Williamson elated with win

Gor Mahia tactician Bobby Williamson was elated after his charges came from a goal down to beat hosts Ulinzi Stars 2-1 in an entertaining match played at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Williamson was impressed by the players’ resilience despite going down early as he heaped praise on their performance of his players who had been under pressure to impress their fans.

“I am very happy with today’s performance coming against all odds as we conceded early in the game. The players however proved their resilience as they fought tooth and nail to get the much needed equalizer in the tough match.”

“We are heading in the right direction and if we can continue with the same tempo then we have very good chances in the league but it is important we remain consistent in every game “Williamson told supersport.com.

Gor moved to third on the log table after the impressive win and will play Thika next weekend in the ongoing KPL Top 8 knockout match.

Ulinzi Chair urges Gor Mahia to control fans

Ulinzi Stars Chairperson Juma Mwinyikai has urged the Gor Mahia management to put measures to control the club’s fans during matches.

A section of Gor Mahia fans, estimated to be around 1500, arrived late at the match venue and forced their way into the stadium (without buying tickets) and in the process seriously injuring one of the ticket sellers as well as damaging the ticket-selling van belonging to Big Brother Ticketing firm.

While in the stadium, after Ulinzi Stars scored, a number of fans confronted the Ulinzi Stars chairman Juma Shee Mwinyikai, who had to leave at half time to prevent ugly scenes after directing army officers present not to engage the fans.

Measures

Speaking to futaa.com, Mwinyikai called on the Gor Mahia leadership to put up better measures to control their fans and noted that they will be waiting to see how the issue is dealt with, given that senior Kenyan Premier League (KPL) officials were present at the stadium and witnessed the occurrences.

-They threatened to cause a scene but we handled it well and I had to leave at half time to prevent a scuffle because it would not have augured well for me as the chairman to get involved. I think what they lack is leadership because no serious group can let that happen, Mwinyikai said,

-In Ulinzi Stars, if I spot our fan misbehaving I can tell him or her to stop it and they will listen. We are just waiting to see the reports from the game from the match commissioner and the top KPL officials who were at the stadium, he added.

Solutions

A meeting by the OCS Bondeni, Ulinzi Stars and the stadium management was held this morning (Monday) to seek solutions on how to handle future matches involving Gor Mahia matches at the stadium.

Our fans please behave…you are denting the image of the club.

I appeal to all our fans to police one another. This is the only way to get involved in this menace called thuggery or hooliganism. Let us police ourselves because the police and EC have failed us in controlling our unruly fans.

I don’t support misbehaviour by the fans but that does not mean whenever this happens then fingers should be pointed at Gor.The rules are clear and the last time I checked,it’s the duty of the host to ensure that there’s safety in and around the stadium. As a discplined force I believe the military is trained to deal with this hooligans. Honestly, how do you expect the EC to control grown ups that forced their way in Afraha stadium? So don’t jst blame or shift responsibility anyhow Mr Mwinyikai.I hope our hard earned pts will not be deducted when the said report is eventually presented by the ‘top kpl officials’ who were present at the stadium!!

Where r these guys who are always quick to attribute hooliganism to ‘ bhang – smoking ‘ Russia fans? Mwanyikai was harrassed at the VIP section. Or did the ‘ Human waste’ bribe their way into the VIP section with 50 bob. Some reality check for our elitist clique

HOOLIGAN, HOOLIGAN, HOOLIGAN, HOOLIGAN, what goes on in your mind when you cause chaos, insult innocent people and threaten security at all corners? WHY do you want to spoil a good thing? Unfortunately am sure Mr HOOLIGAN you do not read this site, EC please find an alternative means of reaching this character. WHY when things are so bad and the players are doing their all in the field and YOU MR HOOLIGAN, you want to spoil everything for them. MR HOOLIGAN do you see that we do not have a sponsor now because of YOU?

  • @Voice of the unknown. Why should we stop buying Tuzo. Kweli asante ya punda ni mateke. First it is an economic or personal decision to decide which brand to buy. Secondly, for 3 years they have helped you. Why don’t you show some appreciation? Does it mean you will only patronise the next sponsor for the period they will be on board. If that is true then you must kiss buy to any potential partner because it seems you are not appreciative.

Please jathur gi ji,do not DIGNIFY those hooligans by addressing them as Mr.
i do agree with Mwanyikai,we do lack leadership on this issue of hooliganism.I said here not long ago,our chairman belatedly added the fight against hooliganism in his campaign pledges after seeing his opponent Adede come out so strong against this vice.i could be wrong but i honestly don’t believe that mr.chairman is strongly committed to eradicate this vice.So far I have not heard what his plans are of taming this vice, despite all this signs.he is not pro-active,the best he will do when this hooligans strike is “he will deny that they are not GM fans.
I did suggest that he should organize a forum with all peace loving GM fans to discuss this issue and find the best way to deal with this thugs as a club.

We all abore hooliganism but I wonder why as a law enforcer Mwanyikali decided to do nothing about it by walking away. I believe he should have ‘secretly’ informed the other law enforcers who can easily track and pick these goons outside the stadium without raising any fraces. Shouting about hooliganism and doing nothing about it will not help us. And by the way how is the club supposed to stop this menace apart from advocating against it. We literally don’t have the capacity to stop is as a club but at individual levels we can. I have seen cases where these goons are stopped by the law-abiding fans from either destroying public property or harrasing inocent members of the public. When we encourage or keep silent when they are at it then they have this notion that we like what they do. Previously they used to harrass our female fans till they were told to mind their own businesses or come with their wives, sisters or daughters and this has since stopped.
So instead of blaming the EC or AR yet the goon is doing those things right under our noses we MUST take that initiative

  • Dan has hit the nail on the head. Both sets of fans sitting together is a recipe for chaos. It doesnt happen anywhere else in the world.Thank God Gor didnt lose that match.

  • Most guys here probably dont attend away matches or when they do so,they use private means. If u have been with Gor fans at jevanje, along landhies or uhuru highway,in Machakos,Nakuru and Mombasa, then u will knw how complex the issues of hooliganisms. It comes in many forms and shapes. How for example do u explain a grow up provoking the police in the streets of mombasa? The few bad elements are scattered everywhere, every hired bus, every corner of the stadium, every group celebrating. Is it genetic?

i beg to disagree with dan, that as a club we don’t have the capacity. This season i have seen an increase in number of the so called stewards manning our gates and wearing labeled bibs(easily identified) which i must say is very commendable. If the EC could sit down see in which ways the stewards could help the club in combating this vice,i can promise you this would be a huge step towards eradicating hooliganism.why do i say so-:
1.Stewards can easily identify & mark a hooligans hence able to bar him/her from attending future GM matches better than the police.
2.Hooligans would prefer to deal with one or two policemen, coz they can bribe them but they cannot do so with 50+ stewards who are present in every game.
3.An organized stewardship membership would awaken the club branches cause i believe the branches would love to have a say and in-turn identified hooligans would be unsettled right from mtaani.

the reason why our law enforcers would fair badly as suggested by dan in tracking & picking these goons is,they usually operate in shifts as in those who were here this wknd are not necessarily the ones that would be their next wknd and lets not also forget that some officers would care less if the team losses.I believe “club stewards” is the way to go,Any goon identified is sure to meet his identifiers at the stadium siyo watu wengine tofauti the best part is its HE & HE ALONE AS AN INDIVIDUAL THAT WOULD BE DEALT WITH.
