Williamson intent on scaling greater heights

Coach Bobby Williamson will be looking to post a better performance than the club did last year especially on the continental front. “That is what we are looking forward to; try and retain the league title, and do well in the Cups, especially on the continental front,” the Scot declared during a brief interview with kpl.co.ke.

Bobby also expressed confidence that the new signings would gel with the rest of the team. “We have tried to recruit both for quality and depth. This is considering the long season that awaits us. I am happy the players are getting to know each other and certain that we can post good results.”

Bobby also explained why he opted for low profile friendly matches. “This was good for the team,” Williamson stressed. “Id rather we start the season slowly and end with a bang, rather than take players through numerous high-stakes friendly games in pre-season, with risk of a burn-out when the games come thick and fast.”

Striker Rama Salim, who recently re-joined his former Gor Mahia side after a brief stint with Qatari side Al Makhiya says he is happy to be back.

“I am glad that Gor Mahia accepted me back and I am looking forward to giving a very good show. Gor has always been my home and I will always make sure I give my best when called upon to,” he said.

Rama was among the 26 players selected by the team to train for the upcoming CAF Champions League. Speaking of the task ahead, the player said that he is looking forward to the challenge, adding that it will help them sharpen their skill.

“International matches are always good for any team and I am sure we shall leave an impact in the tournament-We are just not going in to participate, we are going to win,” he said.

Kenya Power Charity cup is knockout tournament that will provide the best test for GM. I would prefer GOR, AFC,SOFAPAKA and THIKA or TUSKER to square it out.

Thus playing two high stake matches in a day will be the best option for pre-season preparation.

If Kogalo plays the Charity cup, the focus should be on new signings and maybe some U19 players. Let us see Kariuki, Kopany, Bataro, Shakava, Daniel Onyango, na wengineo.

Rama, you have always been a team player and I do admire the drive and gusto you bring in the new season. Agreed, we are approaching the Caf and Tpl to win, not to participate!! GM is a big name with the best history of soccer in the region, and this should be protected. @ Riaga, let the new leadership and the coach do their bit, these are professionals. Leadership is about creating an environment where people consistently perform to the best of their ability. The talent in the squad is diverse and I believe the leadership understand their fan-base desire!!

  • I think it is a bright idea to start slowly and build. This keeps the progression steady and objectively. It allows the players to gel towards high stake matches.
