Rama Salim

This weeks man of the moment is Rama salim

Date of Birth: March 20, 1993
Previous Club Congo United
Position: Midfielder/Striker
Years Active 2012 – Present

Rama Salim first came to prominence while playing for Congo United during the 2011 season. During that season, he scored with a spectacular free-kick for Congo United to give them a famous win over Gor Mahia at the City stadium. After the 2011 season, virtually all the top teams in Kenya sought Rama’s signature: Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Tusker, Sofapaka and Thika United. It was Kogalo who managed to secure his services for the 2012 season amid pomp and circumstance as Gor Mahia signed several other players perceived as superstars. These included Nigerian Felix “Felixinho” Nwosu, Yusuf Juma who had been highly rated, Ibrahim Kitawi who was returning to the club and Anthony “Balotieno” who was highly touted after he shredded the Gor Mahia defence during a friendly match in Kisumu. However the hype that surrounded these players failed to pan out as Gor Mahia started the 2012 season in disastrous fashion. The only new signing who lived up to the hype was Rama Salim. Indeed Rama initially failed to secure regular playing time under Camerounian coach Ababa Awono. Many feared he would soon leave the club.

When coach Logarusic arrived in 2012, he immediately identified Rama as one of the players who could best fit into his system. “I realized Rama has the ability to run in the space and use it, that’s the reason why I started playing with one player behind the two strikers” said Logarusic. In 2012, Rama went on to score 12 league goals, finishing among the league’s leading scorers. He was also called up the national team. At Gor Mahia, Rama has featured mostly as a striker, though there have been calls by fans to play him in midfield where he was highly effective for Congo Boys. However his forwardline combination with Dan Sserunkuma proved highly effective and was one of the primary factors that lifted Gor Mahia from relegation candidates to second place. Rama’s greatest strengths are his ability to beat defenders one on one and his composure in front of goal which enables him to find the back of the net often.

In 2013, Rama Salim attended trials in Finland and in the United Arab Emirates. The trials did not pan out and Rama returned to Kogalo for the 2013 season, much to the relief of Gor Mahia fans. As of July 19 2013, he is the club’s joint leading scorer.

Rama should be the playmaker aka number 10. I am not sure why Loga insisted on playing him as a striker.

@ 2 Joe riaga, the coach knew why he used him as a striker and that is what has made him to be what he is now. With that he managed to score 12 goals and made many assists that resulted goals. When players are formed this way, not to be stuck in one play position, realy boost their chances in trials abroad. There they meet very stiff competion with other players. Look at how David Owino has been formed, he can play in any position and score goals. This is what most kenyan players lack versatility.

@ 1, why do u think that the so called legends will manage Gor Better than Gor Mahia fans like the current Chairman Ambros Rachier and other fans.Remember Rachier was elected when Gor was under the threat of colapsing. He worked hard and resurected Gor when those u call Legends were just quiet. Now that Gor has taken his rightful place, u think its only the Legends who can lift Gor to great hights. which club do you think is doing better with the leadership of Legends.VOTE AMBROSS RACHIER FOR CHAIRMAN .

@ 4 you have spoken the truth. Being a club legend does not guarantee leadership quality.

I can assure bloggers that Rama does very well during Ramadhan period, so watch this player and if given a chance remind me on the goals scored at the end of the period.

well done to rama and may other strikers follow in his steps and give me us fans reasons to jump at the stadium.
