Williamson praises defence

courtesy of futaa.com

Gor Mahia Head Coach Bobby Williamson singled out his defense as the department that played better in the team’s 2-0 win over Western Stima on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking after the match, the former Uganda Cranes said the team played much better and showed great character.

-We bounced back (from the huge loss to Esperance) perfectly. The team played better in general especially defensively, Williamson said after the match,

-We showed great improvement and I hope we maintain that, he added.

Defense

David Owino  partnered youngster Haron Shakava in central defense, former Western Stima defender Kevin Oluoch played at right-back while Ugandan Godfrey Walusimbi as usual was the preferred left-back.

U19 start on a bright note

Gor Mahia U19 side beat Makongeni Youth by a solitary goal in a Nairobi County League (NCL) match played at the Dandora Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Haji Achkobe scored the all-important goal in the 33rd minute to ensure the side marked its entry into the league with a victory.

In a Nairobi Provincial League (NPL) match played at the same venue, Kibera Blackstars beat Dandora AllStars 2-1.

Tony Nyangweso opened the lead in the 17th minute before Ghanaian Moses Quaye doubled the lead five minutes later. John Ringo pulled one back for AllStars in the 73rd minute.

Others

Kariobangi Sports beat Sunderland Samba FC 3-0 in a Nairobi Women’s Provincial League match while Mwiki Young Stars edged out Black Beaver FC by the same score line in a Nairobi District League match.

Am seeing Gor with a brighter future, but please as per my opinion, a lot is still needed to be done.Am notin Kenya and i rearly watch the ongoing matches but i would like to know about Abert kopany and Jared Obwoge. Gor is known for developing talents unlike AFC which goes for big names. I think we should develope these players by giving them chance to play otherwise we wont be able to know their abilities. For instace the new goal keeper is doing great, i watch him wen playing esperance, David Owino has become one of the best defender in the country and this has been achieved by exposing him to many matches, he used to be on bench!
    pls lets expose these players.

  • I hope there is a plan to ensure gor mahia under 19 players are eventually integrated into the senior squad.

In as much as we have good players in gor mahia, I would still want to see Michael olunga at gor Mahia some day, the boy has now scored 2 goals in four outings for thika united. This rate is better than most other youngsters in the Kenyan league…………

ja’ngwech@1….we have a squad of over 25 players and only 11 can play at a time. The players you have mentioned will be given their chance and it will be up to them to seize it and claim a permanent stake in the 1st eleven.
Besides,am a firm believer in never changing a winning team….so i would not for example bench ssere just because i need to give kopany a chance.Their time on the pitch will come on merit and it will be up to them to prove themselves then!

@oswozo moziek you are spot on. All the 25 registered players are good but the ones in 1st eleven are in better form at the moment. You do not change a winning team.

For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

  • @Voltage in the previous post, i understand you and your explanation is perfect but this “patia Sserenkuma ” narrative is demeaning . Kindly give us a better narrative

Kevin Oluoch(must work on his on-the -pitch stamina and ball timing) and Blackberry need our support.

Remember this Blackberry is the guy we idolized two or seasons ago.He is working hard in training and we hope his performance on the pitch will improve.I agrree with Oswozo and Kosero. In as much as I believe in a rotational policy for players,I think it would be dangerous and too early to start bringing in the greenhorns into competitive match such as the ones we currently have.we stand a very pivotal and advantageous point should we win all our matches up to 30/03/2014(when we play Bandari in Mombasa).remember last season when we hosted Tusker at City Stadium??the coach fielded a green horn-Angelo Okumu and………we lost te match.although I do not blame him for the loss,it partly contributed especially considering Matano fielded a superior squad comprising Gattuss,Abondo,Auch Khalid etc. we lost the midfield battle in less than 10mins from the start of match.

Otherwise, we look forward to an entertaining match on Wed and emerge with a remerkable victory.

  • I think any player in Gor must always attend training session & it is at training where a player can proove to the coach what he is capable of. Who knew Timonnah before Bobby introdused him. He took the little opportunity given to him by Bobby & since then he has always be the best.He even made Dube leave K’ogalo bcos Dube was not better than him. All players who come to gor r all good but every player must be better than the rest to be in the 1st 11. Obwoge was given his time but he has failed to score

  • Like you have pointed out, you can only be eleven on the pitch at any given time and we have only played 3 games. I also think that if you start changing players at every match, you may never get a first eleven per say. However, the fact we talk about some players that we do not see often shows that we think about the team in total. Otherwise for the sake of the good game, may we rally behind our K’Ogalo and also continue to make every effort to see that no trace of hooliganism is allowed. We want to introduce our children to the good game for the sake of continuity and growth in fan base. This can happen under non-threatening situations.
May we continue to ask for wisdom in all our moves. See you tomorrow at 3:00pm

i agree with jemoh kelvin did not play like he really wanted to make that position his,i think No.2 is Kogallo’s weak point,if we play against a team with a speedy winger itakuwa noma.Congratulations to the coach,he’s giving at least all the players a chance,He has tried berry on wings and now center but am afraid Berry is not taking his chances,as much as he needs our support,i think if he can be able to shed off the ‘star’ mentality & embrace a winning mentality just like Oboya he will do well

@Sylvester my apologies if its offensive. Basically what i meant was If the other players up their game and start scoring like what Daddy did, the pressure will be off Sserenkumas shoulder. Indeed i can bet he will score more goals as the element of unpredictability will be there. The opponents will not be sure of who to mark anymore.

Gor mahia has never welcomed all the recruited players if you have been keen ,some of them must be a flop and are just taking one season then they are being released and the kevin guy might be one of them.I never liked the guy body language in the pitch he was reluctant even when he is supposed to pass the ball to other players to some extent was even controlling the ball for the opponents.Otherwise it is time to encourage but not criticize, but the likes of kevin has to know that this is gor mahia and the pressure is always there and you have to perform.

The coach is right to point out the strong departments. Wl motivate thm to work hard. About Kevin Oluoch I still think he needs to build his confidence n speed. On Sunday he let the ball bounce in his area on several occasions n tht cn b suicidal wn playing against a winger like Were P or Oyoo( Tusker) . I hd pointed ths out bt Oduor12 ws nt amused abt tht. Maybe my language was nt diplomatic bt the lad needs more work on his techniques. The coach prefers him ahead of Musa of late n tht tells about his potential. Let him toughen up n prove himself.

  • No @ Simplicity 2 me there was nothing wrong with ua opinion on Juma & Kevin however strongly/crudely put. As u’ve clarified, according 2 you,the lad needs 2 improve his technique. So what surprised me was ua tirade against those of us who thought that BW as head of the technical bench needed 2 improve his tactical approach 2 games.
As Dan Orig. would say the lad must be doing something right in training 2 mek it 2 the 1st eleven.
If we r willing 2 give “old”Jerim chances y not “young” KO. …

    Reply
  • But that is what I anticipate D. Orig.’s position to be. Mine would be that KO, BW & even EC should……………….. coz this is Mighty Gor Mahia we expect the best structures hence results.
As for the youth team though I still have reservations (eg if the players r aged 19 how many can really mke the cut 2 the senior team given that GM standards are very high isn’t this a costly affair). We r also recruiting regionally nowadays.
That said would luv 2 see the lads curtain raising 4 GM seniors.
