Gor Mahia & AFC want night ban lifted

courtesy of goal.com

Both clubs have appealed to Kenya Premier League to intervene and have the ban done away with because it has significantly affected revenues

The country’s top clubs Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards’ have began feeling the impact of a ban on night matches announced last year by Football Kenya Federation.

The clubs now want the ban lifted to stall a fall in gate revenues which is already beginning to affect them. AFC Leopards’ Secretary General George Aladwa says the ban on night matches has seen a dwindling number of supporters.

“Nowadays, our fans don’t have time to turn up for matches especially those that are held in mid-week. We want this ban to be lifted because it is affecting our revenues,” Aladwa told Goal.

Gor Mahia Secretary General Chris Omondi says the ban has significantly affected their revenues which they rely on for running the club. “It is even worse when we have to host our home matches in mid-weeks. It affects our revenue collections significantly.”

Before the ban came into effect, night matches were so popular with local fans despite the 7pm kick-off time. Kenyan Premier League Chief Executive Jack Oguda says he is aware of concerns raised by the two clubs and are considering appealing against it.

“Our clubs are being affected and have approached us to intervene. We will soon lodge an appeal with FKF because we do not want them to continue suffering.”

The night ban was effected by FKF following terror related cases that have locked the country.

Williamson: We must drop “crisis” tag

courtesy of goal.com

K’Ogalo tactician refuses to let his head drop in the wake of defeat to Bandari FC insisting they must remain strong as they try to return to winning ways

Coach Bobby Williamson has urged his charges to shut out the ‘crisis calling’ critics and be strong as they try to wrestle back initiative in the title race.

Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Bandari – only their second of the season – has left Gor Mahia four points behind league leaders Tusker FC and, inevitably, their title prospects have now been written off in some quarters.

But Williamson refuses to let his head drop in the wake of Sunday’s result. “I think we have to be positive,” said the Scott. “It is very easy to say we lost to Bandari and let our heads go down. We have to be strong, be together more than ever and do our best until the end of the season,” he told Gor Mahia GOAL.

“We have been playing well and creating our chances too in the games but we have only been unlucky to score. Anyone who has been watching the games can attest to that. Of course we are concerned about it and are working hard to improve on our conversion rates.

“Our supporters should be calm. We are not in any form of crisis and there is no cause for alarm. It’s about what we believe up until the end of the season. People are not going to play for us and it is up to us to show what we can do and we must do our talking on the pitch.”

After tight action month, Gor Mahia will have a week long break with no action coming next weekend and Williamson believes the time will help rest some tired legs. Gor Mahia will face KCB on Wednesday (April 9) at City Stadium.

“We have been highly engaged in many games since the season started and getting the break will be good to allow some our the players rest. We will also be able to asses the ones returning from injury before our match on Wednesday.”

I like the optimism of BW, thats the right attitude. It appears admin allowed the acrimonious and snide exchanges in the last post to make this thing come out and they have. Now we wait for action and reaction.

Unfortunately some of us do not have this raw ground information. At least now we know. So,soberly then HOW,HOW,HOW…. just how did it get to this state. Where will this lead us to, the great scandal, and management and TB are burrying their heads in the sand, gooosh.Encouraging this unfortunate sibling rivalry and self destructing rebellion? They might canibalize one another until there is nothing remaining of the team. I am choking feeling much like vomiting …aaaargh thooooo!!!! After all that sacrifice as fans,I am out of here….!!!Until I will see proper corrective action…am on my way, OUT.

i read the previous blog and i couldn’t help but notice that it was very heated and generally full of emotions!
Am not sure if all that was said is true….or false but i think as stakeholders in this club, someone owes us an explanation sooner rather than later!!

The issue is not losing but how & by how much we are losing. Not to mention to whom we are losing.
Tired legs come on coach, this is game number what? Not even a quarter of the games for the season TPL,TOP 8, GOTV, CECAFA
In the midst of all the crisis you are not helping but as you keep sticking your in the sand and saying that there’s no crisis WHAT THEN IS THE PROBLEM & HOW LONG B4 YOU FIX IT ANOTHER 18 YEARS?

It’s gud to be optimistic in the midst of adversity .But there’s a crisis BW . A serious one as a matter of fact.Leaving in denial does not help at all.The only way to drop the ‘crisis tag’ as u put it,is reining in discpline in your squad and getting gud results. Losing a match does’nt amount to a crisis, but the manner and to whom we are droping pts is a concern to all stakeholders.I hope the TB and EC will act on this.

From some of out blogs looks like we need to understand the role of the coach and the TM. Unlike the EPL where the manager is the overall leader in KPL we have the TM dealing in admin issues as the coach dealing with technical issues of the game. Some teams even have a Technical Director who in some cases acts like a scout for the club. Do asking BW to sort out why one player is not a friend to the other player or telling the other player to drop juju could be asking too much. Since we have structures why can’t we ask our branch chairmen to raise this issues officially with the EC?
One thing I am sure is that if we were winning however ugly we would all be celebrating and praising all arms of the team.
On night matches let them come back since we tend to lose revenue with the 3pm weekday matches. If rugby is still played under floodlights why not footy?

Yes night matches should come back. On ur internal squables no comment since @ Ingwe we have a bigger problem with some of our leaders being more in politics than in football, really sad!

  • BW is too soft to discipline some of this players therefore it gives them an ideal ground to influence other players output in the field. How do we expect TM to deal with admin issues yet he‘s the one catalysing players with nonsence,he failed to check documents of a certain player making him fail to play? .BW just leave in denial but the moment results will not go your way that‘s when you will realise how Gor fans are unpredictable coz your excuses are now monotonus .

Take it easy guys our EC is on top of things. Yesterday our SG visited the team at their training ground and he had some lengthy discussion with the TM, JBO and the four players that have been adversely mentioned in the previous blog.

And to my surprise i have bought a copy of the NAIROBI NEWS and bumped on this story that “Gor to kick out TB”.

Only BW will be retained as the head coch but JBO,OUNA & IDDI are on their out due to incompetence and sabotage. Whether true or false i don’t know. Is our HOUSE really on fire?

@Bill Wabz is it true that Efusi has landed an Italian coach and relegated Nandwa to deputize him. Kweli AFC & GOR..Mmmmmh

  • @Jabilo, your post says ‘take it easy’ but ends up causing more uneasiness with the Nairobi News story.

I don’t know if i’m the only one who feels the sporting media is always biased on their reporting of our club. If you look at the stories they choose to highlight, it’s about creating crisis after another. They would wish to gain readership with juicy reports that are neither here nor there. They always manage to cause problems for AFC like the ‘Italian Coach Story’ and i fear this season it will be Kogalo to suffer.

At the beginning of the season they created an impression that ‘Zico’ was to be hired. Then they went overboard with Situmbeko deal. Then it was our sponsorship rumors. Then players go slow. They exploited the loss to ‘Bottom Fry’ to create an impression that we were finished. We didn’t do ourselves any favour with Tusker or Bandari. We are finished they said. Next it was the Ugandan and Kenyan Axis in the team. They wrote that we won’t be allowed at Nyayo or Kasarani. Now TB to be fired.

You now know what to expect next. Mainstream media has become reckless like tabloids and bloggers. It is Nation that reported about the unconfirmed Bamburi deal.

My advice to BW is to work on his team and let us see results on the pitch. No excuses, no trying to justify losses. No burying heads in the sand. If there is interference, please shout loud and save your job.

@ jabilo it is true and i can confirm to bloggers here that those guys are going, they don’t help the coach at all and instead they are the ones who are sabotaging the coach.it has grown to the extend that goal keeper trainer can also nowadays talk and influence players in gor mahia.when i said it here yesterday that it is some of sianga group of players who are sabotaging the team plus some members of technical bench led by the team captain some bloggers said here that they were here say. These group of players consist of JERRY(Ring leader),DADDY AND OBOYA,others will be known as time goes.A gain i said here last week that if these gor mahia players are to go this way it will go to the extend of them demanding the signing fee of their fellow players to other clubs, know yesterday it was again the issue of some players are paid more than others which should not exist at all,the issue of someone salary depends on how individual bargain when renewing his contract and not to come to the press to demand on more salary and you are the one who was not smart when bargaining.Bob williamson must be aggressive and investigate this issue there is something boiling in the team and he should not allow three or four players to pollute the whole team.Sec general please do away with three first then players bringing division in the team should follow the suit immediately, there are many clubs in kenya where they can play.

@Jack Omollo, I am in total agreement with your posting. Salary and remunerations depends on how you bargain with your employer. Players who are sulking that so and so players are being paid more salaries should just blame themselves on their poor negotiation skills.

I have never seen anywhere in the world where employees want to chop off hands that feed them. This is really unacceptable and if they want go, let them go to wherever they want. Gor Mahia is bigger than all of us including the players. Once said by late Omino that coaches come and go. This is the same with players as they come and go.

Why do you players sabotage where you derive your daily bread?

Discipline is paramount everywhere and this is the ingredient for success. Fans pay for the matches to watch matches but not sideshows, indiscipline players, poor results etc.

gor problems are not about weekday matches. do not shift the blame.
two bad things exist at chez gor.
    1. hooliganism
this has everything to do with gor finances. ofcourse security will be blamed but what security measures do we see during weekend matches that can deter a terrorist.unless peace prevails in gor matches, the crowds will continue to dwindle and no sponsor will come on board. note that good reputation is not built after one match.
    2. poor form
playing on wednesday or saturday will not make gor win matches if the ‘mombasa match’ was anything to go by. lousy football will not bring money. gor work rate is poor and it is true that the gor problem lies with the luo players. the ugandan players have demonstrated a very good work rate. luo players obviously feel this is ‘their club’ and will now take their frustrations out on the ugandans. but just like typical africans, burning the house has always been the best option.
Bobby is not the the type of coach who will tell you off… i do not blame him either. but someone in gor needs to ‘do a Logarusic’ and read the riot act to these players. it is also a shame that the club sec. can now try to blame dwindling gor finances on weekend matches.
closing off, i was totally dismayed to see admin, on a previous article blame gor finances on the sale of ‘fake adidas’ jerseys.how you connected the two is a work of wonder. is this the kind of ineptitude at gor?

@8,if what you have read is true, then that would be very sad news for “BW MUST GO,INDIRECT CRUSADERS”,they have called him all sort of names, clueless, soft, tactless coach, sleeping on the job coach and of late a coach living in denial.Am sure if the coach were to involve himself with club “dome’s” as they suggest they would be the first to turn around and say that he should do his job and not interfere with Tm’s job.
To these guys whatever the coach does or says is not good enough and it has now extended to the team as whole.Amazingly they never mention who is that coach that is full of tact so that we can compare the two.
So if its true BW would be the one remaining,i fore see a lots of undermining, sabotage and lack of unity in the team .The best scenario would be to engage the entire TB in a candid talk and try resolve the matter amicably, cause sacking would only make the situation worse for now,the supposedly sacked officials have their supporters in EC,common GM supporters, some bloggers and even some players and am sure they will go to any length to ensure that those who will remain will not succeed.

  • Yes players do their own bargaining but GM should have a proper salary structure. Soccer being a team sport you can’t encourage wide ranging disparities.
All this is a repeat of the Indiscipline in Zico’s days.
4 ua info. @ Dan Original.the pecking order in the TB is head coach, assistant coach, TM then GK trainer. Am double sure BW’s can overrule anything Ouna does. Problem is EC where AR’s vote is equal 2 Amina’s. 6 years & AR still running the biggest club in Kenya like a KIOSK. USELESS

@levelmind there is nothing like candid talk here there are some guys here on the technical bench in fact all the three guys behind the coach does not help the coach at all,if ouna is the one leaking for the players what is going on in the board room which is bringing all these wrangles in the team whom do you expect to talk to him candidly….?How did these players know the salary of each other if it is not Ouna since he was involved in the negotiation as TM.The guy is the one escalating these issues since some of the so called players are even earning more than him. Then there is another one called goalkeeper trainer ,yester year the guy was involved in transaction of players saga and was even suspended and everyone saw that when mapunda was acting as a goal keeper trainer it is the same guy who is giving jerry a position within the sticks even if he is not fit just for the sake of sabotaging the team.Bobby ogolla is another fellow with i don’t care attitude and has divided the team in to groupings and this can be confirmed. Please you have to know that without the pressure from the fans with the current chairman that we have gor can go no where,it is this pressure we are pilling that is making gor mahia a successful club.To the guys who are denying that it was rumors that zico was coming back to gor,you have to know it that the guy was being brought back by AR,But due to pressure he got from the fans he could not do it.so when fans are pressurizing the officials let them do so for the betterment of the club.

‘Private and confidential”, then that person must take responsibility and resign. There is no way round it. When you are leading a group you must always know that they are all at different levels, good ethics must be upheld.Salary is usually very personal.

  • the problem in gormahia stems from he structure of the club and the the managers of the club ,EC they are thugs in a sheep’s cloths how on earth is it that gor raises 1million per month, while recently against bandari the amount was over one million, thieving from the officials makes very one feeling its free for all from ouna to the players to kilo and rachier they are calpable , liverpool lost ther perenial sponsor calsberg due to the turmoil they gor into sponsors want to brand with the product you offer but if there is signs that you depend on them, like we did with tuzo they pull out for the merchandize you are providing is un stable our main sources ,, the gate collection and sales are bogged , the current system of running my nice club is out dated kindly cant the branches call for a national dialogue on ways of making our team proper organizations ,electing these thieves wont change a thing we in the diaspora would help with ideas and material support f not we will still have the uncouth jerries and his brigade as well a mute coach
