the Burundian wingers.

Gor Mahia are now the only team left in the group that has not won a game. They have two games left against APR and against Djibouti Telecom. Going on past performance, none of these games will be easy. Gor Mahia can still qualify for the next stage since three teams from the group qualify.

    As usual,same old story

  • The problem in Gor Mahia is not that the players don’t want to play, it’s because they are not quality players. The EC has not been able to pay players in time, the club has no transparency and that has killed the team spirit. As fans, we don’t know anything going on in the club. How can I contribute money for someone not telling me what my money is doing? How can I know that I am doing the right thing? Rachier and Omondi need to come out and answer what is happening

Like I keep saying, the EC is only interested in driving down the wage bill then blame it on the coach. They have succeeded in shipping out quality players and now very recently they have shipped out a very quality coach. Trouble ahead!! But let us keep our cool and try to retain the EPL which I still believe we will especially if Ingwe can do us a favour this weekend.

Our Situation will never improve if things remain this way. There is no transparency in Gor, especially the EC domain. What is the current status of the 350100? What happened to The Chase membership drive initiative, why did it die silently? And most importantly how far has the EC gone with the KRA issue since the EC is the author of this quagmire we are in?

Without the transparency you are talking about Mr. Abuya @2 we’ll never get anywhere.

Since EC are asleep, its up to the fans to save the club. During the mashemeji derby, fans donated Ksh 75,000 to pay players allowances which had not been paid.

Its hypocritical for some bloggers here to start demanding for transparency and accountability especially for 3500100 yet it is the same group who criticized myself,oduor12 the trailer and a few others when we said we will not contribute to that project unless there is accountability….which todate has been lacking from the EC to disastrous effect.

Now we have been vindicated. This current office, like others before it lacks transparency and accountability…no wonder we are financially on our knees with no end in sight.Good suggestions from some bloggers on this site on the way forward have been ignored and nothing is being done to change the situation. Its a pity!!!

  • williamson needs to fix things, we cant live with the same old story day in day out. i remember suggesting on this site for him to even blind fold the strikers in training to sharpen their accuracy. all is not well, infact i wish we could stay in rwanda forever for i am not so confident of the team as it stands, and how i wish us to retain the trophy.

Guys, this team is not for the EC alone. We are all stakeholders as fans, EC, TB and the players. Instead of whinning here about transparency and accountability why not us fans get organised like those who motivated the team after the Ingwe match. In that case we will be responsible for our accountability and then hope that the time for the current EC ends faster so that we can elect who we think amongst us can make the step change. Surely AR has done his best during this trying period and we should all appreciate that but we will now need someone to take us to the next level. That level will not be about winning the TPL but about being a better organized team, in terms of administration, finances, structures, accountability and information dessimination to the gor public.
For those doubting the team they will be surprised when we retain the TPL, however hard it seems to be. On another note I read that Shakava is being monitored by a SA club. How I wish he makes the move though the timing could be wrong.

And now Shakava is on sundowns fc from south Africa radar. They are watching him in Kigali. We may loose both Shakava and Calabar. What worries me is that they usually go for free.

And to make matters worse Rama didn’t make it in SA and is now a free agent but cannot feature for us since he didn’t sign. I wonder who their agents are. Couldn’t he have a contract with Gor (or any other team) stipulating that he be released once he gets a better offer. That’s what Kiongera had with KCB. Now he cannot feature when we need some experience in our team. Pole sana Rama. I hope the lesson has sunk

  • Rama has not and will never learn,he made the same mistake last time now he has done it again, the burkenges calling themselves managers are the people misleading these guys and they dont see coz they want quick money.

I have watched both matches and I have full confidence in the young talent at Kogallo. We lost yes, but the future to me is bright. Let us not put unnecessary pressure on the team. Honestly did we expect Gor to win Kagame cup this year after 18 year in the cold. I doubt whether yes is the answer. I am not worried about nothing. We just need to manage our expectations.
For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

With all these interests from our players can we still say that we don’t have good players? Even Timothy will soon leave. His potential is too much for the local league.
As @Kosero says we will make it but we need to exert just the right pressure on the team. Too much pressure causes breakages/damages!!!

Ombeng which Bandari? I thought we only have APR and Telecom of Djibouti, we are still in this and you cannot be talking of local Bandari game unless the team has withdrawn from CECAFA. I have faith in the team and I believe in what Kosero is saying.Lets not put too much pressure as our more understanding colleagues have said here above.

Jathur, lets forget CECAFA,The most important thing is retaining the league,i would rather we loose all the games in CECAFA tournament than see the league slip. And by the way,we must put pressure on both the players and EC.We have invested soo much in the club, emotionally, financially and even spiritually. The players should know that putting on that Gor jersey is a responsibility and they must equal to the task. They must know that we need results.

  • john Pesa Gor vice chairman in today standard newspaper has agreed with me that fees levied to Gor by Nairobi county for use of city stadium is exorbitant i.e kes 20,000 on hiring the stadium and 20% share on gate collection per game, this is what i said in my previous blogg. and i suggested Gor relocate to Kisumu stadium of which they can use the stadium free of charge.

Now that Gor is a bigger brand let Gor position herself to earn from these image by recruiting youngsters from western, nyanza and riftvalley also coast they give them long contract and pay them moderately and sell them higher to other club while doing this Gor will be self reliant, lets forget this habbit of getting players from TPL clubs they ask huge pecks n add financial constraints

Financial constraints should never contribute to bad results, ask yourself Gor junior team are paid tokens yet they ve remained unbeaten for 8 game they ve played.

Gor senior team are not playing to the instructions of the coach and most of them dont have objectives. thats is why they are taking much time to gain fitness.LOOK AT this BOY SHAKAVA WHEN HE CAME TO GOR HE SAID HIS OBJECTIVE IS TO SCORE 5 GOALS, TODATE HE HAS SCORED 4 GOALS, hence he is better than other Gor strikers and he has not let pride to consume him. thats why this South African club is scouting him and given his attitude of hard work he will go far.

we need to be told how many players has EC scouted from Kisumu boys and Kakamega High from just concluded secondary ball game or is EC on holiday.

John Pesa is complaining that not all money is collected as gate collection due to fraud, bribes to gatemen, fake tickets. Have been to stadiums but this happens in city stadium, here in city stadium there are no systems nor rules, police stays inside the stadium and wait to throw tier gas to fans. most fans with tickets cannot access the stadium due to commotion at the gates, if EC can instruct all policemen to stay outside and secure the fan entering the stadium then they will be fewer cases of cheat.

Agree with you Obwera,Nairobi county govt is milking us dry for no good reason,Kisumu would be ideal for us.The only players who give Gor 100% are about 3 or 4.Shakava,Sserunkuma,walusimbi and calabar.
