Williamson upbeat on prospects in Gabon

Gor Mahia started off their campaign in Champions League on a positive note with a well earned 1-0 win over Gabonese side US Bitam at Nyayo Stadium

Gor Mahia tactician Bobby Williamson remains hopeful that the team will play attacking football in Gabon when they face US Bitam in the return leg of Caf Champions League on Saturday.

Gor Mahia started off their campaign in the lucrative competition on a positive note with a well earned 1-0 win over their Gabonese opponents at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

“We should have scored more goals because that was our target. To be sincere, 1-0 is very tight but the most important thing is that we never conceded a goal. It was our strategy from onset to ensure we do not concede a goal and we did exactly that,” Williamson told Goal.

The Scottish however, insists K’Ogalo will not be going to Gabon to defend the slim advantage but will try and score at least a goal to boost their chances.

“Of course they will open up the game knowing they must score. It will be a blessing for us because we are also going there to score. Hopefully we can keep the clean sheet as well and if we score first then pressure will be on them.”

This year, the return legs of Caf competitions will not be played after a fortnight as has been the norm owing to the World Cup and Gor Mahia have less than three days to sharpen up before they travel to Gabon.

Praise

Asked about new signing Haron Shakava, Bobby said “He is displaying a pleasing performance on the pitch,. -He has the composure when having the ball. Despite his age he did his best in the game which is good for him and for the club.” said Bobby  to futaa.com

The best way to defend is to attack from the word go. Once they think of scoring an early goal then definitely they will be vulnerable if we use the most speedy wingers and lethal suppliers like innocent Mutiso and shaman Kenga in counter-attacking.

Bobby must tweak the team and listen to what fans are saying as regards the likes of BB, Rama and Kizito who are good but not up to the task. Try the obwoges ,ERICO,ONYANGO and even kopany who can offend and defend with equal strength. What will win the match is nothing other than the right strategy. The boys should be prepared for an explosive 90 plus 15 added minutes . BITAM is very much bearable in defending but will open in attack.

Please Bobby don’t be intimidated by big names. It’s high time Obwoge or Kopany start upfront with Sserenkuma. Please consider Eric Ochieng/Dan Onyango in place of Kizito.Anyway thats just my opinion.

BW Is one man ever satisfied even with a 3-1 loss. This man is so blunt and inept, tactless and dull…Bure kabisa! You cannot compare th e present GM and even Ingwe, leave alone the last season squad. At the end, April is near and BW should start packing if he doesnt improve

  • Sir Bobby ‘ u r the coach & u know who is best at what position @ what match. Do not let anyone intimidate u. U r a professional coach & u dont field players bcos they r your friends but bcos they respond to what u train them to do. your work is to train & we as fans we can only comment but decision is yours.Field whomever u think can give u results but not who we as fans want. Since US Bitam parked the bus when they came to Kenya, it will be intriguing to see what they can do when they open up their game. I think GM will score more goals in Libreville.

Its amazing that some GM fans would rather go watch Arsenal instead of watching GM play in a continental match.

Whereas Arsenal is guaranteed to be on TV every week, you never know the next time you might have a chance to watch GM in continental football. It is not guaranteed. This is not the 1980s.

Eeeeeh! Gentlemen cease fire please! We are all fans and supporters of GM so, let’s halt calling each other names please and learn to accept each other. BW is a professional coach let’s give him the chance and see what he can do. What we write here might hurt someone’s feeling but won’t alter the mind of the coach remember he said he doesn’t read news papers i doubt it if he even read these comments. Waduaro kwe kende!!
