Ze Maria unperturbed by 5 point deficit

Unlike the past three years when Gor Mahia has found itself at the top of the league by the halfway mark, the club is now 5 points adrift of league leaders Tusker. Gor Mahia have dropped four points in the last two games. Had they collected maximum points against Ushuru, they would be only one point adrift. Nevertheless, coach Ze Maria is confident that with 12 matches to go, Gor Mahia can overhaul Tusker.

“We have 12 games to play. Five points is nothing. When I arrived here, Gor Mahia were behind with seven points but at the end of the first leg, we were on same points with Tusker. So, all is not lost. We still have time and will fight,” ‘Ze Maria’ told Capital Sport.

Gor Mahia’s midfield has been particularly sub par of late due to the departure of Khalid Aucho and the absence of Collins Okoth Gattuso due to disciplinary issues and and Geoffrey Walusimbi due to injury.

Walusimbi getting back in shape

Dependable Ugandan wingback / midfielder Geoffrey Walusimbi is working himself back into playing shape after he sustained injuries in a traffic accident. Reports say he was a passenger in a motorbike going to training when the motorbike was involved in a collision. He sustained serious injuries and has taken time off to heal. He returned to training this past week.

“Well, I have been training alone trying to ensure my body gets into the right shape before I get back to full training. I was involved in an accident a few weeks ago as we were preparing to face Tusker in KPL Top 8 competition and only a few people knew of it. “Right now I feel okay and my main aim is to work harder and get into the first team. Hopefully next week I will be training fully and who knows, I might be involved depending with the coach’s assessment and needs.” Walusimbi told goal.com.

  • Yes Ze Maria, 5 points is not a worry. Let us fight for all available points and not depend on the outcomes of other games. Let us pray that other frontrunners falter. No complacency and not being content to draw because other teams are drawing. And why can’t the coach and Gatusso make up so he can come back to the fold? The team needs him now more than ever. Good luck against City Stars.

On the contrary…he should be very worried. With the way we are playing and Tusker seemingly doing well,it should be a cause for concern !!

  • Pole sana to Walusimbi, wish you quick recovery.

Gattuso has a serous problem. Why should he always be involved in indiscipline issues with every coach? Discipline is a must in any institution.

K’ ogallo! one match at a time.

    God bless K’ ogallo

So are we going to ask all coaches to be patient with the discipline issues of a particular player? Why not the player adopting to the coaches?

      • @Danico, players must respect the coach as he is accountable for team selection and perfomance. With Gatusso’s track record, I suspect he is the guilty party here. Also it is not the first time because if I recall well, about two or three matches into Ze Maria’s reign he had to freeze Gatusso out for some time till he apologised. He had similar run ins with Nutall too. The team needs him now and my wish was that they sort it out if it is not unforgivable so he can be available for Sunday.

Looks like this time Gatusso’s relapse came so soon after the last reported episode.

Every footballer has a resident maggot in his brain. However, that is not the problem because in most cases the maggot is in a state of hibernation. A hibernating maggot does not announce its presence through some overt antisocial, rebellious or defiant behaviour displayed by the maggot’s host (the footballer). The maggot’s hibernation period varies from footballer to footballer.

The maggot only becomes a concern when it starts roaming within the brain. As it roams its movement creates seismic waves which disturb the pressure equilibrium within the space in the head which contains the brain. Medics would call this space ‘the cranial cavity’ and the pressure within it, ‘the intracranial pressure’. Movement of the maggot raises the intracranial pressure and medics tell us that some of the symptoms of raised intracranial pressure are headache, restlessness, irritability, poor judgment and irrational decision-making. The polite medical diagnosis for ‘maggot roaming in the brain’ is SOL (space-occupying lesion).

This therefore explains the behaviour we see in the likes of Paul Gasgoine, Stefan Effenberg, Benni McCarthy, Edmundo, Paul Ince, Andy Carroll, Dennis Oliech, Jamal Mohammed, Robert Ssentongo, Collins Okoth Gatusso, Khalid Aucho, Kepha Aswani, Paul Were, etc, etc. It also explains why we don’t see that rebellious attitude in some players. However, we should not celebrate over those ‘good players’ because it is only that their maggot’s hibernation period happens to be very long. Remember that Mount Pinatubo stayed dormant for 600 years before producing a vicious and devastating volcanic eruption.

How do we help the ‘trouble’ players? Don’t blame the maggot and therefore don’t attempt to remove the maggot. The human brain is its natural habitat so it must remain there. Besides, it is practically impossible to remove the maggot unless one is ready to be incarcerated for manslaughter. Solution is periodical administration of “yadh afita’ so that the footballer sneezes after sniffing the medicine. The sneezing helps reduce the intracranial pressure thereby making the player rational and mentally stable. Subsequently, a state of calm is restored. Take note that sneezing DOES NOT remove the maggot. Let us therefore identify a renowned jafito to help Gatusso. It is true that midfield needs his tenacity and experience.

          • Hahaha….quite hilarious. @BB is this maggot epidemic a preserve of footballlers or does it afflict other mortals too?

        • l did mention here that something was not adding up and now it has been confirmed. We were told that Gatusso had injuries yet it’s indiscipline issues. To EC fast track the issue of ITC for Odipo so that he can be fielded Asap otherwise l see Gor being surprised by a minor team very soon.

          • Or maybe mtu haja lipwa kitu? That usually activates the “maggots” not only in footballers but many others as well. As Okewkanango would say there is a lot of “head weighing / measurements” by Gor ofis these days.

  • How did a player playing for Gor found himself using a motorbike?

    • @Okeyo, peng nyale. Maybe he was late and needed to avoid the jam. Anyway that was unfortunate what befell Walusimbi and quick recovery to him.

So are we saying that he should have hired a motorbike to practice. Let’s be real. Motorbike is the norm for most Kenyans at that level

    • Omera, remember there was the “airtickets issue”, then now leg and internal injuries that nobody “knew” not even the club’s medics and top officials e.g Ngala & Jolawi.Am more inclined to believe Jasego on this. Btw as per futaa.com fringe players GK Okinda, Calabar Jnr and Omino are also injured. Yawa, could these injures be “financial” and not physical by bloated EC e.g unrefunded airtickets, signing fees ni swali tu yani just thinking aloud. Anyway I wish our injured players a quick recovery from their “injuries”. P.S I really feel Ze Maria surely all these side issues are due to lack of admin. structures na hiyo sio job ya coach.

Like i said training/friendlies and competitive matches are worlds apart Don’t think coz you strung 15 odd passes in training your opponent in a competitive match is gona roll over and allow you to do the same

  • Kenya u17 were thrashed by Zambia four nil. Really where is the kenya football heading to? Immediately after FKF election, I predicted that we as a country we are heading nowhere with the new team at FKF. If Mwendwa can’t implement the basic ides in football, where are we going to succeed? Not all 42 tribes in the country can play football as football in kenya is dominated by the people from Kavirondo and some from coast region.

Why tribalising football? This Mwendwa the soprano boy thinks that he knows everything in football.

    • Whether they like it or not, footballers are mainly from Nyanza and Western Province. Wacha Kenya ichapwe hata 20. Tribalism will finish this great nation. Bure kabisa.
