Williamson says match should have been postponed

Coach Bobby Williamson has contended that the Shield match against GFC 105 should have been posted given the sheer number of players away on international duty.

“The game should have been cancelled we were forced to play the match without with our players out for international duty. Rule is when you got players out on national duty , you cancel a match”, he said to futaa.com

Indeed Gor Mahia were missing the Ugandan duo of Walusimbi and Kizito as well as goalkeeper Jerim Onyango and David Owino.

He also lamented the ineligibility of Timothy Otieno. “We couldn’t use the player (Timothy Otieno). We initially knew he was cap tied only to be informed that he is eligible to play very late when he was back in Nairobi” said Williamson to futaa.com

However it must be said that even without these players, Gor Mahia should have been able to beat GFC. They were replaced by high calibre players. And it was anti-climatic given that Gor Mahia were returning to Kisumu which is historically their spiritual homeground after years of anticipation. And the team had been flown there. Morale should have been high.

Nevertheless Gor Mahia dominated possession. It was the missed chances that let them down as well as the fact that GFC parked the bus quite effectively.  Thousands of Gor fans thronged the venue with some atop the terrace wing and hundreds on the dump-site heap outside the stadium to watch the game.

Let’s not be cry babies. we lost to a more determined team. We thought it was going to be a walk in the park but it wasn’t. My concern is that any player in gor, be they a regular or the fringe players, they are supposed to be better technically than the second division team. That means that with or without the five players on national duty we should not struggle against these teams. But from the results we can now appreciate the work rate of Kizito/Owino/Walusimbi/Jerry and Danny. Some non-national teams are also good but we need to play every game like it’s our last game. The TB is doing it’s best with the resources they have

Did Gor Mahia officials request for match postponement in writing or at worst verbally? Gor Mahia officials are entirely to blame. They did not ask for postponement knowing very well jerim, Walusimbi, Kizito and Owino were out on duty for their respective national teams. The officials slept on the job.

This things happen. Not long ago Wigan defied all odds to beat big teams to win FA cup despite being relegated at the end of that season. It is not a abnormal therefore for GFC 105 to beat Kogallo. In any case this is the nature of knockout tournaments. There is no crisis in Kogallo. I am not worried about nothing. Kuvunjika kwa mwiko siyo mwisho wa kupika ugali.

As Albert Kosero has said, but you have to reckon that Wigan even if it was relegated it’s a battle hardened Premier League regular campaigner. Had Gor been beaten by say Karaturi,Congo United, Mahakama it could have been understandable. Not that Gor can’t be beaten, but they are being beaten stupidly.

to be fair the game should have been postponed but the administration didn’t lobby harder. So, it’s their fault
All in all Gor should have enough depth to see off a 2nd tier team. And should be marketing it’s NT players instead of playing concurrently with AFCON qualifiers. Kenyan football needs to fix up.

  • Bobby “Soclari” Williamson should stop SCOLARIZING US.
Mara Esperance is financially superior, mara referee should have added 10 more minutes against “Thicker” Utd, mara the match against a div 2/3 GFC should have been postponed.
Ask yourself why should a team of GFC’s calibre take GMFC to a penalty shootout.
Remember our preseason struggles against likes of Mumbi FC. Our Head coach is no better than us bloggers driven by emotion and ever ready to read to much from “fluke” 1-0 victories eked out against the likes of “Bottom fries”.

BW has the whole of East & Central Africa to get players so I don’t see why we allegedly have “unteachable” players with poor technical skills.
Remember the story of one Logarusic/Rodriguez story.

That said given the lack of sponsorship/KRA debacle how sure are we that these players’ allowances are up to date.As usual EC remains opaque on this issue. If this is the case that then we’ve no RIGHT demanding anything from the players.
BW is not entirely to blame EC’s adminstrative blunders have played a major role. We lost Mapunda, Rama, Dan “Flava”, Mosoti,Akumu to lesser extent Ade, Wanyonyi, Njunguna without being replaced by players of similar calibre.
Like the Brazilian fans, GMFC fans turn out in large numbers to watch “yuora nena/ patia Sserenkuma” football.
BTW how much is BW paid and is it worth it?
If he can’t win CECAFA then I say he should just go since however good he was things are not working out for him @ Mighty K’galo.
To EC/sychophants GMFC is not an football academy always forever “GELLING”.

@ODUOR 12 UR SPOT ON. BW CAN NOT BE EXEMPTED AT ALL .THE BACK STARTS AND STOPS WITH HIM. DID HE FLUKE THE WIN AGAINST “BOTTOM FRY”.Just Asking?.. Am worried about nothing until we meet “EFUSI”and BW registers his usual anticipated derby record of being periodically whipped left, right and centre. IJOGA MA..,!!!

Guys, guys go slow on BW. I agree that the buck must stop somewhere and in this latest debacle it stops with BW. Why? Because he is the man at the helm and he failed to offer advise to both EC and his playing unit accordingly. He should have taken stock of our previous records every time the team took a local flight and advised the EC against airlifting the boys to Kisumu.

Recall how we played against Congo United in 2010/11 president’s cup in Mombasa? Then, Facebook branch had airlifted the boys in appreciation of some exquisite performance by the team that season. What happened? The team played badly: BB missed a penalty, Julius Owino the captain was red carded and we lost to CU on penalties. Then came the “Ferrari airlift” against Bandari early this season. We lost…and now the Kisumu airlift.

My point is that some of these lads get jaded and cannot shake off the effect by the time they take to the pitch. Does anyone remember your first experience with an elevator? The boys are not quacks. It is the airlift.

BW cannot continue identifying with K’Ogalo partially. It is high time that he immersed himself fully and avoided his business-like approach. Embracing K’Ogalo culture means being hungry for a win and vanquishing the opposition. It means understanding the historical, cultural and emotional significance of playing in Kisumu. May I ask: would the team have lost to that kalongo-longo team if it was Sir Bobby rateng woud Ogolla or Gedion Ochieng’ or even Zico in command? I don’t think so. That is where embracing the GM culture comes in. BW only needs to add some extra thirst into the team to win. He needs to fire the boys to be hungry for a win always. To me he has emerged as the tactician who sees the opposing coach sharpening daggers to slay GM, but instead of doing the same, he tells his team: “look here boys, this is just another game, you win some and you lose some”.

If we blame our loss in Kisumu to the absence of 4 players, then we should not have won the cup in Khartoum in 1985, when the entire first 11 plus coach was banned by CAF, not to forget the pressure from Efusi to CAF to ban the players for life! This is why embracing the team culture fully matters most.

I must finish by saying that our players are not to blame and even TB and EC are not to blame either. If anything, we all need to commend the EC for the good job they are doing. Ask yourself how a team in the red can afford to keep those players quiet without noise over unsettled this or unsettled that; or how they can still afford to airlift a whole team in KQ?

As for the players, I assure you they are not quacks. Now I understand why the bible says that everything works for the good of those who love God. God knew that one day a K’Ogalo fan and blogger would think of putting GM players in the 3rd class of a train and send them back to Nairobi so he made the train service to collapse in order to prevent such an incident. He also knew that that fan would lock GM players in prison the West African style if they lost a match so he made sure that that fan does not become a military head of state.

If my memory serves me right, Len Julians, one of the best foreign coaches Gor has ever engaged, had a very poor record against AFC Leopards during his reign. This did not stop Gor from achieving. The league is not about beating only Gor. Some of us are being very unfair to the coach. You cannot win all the 9 matches out of 18 so far played through luck. I refuse to agree.

Gor was not clinical enough. GFC were well organised i commend them for giving Gor a good much. sometimes its good to have such matches for the coach to understand the depth of the squad he has. lets take positives from the match. i also appreciate the fans who attended the much. even though Gor lost, the kept cool and left the stadium peacefully.

Ooh Laa la…!! “CALL A SPADE A SPADE AND NOT A BIG SPOON”

@Comrade Kosero are you trying to re-write your own story about one LEN JULIANS to justify head coach BW incompetence and mediocre performance against minnows or what?

    Is not the same BW who was chest thumping after fluking his win against “BOTTOM FRY” minus the said players and he even had the audacity to face the press with the comment below;

“We took a gamble to allow this match to go on since we did not have majority of our first eleven players but it paid off and I have just realized that we have many options to pick from.

“The young lads gave a good account of themselves in this match and they have shown that they have what it takes to feature at this level,” Williamson told Goal.

Which LEN JULIAN @ Comrade Kosero are you referring to? The one i know had a superb record be it local, regional or continental to the extent that GOR MAHIA was a real football powerhouse. That is why his tenure still remains as our past glory of “GOLDEN ERA”. Please re-read Barefoot Bandit post above and underline this phrase:

“BW cannot continue identifying with K’Ogalo partially. It is high time that he immersed himself fully and avoided his business-like approach. Embracing K’Ogalo culture means being hungry for a win and vanquishing the opposition”

“then we should not have won the cup in Khartoum in 1985, when the entire first 11 plus coach was banned by CAF, not to forget the pressure from Efusi to CAF to ban the players for life! This is why embracing the team culture fully matters most”.

BW SHOULD STYLE-UP AND WAKE UP TO THE REALITY THAT HE BETTER SHAPE-UP OR HE WILL BE SHIPPED-OUT SINCE WE ARE WORRIED ABOUT NOTHING. “COACHES COME AND GO”..PERIOD..!!!

@OGANGO TRAILER, facts will remain facts. Len Julians as a coach had poor record against AFC Leopards. Yes Kogallo won Khartoum finals against them, but head to head, AFC had an upper hand during Julians tenure. There is no history being re-written here. I am simply referring history.
BW stated very clearly that he took a gamble against Bottom Fry. Unfortunately the gamble did not work against GFC 105. What is so wrong with that. At least he is being honest. Let us accept that GFC beat us and move on. Lets not lose focus, we soldier on.

The comments of of OGANGO and ODUOR 12 are what is ailing Ingwe upto now. That a team gets beaten in one match and the coach must go. Is Gor at the top of the league by chance or they earned those points? We have to appreciate that even with our meagre resources we are still able to fight out with the best. We should also remember that during the tenure of Jack Johnson and Les Julians the players were not pros and were all comfortable finacially working for the various parastatals and ministries. Currently not a single player in Gor is not looking for a chance to go to SA, Oman or the Scandinavian countries to make the bucks. For this reason our team will always be a makeshift with no ten year experience in players like before.
I still insist that despite the ‘mistakes’ and errors of judgement from the EC they have scored above 60%. For some of us making noise can they tell us when they last sent money to the paybill number?
I support @Kosero for his level-headedness. We cannot build a team by being activists, just waiting for something to go wrong and then start blaming everyone. The loss at Kisumu should even be a blessing for the team. Looking at our benchpower the fewer games we have the better for the top 15 or so players. And by the way how does this identifying with K’Ogalo help the current professional players win the games. These players can play for gor today, Tusker tomorrow and the following day for Ingwe without feeling anything. Days of tribal loyalty is long gone. Pinches our former player denied us the shiled last year and life went on.

From where i seat i think BW is just a “GAMBLER” and true to his own words; this time round he got it very wrong where it mattered most, against the unexpected and “weakest” opponent in all competitions and quite adversely it happened in “KISUMU” [the very traditional home ground of K’Ogalo] and lastly during the official inauguration ceremony for the second artificial turf after “TOK KOMWANDA” by FIFA goal project.

    PERFORMANCE RATING:
    1. EC [7 points out of 10] Airlifting the team TO & FROM.
    2. TB [3 points out 10] Lack of strategy, focus and game
    plan.
    3. PLAYERS [4 points out 10] Stage-fright,docile and awesome.
Getting jaded laded after 45 minutes
    4. FANS [9 points out of 10]Loyal and peaceful despite the
    unexpected result.KEEP IT POSITIVE.

I,re watch the match keenly and noted that well played well.GFc had 8 players in defence and this made it difficult for Kopany, oboya and opiyo to score and all of them still lack match fitness.SSemazi and Mburu could have started the game.Collins was tied and this over worked Erick. We lost fairly and i accepted defeat. Our TB has not worked on knock out tournament.I noted that gfc was packing the bus and only wait for counter.

@ Comrade Dan Original with all due respect please be informed that you are entitled to your own opinion just like any other blogger on this forum.

But having said that you should know that you are neither a member of the TB,Playing unit nor EC and henceforth you should with immediate effect desist from “GAGGING” people whenever they have some divergent view from yours. Or are you the EC/Sycophant ODUOR 12 was referring to?

We are simply demanding for consistency and not “A FLASH IN THE PAN” kind of performance. You seem to be so much preoccupied with AFC misfortune to the extent that you are confusing OGANGO TRAILER with the busy bodies of EFUSI on this site. Why do you dwell subjects instead of being objective. You have reminded me ofone OLOO ARINGO and Mtukufu rais…………………… the rest is history.

@ Dan Original are you the custodian of Gor Mahia paybill number? And by the way i only engaged @ Kosero because we two have a long history and deeper understanding of this CLUB based on FACTS and FIGURES and i can not understand where you coming from on this particular issue at stake of the former and late LEN JULIANS[R.I.P] Vs current BW.
